...with a mess of quick, sequential effects. James' web stops the fleeing mount and rider long enough for Levi's blow to straight-up implode the half-rotten pachyderm skull. The collapsing mount throws its rider into the web, just in time for a one-two punch of fire and caustic gas to remove both the web and the top layer of skin from all involved.

The fireball, in particular, has unintended consequences. The fire visibly deforms around a monstrous head, and a watery roar shakes the clearing. An...oddly small but stingingly potent burst of acid washes over one elephant and the Dridsrest duo. Prince dodges the worst of it, and hares off to a flanking position with an arrow nocked. Dwik lives up to his family name and runs from the cloud, bellowing a stirring Draconic chantInspire Courage +2 as soon as it's safe to open his mouth, clarion clear in spite of his burns. The back part of the standing elephant is mostly dissolved, an inadvertent demonstration of the difference in potency in the two otherwise similar breath weapons.

 

(Also Niiza was in the cloud, but all the happens to her is a bad smell.)

It's...well, it's not just a green dragon. Under the dirt, it's green and it's definitely dragon-like, but it's not a Green Dragon.

 

Knowlege(Arcana or Nature)

This is a particularly large specimen of a Giant Snapping turtle, that is also half green dragon.

Almost forgotten, the bogeyman that fire and acid freed from the web, speaks to Niiza in a carrying stage-whisper.

 

"CaN't TRusT tHose DeMOns! She's GoinG fOr THe SNaKe, I suggest you AttACk hEr!"

 

What's she's actually doing is taunting the big turtle, but battle is chaotic. The arrow sticking out of a crest on the turtle's head and Dwik being healed by Jandra have their windups lost to fog of war.


OOCDC20 Will for Niiza, make a vaguely in-character attack on Ash if fail.

A flood of information comes over the psychic link.

Oh, I guess that's NOT a dragon. Or at least not entirely. It's a half green dragon giant snapping turtle. Giant snapping turtles tend to sleep 15 hours a day but they're active predators when awake. They normally inhabit large lakes and rivers, eating anything more calorie-dense than wood that they can catch. They prefer large aquatic mammals like freshwater cetaceans and sirenians. So nobody make a noise like a manatee.

The fact it's a half-dragon might cause some strange quirks in behavior. Generally half green dragons are often fiercely territorial and use natural magical abilities for ambush predation. Obviously it can spit acid. Oh, and this thing can fly, which is why there aren't any footprints leading into the area. Not well, mind you, but keep that in mind.

Giant snapping turtles are non-sentient, so unless the non-dragon parent in the pair was Awakened, this guy will be as intelligent as a dog. Which sounds weird but Chromatic dragons in particular tend to couple with almost anything with a pulse, sometimes just to alleviate boredom. A similar-sized reptilian creature is tame compared to some other dragon hybrids out there. There are half-dragon rats. Well documented fact. I am cursed with this knowledge and now you are too.

Back in the Fight

Noting the rise of the draconic tortoise, Vael would keep an external calm as she hurried up, ViVi following in kind. While Talia would go into a great description of the creature, Vael was more focused on getting the flourish right this time, spinning her stave to release a torrent of pummelling orbs of force. Vivienne would deftly claim two of the many knives from the garter-bandoleer on her right thigh and flick them forward in swift succession with barely a glint to denote their path.

Mechanics

Vael and ViVi move up 30', Vael uses Arcane Torrent (Reflex DC23 for half) and ViVi spends a Ki to turn invisible, throwing two knives. Only the first is a sneak attack.

A bass rumble of pain resonates through the clearing, and, the uncanny inverse of a beetle's anatomy, wings fold out from the outside of the vast shell. Dirt flies outward as gravity cries in confused agony, feeling the house sized turtle ascend.

 

Talia was correct; it's flight is clumsy and would be no use in battle. Clumsy, however, is not actually a synonym for slow. In a straight line, it can and does haul shell, though not so fast it should have disappeared as quickly as it did...

Perception or Spellcraft 20

Something cast Invisibility on it once it was at full speed; you can still hear wingbeats.

The remaining boogeyman forgoes any dignity it might have had and desperately scrambles for the bushes, practically leaping with the force of Levi's reflexive punch…to no avail, as the flaming scales leave it landing on it’s de-hatted head, ass over teakettle and unmoving.

With one side in retreat, the battlefield was quiet for a few long moments. Until James breaks the silence with a sigh at least.

"And I just finished buffing. Gonna be honest, I'd be happier if there wasn't an invisible giant dragon turtle out there somewhere. Is everyone alright at least?"

Levi was so hyper focused on the man in front of him not getting away that he completely missed the disappearance of the giant turtle dragon thing. At least he had results for his intense focus. "Hmm." The man fell in a very... Unflattering position. After looking around and seeing everyone calmed down, signalling that the battle ended, Levi walked a few steps over to the newly unconscious man and picked him up by the back of his shirt.

"Who wants to deal with him?" He says to the group, the weird man puppeteered by his own shirt.

The elephants were already dead and filled with fungus, finally passing a second time. A flash of irrational anger passed his face as he remembers the time he went to the Zoo as a child. The Elephants did not deserve this fate.


Niiza, oblivious to this emotion, bends over to take a good look at the downed Boogyman. "Nope! You are no longer scary to me!" She smiles. "Just another we defeated on the road of our adventure!"

She hears James ask if everyone is alright and turns to him. "Yep! All good to continue to the adventure. Come on everyone, we need to get there before they have time to prepare!"

OH MY SCIENCE DID YOU SEE THAT?! comes Talia's mental voice over the link as the little fox does loop-de-loops in excitement. James rolled his eyes at Talia's (honestly predictable at this point) outburst. "Repeatability is a useful thing to establish, but dissection still isn't the most...polite? thing to bring up after ever combat. Though I suppose time is a bit of the essence for this one." He felt like throwing her a bone with that last bit. Talia could be cute when she was excited, if a bit unsettling.

"As for your question, assuming none of us have something along the lines of a stasis spell (which I think is the case), I believe our reasonable options would be tying him up and hoping he's still here when we or someone else comes back to collect him later, tying him up and bringing him along, hoping he doesn't cause any problems when he wakes up...or making sure
he doesn't wake up."  He pauses a moment before continuing. "The last option seems the most practical, but doesn't exactly sit well with me."

spacer.png Lorelei sighs softly. "If you really want to bring it along, the only way I can think of is to stuff it into a Bag of Holding or the like. I'm not even certain one could contain it if we had such, however. Maybe that's an experiment you should run someday: the effects of Bags of Holding on living beings. You could begin with small animals I bet. That's how science usually works, isn't it?" She offers a very faint smirk, or a smile. It's hard to say which. What isn't hard to say though, is that Lorelei is clearly a bit touched. Or perhaps she just has mild sociopathic tendencies? Either way, she promptly reminds the party they're on a time crunch and should move on. Further discussions on such matters can wait. Were they not in the middle of pushing for the Capitol?
