Being treated as a meat robot? Getting bothered by journalists and rubbernecks on the street? Being constantly burdened with sky-high expectations? That's just . . . normal and expected, especially from a superior or an enemy, and taken in stride.

Once the talk between the two has simmered out, they would once again find themselves in their rooms by themselves.

Things were not looking good. The world of crumbling, NATO was unable to find a way to stand to the increasing threat of the Kaiju force and the last hope for humanity (POH) was lasting on barrowed time and limited recourses.

All of these factors would weigh heavy on the hearts of both Remy and Luc and they would silently figure out how to survive long term.

A week would pass before any new orders would be given to the unit.

They were to help the Rangers Escort the Glenn Core Executive Lisandra Glenn to Kinshasa which was the capital of the Congo Republic. The Executive was to hold a meeting with the President of the Congo in an attempt to form a better business deal and allow additional mining operations to take place within the Red Zone. This mission was critical as the POH that were standing around the world were running low on supplies for NATO based Countries.

Since they were leaving the Red Zone they would be boarding a plane and acting as security for Lisandra alongside some of the Rangers. This was to be a quick assignment and hopefully by the time they made it back to Hayward things would be cleared up and the team would be ready to be sent off back to the Terminus.

This also gave them a chance to see if there was any chance of getting some upgrades for their Mechs.

Scene Pickup

The Scene picks up with the Two of them in their rooms getting themselves ready for a Security Detail. In a few moments they both would be expected to enter into the Hangar and mount up on the Plane heading to Kinshasa.

Everything in this operation until now was a mess. And now it looked like the pilots were about to be assigned to guard duty while outside their frames, which seemed like a recipe for yet another mess. The best she could hope for was that she and 17 would be up for whatever challenges present themselves.

After reading the mission file several times, the implied wording suggested heavily that this was but a routine mission, a milk run as it were, in order to satisfy the nervousness of a high-value VIP. It was not expected that they would have to enter direct combat, or do anything else than sip spiced tea whilst shadowing the young executive. Which, of course, meant that No.17 armed himself with his usual choice of hidden and innocuous weaponry, before heading out after a brief warm-up session at the virtual sparring halls to relax his muscles. All Numbered agents were conditioned to react to combat with unconsciously trained skill, but it was best to make sure that he was still up to par. As far as he knew, Remy was a pilot first and foremost, which meant that he would need to deal with any threats comprehensively before they could threat either Glencore or his partner.

Heading down to the hangar, he fell into step besides her, his particular suit for the occasion extra-starched.

As the both of them entered into the Hanger, there stood the Lie Vante and the Coucou Gris simply waiting for them to enter. But this was simply not the time and they would pass by it as they walked closer to the plane. Outside stood a fairly decent amount of US soldiers and GlenCore Representatives.

a young soldier would come rushing up towards them. " Greetings, I know you guys are pilots but we don't have a secondary sniper unit and we really could use the help. Does either one of you know how to handle the SR-25? Its a really good gun and the handling isnt that bad. But from the sounds of it, Lessandra and the Congo Pres are going to be doing some kind public announcement together. We need to make sure she's protected at this event." The soldier would simply hold out the weapon hoping that one of the two of them would grab it.

Remy stepped forward. "One does not just hand a rifle to make a sniper on the spot. But I'll have to make do."

She accepted the rifle, ensured that it's unloaded, and looked for a way to stow it until it's needed. "Let's just hope we never need a real specialist for it this time."

She wracked her brain for what makes SR-25 a 'good gun' and how to best capitalise on its merits compared to other analogues.

No.17 inspected the casing with a trained eye as it was passed over, frowning. Something about the mission seemed...Off. Surely NATO had far more infantrymen and normal specialists than they did Pilots. After all, it was those who were in short supply. And yet to be asked to be led away from their personal Mechs, to guard a corporate exec on their way to a seemingly routine business meeting...Either this had been set up by conspirators behind the scenes, or it spoke volumes of the budget cuts NATO had been forced to make to keep their existing Mechs running. Both scenarios were equally concerning in their own right, but he merely accepted the new roles they had been slotted into with a nod. If nothing else, they would be someplace with very few entries and exits to guard, so nobody should be able to sneak up on them easily.

Getting on the Plane, the both of them were passed bullet proof vests and a helmet. Once attacthed to the infantry coms, the team lead would simply state. " We will be touching down in an hour. We have two Humvees that will be used for our full team to survey the area and find the best approach to protecting VP. Keep your eyes on a swivel, not everyone in that town likes NATO and would do anything to cause some chaos."

