Ideas that came from Them were dangerous. For ages, the tribe had kept these ways, and remained strong. Recently, however, the tribe in the village that They called Rrargashruurlara was starting to learn that there were different kinds of They, and not all of them were the wicked creatures their grandparents had warned them about. The tribe was learning about the many different kinds of They - Pathfinders could usually be trusted, anything from Cheliax was usually dangerous. Trade routes were beginning to form, as the tribe traded beads, pelts, and little bits of art for useful things, like medicines and metal. Still, anything that was from Them that wasn't immediately useful was regarded with distrust, if not simply thrown into the fire or left in the jungle. So, it was understandable that it wasn't until Banana was of age that he revealed that he had gotten his hands on one of the magic word collections that They used. At first, he was scolded from hiding such a dangerous thing away, but the matriarchs began to recognize that even if it took time, the "book" had uses, especially in somebody gifted like Banana. He had demonstrated a knack for not only reading the magic words, but adapting them to make him hit harder with the staff he had a habit of carrying around, just in case he needed to poke something that might do more than poke back. However, most of the book was blank, so his potential to grow in power was halted, unlike the bonespeakers. However, asking around brought up a place just a few week's journey from Rrargashruurlaru called "the Magaambaya". The matriarchs assembled, debated, consulted the spirits, and then called Banana back into their presence, before bestowing on him the additional name of Stalwart, and giving him a crudely scribbled letter of recommendation. Appearance
Banana is on the taller side of things for a male gnoll, nearly reaching 7 feet, and is definitely a sturdy fellow with typical great gnoll coloration. The main exception is his hair - rather than the typical brown, his mohawk and brows are reddish in tone. He also bleaches his mohawk blond, though the long trek to the Magaambaya has let it grow out enough that his natural color is showing through. His chest and back are tattooed, with his chest bearing the markings of the Rrargashruurlaru tribe, and his shoulder depicting a banana tree in scarified artwork.
Personality
Banana is far more gregarious than one would imagine from a gnoll, always eager to meet new people, and then treat them to a barrage of puns, bad jokes, and questions about how people leave outside of the tribes. He's also a bit self-conscious about his eyesight - he prefers to be alone before he slips on his glasses, otherwise, he'll try to compensate by squinting. He also doesn't understand why people laugh at his name and gets a bit grumpy when the chortling goes on too long. Like most gnolls, he's very physical in his expressions, though he has enough experience with more fragile races to not punch them, at least, not with any measure of force.
Background
Us and Them. For ages, the kholo have defined their world by those two words. Anything of the tribe or familiar to the tribe was Us. Everything else was Them. Ideas that came from Us were good. If all goes well, more of Them might be considered Us, and this new way of learning magic might become another tool to ensure the tribe remains strong.
Equipment
  • Corrective Lenses: Banana is far-sighted, so he needs these to read easily. He thinks they make him look weird, though, so he often tries to go without using them.
  • Writing Set: One of the first things that Banana obtained diverging from his tribe's norms. Most of his kin rely on oral tradition, and proper writing has only been a thing for a couple of generations.
  • Artisan's Tools: Specifically, woodworking tools. One of the biggest investments he made was trading a cord of darkwood for a set of metal chisels. The rest of his toolset is made from igneous rock, bone, or wood. Woodworking isn't only a way for Banana to make some money, it's also something he does to relax.
  • "Grandma": Not all of her, just her femur in a little leather carrying case. Rrargashruurlaru pray to their ancestors for most day-to-day issues, saving petitions to the gods for bigger problems. Though Banana isn't a bonespeaker, he still will occasionally speak to his late grandmother via her bone.

Hello there Lex!

Should I get accepted into the game, I'd be in this group. Always looking for a chance to connect backstories. Might you be interested in some tie ins? Specifically, might she and her Hellknight contingent have been one of the dangerous things from Cheliax the Rrargashruurlara encountered?

So. Downtime, he'd be working to move up in his branch and sub-branch and try to get closer to Anchor Root (the big guy is such a simp, isn't he?) He might also look into getting a proper magic staff to use - probably a Staff of Fire
