Detailed Description

A campaign runs with Savage Pathfinder, a slightly different version of SWADE, going for a cinematic feel here.

The game takes place in the world of the Nentir Vale, a settled frontier region dotted with ruins and monsters lairs. The game start in the Town of Fallcrest. Fallcrest is pretty much the hub and surrounded by farmlands. Travelers and traders come to Fallcrest being at the intersection between the old King Road and the dwarven trade road. The people of Fallcrest are mostly humans, halflings and dwarves. The local temples are for Erathis, Sehahine and Pelor.

A Nest of bandits near Fallcrest has been causing troubles, The Lord Warden is on the lookout for traveling or local sellswords to take care of the problem.

Seeking 3 to 5 players.

  1. What's new in this game
  2. Just a bump to see if this game is still a thing or if it just died on the table.
  3. Backstory Renard... what can be said about Renard? First off... it's not my real name... at least it wasn't when I was born and growing up. You see, I never knew my mother. I was told she died in childbirth, which wasn't a great start for me. That's always been a source of guilt, thinking that I was the reason why her life ended when mine began. I still carry that. My father, on the other hand, had a very... loose way of raising me. He made sure I had food and clothing, of course. Shelter, on the other hand, well... that wasn't a constant. Neither was money. You see, my father (I can't really call him Dad... we weren't that close to each other) was somewhat of a... okay, let's not beat about the bush here... He was a thief. A con man. A grifter. A smuggler at times. Basically, he wasn't quite on the side of the law. That's why we never stayed around in one place for long... and if we did go back to a particular location, there was a long gap of time between visits -- and hopefully an even longer gap in local memory. Which brings me to... what... when I was nine. You see, that's the moment when my father (almost said "Dad" there again) slipped up, and got himself arrested. I did like he taught me... I ran. He never told anyone I was his son. And... well... he went to some sort of prison, not sure where. I haven't seen him since. That's, what... fifteen years maybe? Anyways, I was now on my own. He taught me how to do some things, of course... mostly how to beg, how to look for cheap or free housing... Basically I was self-raised on the streets for the best part of two years... until I tried to pick the wrong pocket. My mark was someone who looked well-off enough that he wouldn't miss a few coins. Boy, did I screw up. Oh, I got the pouch... but when I got back to my hide, there he was, sitting there as if he was waiting for me... which, in fact, he was. "That was a good lift, kid," he said to me. "One of the best I've seen... but, you should know that I let you take it... as a test." I was stymied. A test? You see, my mark wasn't a regular everyday nobleman. Nope. He himself was a thief, and apparently a damn good one. He said I could keep the coins, but he wanted to offer me something: a better life. At least, to become like him... a better thief. I thought on this... I was cold, dirty, hungry. Most of the time I was stealing small things like scraps, fruit, some coins here and there. But I was just a kid. What other choice did I have? I accepted on the spot. And so, this man took me under his wing. He told me his name... Renard. That's all. A single name. Me, well... my own name has been lost over time because I never needed to use it for anything. My father kept changing our names each time we went into a new town. So, Renard gave me a name -- Evan... though he told me not to get used to it. For the next several years, he taught me how to be a better thief -- sleight of hand, picking pockets, defeating locks and traps, being stealthy. you know... what every thief needs to know. He was my mentor... sometimes a father figure... and yes, a friend. At least, until a few years back... he slipped up. He basically tried to steal from the wrong people. He thought they were just regular businessmen, but... that was a front. The were a small element in a larger gang... a gang that had, well... hitters. And one hitter trailed us for months... until they found Renard. You see, I came back from a typical day in a new place. I had lifted some pouches, and went back to our hide... only to find Renard barely clinging to life. In his last breaths in this world, he gave me two things -- one was a silver pendant with a sapphire set in it, along with a matching ring. He told me to keep those hidden and safe. He also gave me one more thing that was more precious -- his name. You see, he wasn't the original Renard. That person died ages ago. My mentor was like me, a vagabond who was down on his luck who happened to steal from the wrong person. Renard here had seen me work when I was young, and thought I'd be a suitable heir. The pendant, ring, and name were all passed down from mentor to student at some point. Now I would hold that name. His last few breaths were spent telling me to run. Don't look back. But also, when the time was right, take on an apprentice to pass along the tradition. That was four years ago. I still use the name, though I don't think the reputation has followed. It's not like the name Renard holds any renown or myth behind it. It's a name... But it's also a badge, in a sense. An identity. Something I can hold on to, something I can pass along. I hope I can live up to it. Character Notes He still carries guilt about his mother. However, he never had proof that she died in childbirth. All he has is what his father told him. He knew his father lied for a living. Could he have lied about that too? He doesn't always use Renard as a name. Sometimes he falls back on Evan, the only other constant name he remembers. He's not greedy. He steals what he needs, and he's willing to share with those who are less fortunate. Since the name is in use, he does keep an eye over his shoulder in case he runs across another hitter that's looking for someone with the name Renard. He does tend to "look before he leaps".

