Human (Beastkin Heritage) • Barbarian 1
Medium • Lawful Neutral • Character Sheet

Appearance

A towering individual even in his human form, Borrus is an imposing mass of muscle and fur, with long hair that he puts minimal effort into maintaining. His coloration is that of a cave bear, which somehow carries over to his human form, with his body hair being a mixture of grey and brown. He considers his human form ugly, with a square face and a flat nose, so he tends to stay in his hybrid form, and his hands are heavily callused from a mixture of handling weapons and honest labor.

Personality

Borrus has beliefs very much befitting a worshipper of Erastil. He values quietude, simplicity, and honesty. The idea of needing a trail of titles half a page long, a house five times the size of anyone else, or the need to say one thing while meaning something entirely different irritates him to no end. He much prefers good tilled earth, a lush forest, or fishing next to a rushing river to hobnobbing with sneering courtiers or going through paperwork. The biggest contrast between his ethos and that of Erastil is his views on combat. Borrus enjoys a good scrap, though he prefers something like arm wrestling or sparring to anything that would result in a loss of life.

He rather enjoys the idea of a united Brevoy, but would honestly be okay if the various subnations would just stop their constant bickering.

History

Though he's a native of Rostland born and raised, Borrus is actually of Irissen descent, the child of an Ulfen Guard and an Ice Witch who chose to leave the lands of the Baba Yaga and make the long trek to the more fertile lands of Brevoy. It turns out that Borrus's father was actually a werebear who kept his condition well-hidden, and Borrus came out with a weaker version of the benign lycanthropy. He wasn't particularly good at hiding his transformation, but it turns out that having somebody who's literally strong as a bear on a farm can be extremely useful. Eventually, the locals became inured to the sight of a shaggy bear-man chasing away the odd fox or wolf, lifting a cart wheel out of a pothole, or hefting more than his fair share of grain during the harvest.

Borrus inherited something else from his parents, too, that also didn't sit particularly well with his neighbors - their quite literal cold fury. When some ruffians started implying that it would be a shame if their fields caught fire, Borrus grabbed one of them by the lapels, and his clothes became rimed with frost, even though it was mid-summer. Admittedly, it was his mother that put the fear of death in them - Borrus was and still is not known for his eloquence. But it was clear that Borrus had a gift that wasn't suited for farm fields and pastures. So, when the call for adventurers went out, Borrus hefted his father's maul over his shoulder and started the long walk to Restov.
