Welcome to the Sea of Grass. This game is a DungeonWorld, Jumanji/D&D cartoon-style of story, in that teens from our world have been pulled into a mostly abandoned, post-apocalyptic-feeling fantasy world as their favorite fantasy characters. The PCs will be older teens (16-18), and the remaining NPCs in the group (~4) may be younger. Since this is PbP, the scenario will be a pretty short, linear adventure (lasting for 4-6 months of real time) of trying to do the thing to get home. Characters will level quickly. The game will begin when the characters all wake up in the fantasy world as their favorite fantasy character.

Find a detailed description of the game here: https://www.myth-weavers.com/index.php?/topic/19167-character-creation-and-additional-game-rules/

  1. What's new in this game
  2. Sounds good. You are all set. Are you on Discord? If you are and would like to be a part of the pre-game group DM for potential players, find me on the MW discord and send me a friend request (@caystodd) and I'll add you.
  3. Check, fixed. I'd say option one fits best here, possibly using her book of poems and stories as a source. (Which I pilfered from the Goblin Playbook)
  4. I think Goblin Bard works fine. See my post in your character thread for some additional considerations.
  5. Welcome to the game forum! When the application period closes, I'll give all the applications a good looking at to make sure they all work well together. But for now, here are a few quick notes: Make her 16. Only NPCs are younger than 16. I know it is a bit arbitrary, but 16 feels better to me. I like the Goblin racial move, no problem. Regarding Bardic Lore and A Port in the Storm, we'll have to play these by ear a bit, since this is a D&D Cartoon style game and everything in the world is brand new; you've never been anywhere. We have two options here: 1) she could be some sort of fantasy nerd, nerd-troping her way through the world. "How did you know the giant spiders would be afraid of fire? Don't you read? Giant spiders are afraid of fire in like every fantasy novel I've ever read." Or 2) maybe she gets magical flashes of insight to just know things. Do you have a preference?
  6. Gear: (Load = 5 / 9) A well-worn book of poems and stories that is barely legible. 5 Dungeon Rations (1 weight) Leather Armour (1 armour, 1 weight) Dueling rapier (Close, Precise, 2 weight) Adventuring Gear (1 weight)
  7. “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” -- Helen Keller, The Open Door Izzy, Goblin Bard Sixteen, small body, red fiery eyes, wild hair, traveling clothes. Meet Izzy. With her wild curls and mischievous grin, she's the kind of student who always seems to be at the center of some sort of chaos. Izzy thrives on spontaneity and adventure, never one to shy away from breaking the rules or stirring up trouble. As a goblin, Izzy is a small and wiry with a mischievous glint in her eyes and a perpetual smirk on her lips. Despite her diminutive stature, she exudes an air of confidence and charisma that draws people in wherever she goes. Level: 1 XP: 0 Strength 9 (0) Dexterity 15 (+1) Constitution 13 (+1) Intelligence 12 (+0) Wisdom 8 (-1) Charisma 16 (+2) HPs6 (Bard) + 12 (Constitution: 18/18 Armor1 (Leather Armour): 1 DamageDueling Rapier (Precise): 1d6 (precise) Race: - When you use Arcane Arts to increase the next time someone successfully assists your target, the bonus is increased to a +3. Alignment: ChaoticSpur others to significant and unplanned decisive action. Bard Moves: - Arcane ArtsArcane Art When you weave a performance into a basic spell, choose an ally and an effect: • Heal 1d8 damage • +1d4 forward to damage • Their mind is shaken clear of one enchantment • The next time someone successfully assists the target with aid, they get +2 instead of +1 Then roll+Cha. ✴On a 10+, the ally gets the selected effect. ✴On a 7-9, your spell still works, but you draw unwanted attention or your magic reverberates to other targets affecting them as well, GM’s choice. - Bardic LoreWhen you first encounter an important creature, location, or item (your call) covered by your bardic lore you can ask the GM any one question about it; the GM will answer truthfully. The GM may then ask you what tale, song, or legend you heard that information in. (A Bestiary of Creatures Unusual) - Charming and OpenWhen you speak frankly with someone, you can ask their player a question from the list below. They must answer it truthfully, then they may ask you a question from the list (which you must answer truthfully). • Whom do you serve? • What do you wish I would do? • How can I get you to ______? • What are you really feeling right now? • What do you most desire? - A Port in the StormWhen you return to a civilized settlement you’ve visited before, tell the GM when you were last here. They’ll tell you how it’s changed since then. Bonds: TBD
  8. I would like to play a Bard, or alternatively a Goblin, provided the goblin playbook is accepted, otherwise I will have to rethink my character ;-).