And with that the plane would take off towards the Capital of the Congo.

As the plane took off, Remy found an officer to discuss further coordination of the plan with - points of interest, updated zones of responsibility, the usual. The mission seemed to have too many uncertainties and suboptimal elements of the setup already; complicating it due to messing up something really basic would be just too much.

Before the flight had taken off, No.17 looked up the map of the expected public location, along with estimated force strength and variable organizations that had interests in the local region. It was always best to be prepared, and even something as small as a fire escape route might prove vital for funneling a VIP or getting closer to a threat. He worked best close-up, after all.

The Pilots emerged from their Humvees, the sun blazing from the clear, cloudless sky above. The air was thick with the smells of Kinshasa. The two military vehicles had dropped them off in front of the bustling street markets of the capital. The roads were filled with cars, buses, and pedestrians, and everyone was talking and laughing as they went about their day.

Both Humvees made their way through the crowded streets, taking in the sights and sounds around them. Everywhere they looked, there were people selling food and clothing from makeshift stalls. The walls of the buildings were old and crumbling, but they still stood at an impressive height.

The group finally reached their destination: the National Park. It was a wide open space, framed by tall buildings in the near distance. The stage was set up at the center of the park, ready for a speech by Lisandra and the president.

The Pilots began to survey their surroundings, taking note of the open area and the tall buildings in the near distance that could be used for a sniper position they needed. They also noted the thick foliage and the trees that had grown up around the park, providing shade and cover.

They continued to move through the park, eventually reaching a large fountain at the center. The water was still and the air was peaceful, but the Pilots could sense a tension in the air. They knew that the speech would soon be taking place here, and they all shared a sense of anticipation for what could happen.

The group continued their exploration, taking in the sights as they went. They paused at a monument that stood on the outskirts of the park. It was a stone column, topped with a bronze eagle, its wings outstretched towards the sky.

The Team Capitan quickly motioned for everyone to dismount for the Humvees and to meet neat the statue. Once everyone was out, he would say to the group. " Alright I dont think were going to get much else from sitting in the Vechs. We need to do sound survey via foot. Remy and No.17, you will be attached to Blue Team which will be setting up positions on the Buildings that over look the park. Go ahead and make your way over there and figure out where you're going to set up. Be careful and radio back in if you need any help."

Once explained, Blue Team would nod over to Remy and Luc in a gesture for them to begin heading out with them. Along the walk the other three soldiers would introduce themselves to the pilots. " Greetings, were Nathan, Kyle and Lucas its nice to be working with both of you. I know you both are not marksmen but Im sure we could use the extra eyes on this field. We were told its going to be quite the event."

"17, I think it's best if you would become the one to explore and examine the best positions for me. We both stand out when observed in a crowd, but I believe you would be inclined to stay out of sight throughout the task. Meanwhile, I have no chance to avoid attention, so I might as well take the more upfront approach to learning about the locale," said Remy, planning to find some receptive people on the streets and ask some questions about 'the less advertised side of tourism', such as famous parkour routes and other things not found in booklets.

Remy manages to engage with a local african woman, who delightfully escorts her and another soldiers through the back alleyways of the city. Before entering the alleyway they were met by two gang affiliated men blocking the entry. The woman pulled out a few congo credits and the men moved out of the way. It appeared that the men acted as a toll for the back route of the city. " You can move way faster through the city using these alleyways but you need to be careful one wrong turn and you can end up in some gang territory."

Remy would discover the aspect Highway of the Slums x2

Luc would finally make it to the building that they were supposed to set up at. Majority of the buildings looked rather unstable and have a few obstacles that had to be overcome before he could make it to the top. Luckily Luc also had majority of Blue Team alongside him that would offer help if need be.

ISSUE

In order to get to the top of the building would require a +5 Athletics Roll. This is due to the various environmental dangers that pose a serious issue to Luc and Blue Team in order to safely get on the rooftops.

Blue Team would offer Luc Team Work which would be a +1 to Luc's Roll.

Although this was a foreign place to No.17, it would have been lying to say that he had no training in navigating rough and non-standard environments. Climbing up rifts of jagged metal, narrow stairways that were rusted and partially shattered, and flimsy makeshift bridges, they arrived on the rooftop. With the Blue Team safely delivered, he turned back towards them with his usual look. "I take it you can secure the perimeter? I work better down below, within arm's reach of any threats."