  5. Tomorrow I should be able to write everything up. EDIT: Now the sheet is complete of description and backstory for Tharras ๐Ÿ™‚ It should remain only to better format the gear section (I admit I'm finding myself a little short of space there). Let me know if I'm missing anything else!
  6. I'm going to change my concept up a bit... With the Gunslinger and Magus coming in the next SWPF Booster campaign, I kind of want to hold off on that concept I had. :) I've got an idea in mind and should be able to finish it up by tomorrow...
  7. It should be fine to smite multiple different weapons that way. Officially you have to terminate for everyone. From PEGmike: "Sorry for the late update, I was correct, you still have to terminate it for everyone. Its possible we were going to change it and decided not to, then missed the edit we had already done. " This wasn't updated for SW PF, so the description is still the same.
  8. I guess only a couple doubts remain now: can I use a self-limited Smite with Additional Recipients to enhance multiple weapons on the PC? For example enhancing a ranged weapon and a sidearm together in case he finds himself in melee later on. And again about Additional Recipients (more in general now): does the caster need to maintain a power on all the recipients or can he terminate it selectively (keeping the power active on some recipients but not on others)? Anyway, I'm moving away a little from my original idea, going for a sorcerer archer instead (between the other characters I've seen, melee should be decently covered already ๐Ÿ™‚). The idea in a nutshell is that of a half-orc raised by a lone wizard, who after a hard period after losing his guardian decided to get back out there, become an adventurer and possibly follow the wizard's footsteps (so basically planning to multiclass Wizard at some point and take Bonded Object for the +1 to Spellcasting).
  9. Forgot to comment this, so, let's see if I got this straight: I can cast a self Smite on any weapon I'm holding, but the effect only works when said weapon is wielded by me. That's basically how should be interpreted.
  10. Oh, I see, I think you have the un-updated version too, because I found this in the :
  11. -The limitation is simply to say that it doesn't work if you want to hand it out to an ally. It only works for you. -Notice, Shooting and Survival when you get Mystic Powers at veteran rank. I don't see the mending cantrip but all powers can be used as "cantrips" version/lower versions.
  12. Still evaluating some other ideas, so a couple more questions: - Smite with Self limitation seems to be limited to a specific weapon? How specific exactly? Can it be changed if for example someone loses/change their main weapon? - I don't seem to have the updated Advanced Guide, so I'd like to have clear a couple things: Inquisitor's Mystic Powers can only boost Notice, Intimidation and Survival, correct? And how does the Mending cantrip work exactly?
  13. Right now, running with one of my go-to concepts... Human rogue who's more of a pickpocket and general thief... with a bit of charm about him that he uses to try to get out of trouble. More later when I develop the character.
  14. If the smite trapping that you pick is suitable to your Draconic Bloodline, yes it should stack. Like if your Smite is fire and your draconic bloodline is a Red Dragon, it will stack. If you pick smite and a trapping that doesn't match the Draconic bloodline, then no.
  15. A doubt: would the ability of the Draconic Bloodline that gives +1 damage to appropriate powers affect Smite? Or is the boost to weapon damage not considered "power damage"?
  16. Alright, cool, I think I will leave it as is for now then. That helps, thanks! ๐Ÿ˜€
  17. Reviewing the Pathfinder book, I can see that! It's the same approach that was taken with the World of WarCraft: The Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook: "Here's the Core rules, and here's our supplemental rules.". Except... this approach that I'm seeing now is better. So much better. now if I might be excused, I must sandblast some things off of that sheet ๐Ÿ˜บ๐Ÿ˜ผ
  18. It depends on your focus: Agility has more uses for physical combat (Fighting and Shooting skills) Spirit helps you resist supernatural abilities and also works with social skills like intimidation, and if you are a divine caster like a Cleric, its important for the Faith skill.
  19. I am deciding whether to go d8 agility d8 spirit, or stay with d6 agility d10 spirit. I might have to read the combat section before deciding.
  20. Pathfinder is basically self contained and modifies some stuff from SWADE. Like Savage Pathfinder is basically its own corebook before any confusion. SWADE is basically great if you plan to play many different genres/settings + appropriate companion. Savage Pathfinder is rooted in Fantasy setting and of course use Golarion as the base setting but it is easy enough to use any other fantasy setting (Forgotten Realms, Nentir Vale, Greyhawk etc...)
  21. Points of Light is a great setting... Glad I saw this. I've got a hard copy of the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition, and found the Pathfinder supplement. I'm gonna clone the sheet for this DragonLance character I made over on another message board, and recalibrate them for Points of Light.

Had it not been for Xian Fei, a expat from distant lands and follower of Desna, Cirus might never have taken steps into the outside world. For many years Fei watched over the boy, subtly teaching him of the world at large, including his culture's methods of defense since many of the other children bullied the youth. When Cirus turned 10, after several years at the Abbey, Fei took him on a pilgrimage with a pair of scholars so Cirus might learn the history and culture of Nerath. Along the way, he learned much and even learned to incorporate much of Desnaโ€™s holy weapon as well as the ideas and expressions of the Tarot into his martial style. His life truly took a turn when, just as Cirus turned 15, Fei extended their pilgrimage on into the Nentir Vale so that Cirus would learn that portion of his birth heritage. For two years they wandered, listening and learning as they journeyed alongside all manner of traveller. Then, at that point however, fate frowned upon them and the caravan they travelled with was attacked and destroyed, with Cirus being one of he few survivors. Mourning his mentor, Cirus sought honorable vengeance against the attackers, in the end being part of an expedition to wipe them out. After that, Cirus struggled to decide his path. Feeling Desna's influence urging him to travel, visiting place to place and spreading her faith as mush as possible. His journeys over the last two years have led him from Nentir Vale, through Southern Nerath, to distant ports in other regions, and back to Nentir Vale once again just in time to celebrate his twenty-first birthday. Little did he know of the further twists Desna had in store for him...