  9. I added a brief description. Let me know if you want more.
  10. Yikes! Not sure how that happened. Should be good now. I think. 🙃
  11. Yes I am on Discord! I cannot message you however because I tried to add you as a friend and you are not accepting friend requests.
  12. Great. Thanks, y'all. I think everyone is going to get to play whatever they want without any conflict. , what is your second choice? Just in case. Also are you on Discord? If you want to join the group DM I'm going to create to help keep the game moving, message me on Discord (caystodd is my Discord name) and I'll add you.
  13. Work in progress. Playbook: Halfling Thief (Neutral - Avoid detection or infiltrate a location.) Fred Bullharson was a Tolkien enthusiast since his youngest days. Reading for school was loathsome but he loved those tales of Middle Earth. First it was the majestic and ethereal elves, then the mighty wizards wielding high sorcery, then the haughty Dunedain and later the noble men of the Riddermark clad in shining mail and with flowing braids of gold. But he settled on the humble halflings, diminutive in stature but glorious in courage and never to be underestimated in a tight spot, as his favorites. Some days, he would imagine himself as Fredegar the nigh-invisible, stealing in and out of the lairs of trolls, of dragons, of Balrogs, of even hellish dungeons of Barad-Dur itself, to purloin great magical riches. And sometimes he would in fact pick the lock on the vending machine at the school to get a gratis bottle of Dr. Pepper. But that's neither here nor there. Just a reason why he was in and out of detention. Gandalf may answer to the Valar, but the school cafeteria answered to the Coca-Cola company. Fred looked more or less normal in the real world or rather the modern world for who was to say which was real? Not Fred judging by his grades in Philosophy. Slightly above average height, the characteristic gangliness of a 17 year old boy or young man as he liked to believe he in fact was but he in fact was not. On his head was short, somewhat unkempt blonde hair and nervous green eyes beneath. Fredegar the halfling by contrast was short and stout, a well fed young creature of near the same age. No awkwardness there, with the stubby fingers having impressive dexterity and his eye an uncanny aim. His hair was an earthy brown and in curls and his eyes a matching brown as well. Soft on his feet Fredegar could go unnoticed a welcome trait in a thief it went without saying. Stats Str - 8(0) Dex - 16 (+2) Con - 13 (+1) Int - 15 (+1) Wis - 12 (0) Cha - 9 (0) ----------------------- HP - 19/19 dmg - d8 (+2 with ranged weapons via thief) equipment Load 7/8 - rapier (close, precise, 1 weight) - Ragged Bow (near, 2 weight) and bundle of arrows (3 ammo, 1 weight) - Adventuring gear (1 weight) (5/5) - dungeon ratios x5 1 weight - 10 coins - 3x poison of choice Bloodweed (touch): The target deals -1d4 damage ongoing until cured - leather armor 1 armor 1 weight Thief moves - poison use - find traps ability - backstab ability
  14. First pick is Ranger, obviously, but if someone else wants to play it I could go Wizard.
  15. Despite being a senior she is already eighteen - she was held back a year in Freshmen class due to poor grades. She prefers animals to people, and due to a doctor's note concerning an anxiety disorder is allowed to bring her pet rat Zeus to school with her, and he is always seen either on her shoulder or in her pocket. In the fantasy realm, Madison's features are still recognizable but her shy and anxious demeanor is gone, replaced by fierce, animalistic eyes and a mane of unkempt hair usually concealed by a hood. Her ears are very long and pointy, indicating that she is an elf.
