James

During the deliberation James' ears perked up, picking up something he'd so far missed. Something I thought I'd share with the class: There's a rat hiding on the southern wall. It's pretty huge for a rat, but seems to be just a rat. And there's an eagle perched on the western one. Well, something that looks like an eagle at least. The heartbeat is incredibly bizarre, so whatever it really is I think it's safe to say it's weird. Neither seem fungus'd, so this is new territory.

As for strategy...well, it's a bit awkward not knowing for certain where all the enemies are, or if we've accounted for everything. It might be worth striking, letting the enemies counter-ambush, then going from there. Let them play their hand from a less advantageous position than they were expecting. It's not exactly the best plan, but it's more likely to get everyone to reveal themselves than if we start throwing out fireballs I feel like. And we've done a fairly good job on absorbing what's been thrown at us so far. Not that it's a good idea that'll stay true indefinitely.

Levi took the offered rope from Dwik and tied up the creepy man... Weirdly well. He's never seen a more perfect knot in his life. There is almost no way that anything would be able to get out of that knot.

He looked sideways at his work. "Huh..." He tried to undo the knot, but it was impossible for him to see how to untie it.

It was a perfect knot. Unbelievable. He never knew how to tie more than his shoelaces, how was he able to make something with such... Such beauty?

Levi looked through his belongings to see if he had anything else he could tie up, and anything to tie with. It was at this point Prince took the prisoner over his shoulder.

While he was searching through his pack Niiza came up to him. "You looking for something? Is it more rope?" The closest thing to rope he could find was the straps on his backpack, or the belt around his waist. The belt was magic, so that was off the table. He replied to the little girl as he started to fiddle with his straps. "Yes... something like that." He make a knot. "I have no idea how I am making these knots. Nor how to unmake them..." He looks at a strap of his backpack, now riddled with perfect knots. "I don't think this was an ability I had. Unless I forgot about it?"

He took his book out of his backpack and flipped through it as he walked. It took the whole trip to the outpost, but he wasn't able to find anything about making knots or tying up people with rope.

Niiza peeked over his shoulder a few times (by hovering mid-air) but got bored with the book. "It's just a bunch of numbers."

She instead walks next to him and tries to undo the knots he made in the backpack strap, but did not have any luck herself at getting it opened.


When they got to the place Niiza elbowed Levi, who was still distracted by the book and the knots. He listened to Dwik and understood that something was wrong. He activated his ability that let his comrades speak with their minds.

He didn't know what exactly was wrong though, so he just listened as everyone talked about who was sneaking in to check it out. Talia, Vael, and Vael's butler all turned invisible and went in.

Niiza, now instilled with the responsibility to take care of the party first, continuously scanned the area outside the place for any danger. Levi stood at attention, ready for the eventual conflict that was bound to happen.

Though the message from James, with information relayed from Talia, got him thinking. Literally. He thought to his comrades 'What if I talked to them first? They may not be the Evil we are here to defeat. I am also one of the best people in our group to get attacked if it does happen.'

He concentrates for a moment. His scales lay down flat, making him look smaller and less intimidating. The scales then shrink even tighter to his body, boosting their toughness. He doesn't move though. The snake waits for the team to decide. They are much wiser and smarter than him.

Vael would silently sneak about the garrison, scouting for dangers and such with ViVi faithfully at her side keeping an eye out for traps and snares and so forth. Drahalk would be in the air, her eye in the sky, ready to inform her of any threats. Also to claim whatever treasures he came across first. Because he is a grand and noble dragon. "Thusfar no, but I'm on a swivel. Going a tad deeper..."

As Drahak's flight path approaches the rat, a Small (well, larger than him but smaller than Vael) hidden humanoid fuzzes into the far edge of his blindsense, along with enough of a whiff of the man playing possum to provide his Arcanist with adequate information to identify his species.

Something rather more dramatic happens as Lorelei's familiar approaches the odd eagle. With an owl's eyes...that's a goose. A shockingly well-disguised goose, provided you never see it from above, with a little wooden eagle beak and fake claws-someone put way too much time into this.

Especially since all that just goes flying off when the painted goose becomes a painted boggle, and the random, perverse urge to laugh becomes obvious...but not irresistible. I rolled Will for everyone in secret and EVERYONE passed.

"WE'RE MADE!! Cheese it, dimwicks! They ain't fooled!"

The little goatman's panic is mildly funny, though. Especially since his cry goes completely unheeded; the only visible enemy doesn't break character, and anyone hiding stays so. There's an awkward moment of silence.

Even though Strigiformes are obviously far superior, this one feels offended on behalf of all avians everywhere! How dare these strange fey take on such shapes! Well, James hadn't exactly meant for someone to walk (or flap, whatever) right up to the not-an-eagle, but apparently that happened. He'd have to be more clear with his communication going forward. That being said, the end result wasn't bad, yet. To be honest it was rather entertainingly absurd and he would have given more than chuckle to did emerge from him if the situation wasn't still as tense as it was.

On a more serious note though, one enemy was proved to exist, and the expected presence of more was more or less confirmed. Things were still dangerous. "Well, I've wanted to try this trick for a bit. Let's see how it turns out." He says, as he reaches out to Levi and Niiza on front of him. At the moment of contact a pulse of rippling flesh spreads through James into the two of them, resulting in vastly different effects. Levi exploded in size, now towering over everyone. James went in the opposite direction, now coming up to the knees of most of the group. And while nothing so obvious occurred to Niiza, an expansion of muscles did occur. "If the rest of those present don't feel like revealing themselves, I suppose it might be worth heading in to find them."

The initial plan was to throw metamorphosis on Levi+Talia, but it can only be shared via touch and she's way over there. Didn't go for the size boost on Niiza as she's under a change shape effect, which is generally a polymorph effect (even if it's written weirdly by the feat she gets it from), and those suppress size changes from other sources.

 

Mechanical actions

Activating overchannel for +1 ML to manifest metamorphosis at ML 9, spending 5 PP to perform the base effect (boosted by his improved metamorphosis feat) and spending an extra 4 PP to also apply it to two touched targets via his shared effect discipline power.

Levi choices: increased size by two categories (+4 str, -4 dex) and 20 temp HP
Niiza: +4 enhancement bonus to str, 20 temp HP
James: decrease size by two categories (+4 dex, -4 str) and +4 enhancement bonus to dex.

Levi was surprised when the hawk became a goose and yelled at... No one? So surprised that he couldn't even laugh at the situation. "Oh?"

He became surprised once more when he grew 18 feet. "OH!"

Levi looked at his hands, arms, and his small comrades around him, one of them shrunk to be very very small. He looked over to the 'bleeding' person on the ground, and mentally told his teammates 'I'm going to go get him'.

He walked with huge steps over to the downed man, Nizza chasing after him. "Wait for me!"

10 steps in and he was already there. He scooped his hand down and picked up the wounded man in a firm grip. "I GOT HIM."


Niiza finally caught up to Levi and put a hand on him. "Armor!" She didn't have to say that to use the Mage Armor spell, but the thought of magically enhancing a giant snakeman excited her enough to do so.