  16. Everything looks good so far. Poke me on Discord when you are done.
  17. Welcome! Posting your characters right here in this forum will be fine. I like everything in one place. Nah, stick to the standard playbook animals. You'll be much happier with an animal companion that can do indoor and outdoor adventuring anyway.
  18. That is the way I understood it—we post in this forum. , if you want me to move her, let me know. Decided to go with a fighter instead of a cleric. I'll try to get my description done tonight after work. ¡No puedo esperar!
  19. Ariana Gonzalez, Fighter Sixteen, lithe body, eager eyes, wild hair, tanned skin Ariana Gonzalez was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis just after her birth and has spent a good chunk of her life in the bed or in the hospital. The crippling illness has left her frail and sallow and frequently in need of supplemental oxygen. Ariana is good in school and loves cooking. In her fantasy fighter form, Ariana is a little taller and much healthier, but still mostly looks like herself. She is, however, unbelievably strong and fast and tough . . . ella es fuerte como un toro. Level: 1 XP: 0 Abilities: Strength 15 (+1), Dexterity 13 (+1), Constitution 16 (+2), Intelligence 8 (-1), Wisdom 12 (+0), Charisma 9 (+0) HPs: 26/26 Armor: 1 Damage: 1d10 (+1 damage, 2 Piercing with Spear) Race: Human - Once per battle you may reroll a single damage roll (yours or someone else’s) Alignment: Good Fighter Moves: -Signature Weapon - Spear, Reach, Hooks and Spikes (+1 damage, +1 weight), Sharp (+2 Piercing), Ornate -Bend Bars, Lift Gates -Armored Gear: (Load = 9) Signature Weapon (3 weight) 5 Dungeon Rations (1 weight) Scale Armor (2 armor, worn, clumsy, 3 weight) Shield (1 armor, 2 weight) 2 Healing Potions Bonds:
  20. I'm interested. Do we post our characters here in the game forum? Also, I'm thinking of applying with a ranger. I'll probably take a cat or a rat as my companion, but I might want it to be a horse. Could I do that? Horse is not a listed companion.
  21. Game Description: Welcome to the Sea of Grass. This game is a Jumanji/D&D cartoon-style of story, in that teens from our world have been pulled into a mostly abandoned, post-apocalyptic-feeling fantasy world as their favorite fantasy characters. Here are some guidelines to keep in mind: 1. You still kinda look like your normal self. You may be a super-fit warrior or have elf ears or be a half-orc or short like a gnome, but the other teens still recognize you as you. 2. You all come from the same high school, so even if you don't know each other, you recognize each other: "Hey, your a kid who goes to my school!" Posting Expectations: I will check the game forum and our Discord DM chat almost every day to respond to requests and comments. And I plan to update about every other day, early in the morning before leaving for work. I am going on a family vacation for five days in about a month, and even if I can't post then, I can update via discord. Players should expect to post about every other day as well. Unless otherwise noted below, we will be playing standard DungeonWorld, using the SRD here: . Moves Adjustments: When you roll Discern Realities, you can also ask any of the following questions: • Where’s my best escape route / way in / way past? • Which enemy is most vulnerable to me? • Which enemy is the biggest threat? When you Read a Person in a charged interaction, roll+Wis. On a 10+, hold 3. On a 7–9, hold 1. While you’re interacting with them, spend your hold to ask their player or GM questions, 1 for 1: • Is your character telling the truth? • What’s your character really feeling? • What does your character intend to do? • What does your character wish I’d do? • How could I get your character to __? On a miss, ask 1 anyway, but be prepared for the worst. Character Creation and Application Rules: 1. Pick the playbook you want to play most (I'm open to considering non-core playbooks so long as the playbook is publicly available for free and keeps the classic RPG character feel). But give some thought to the playbook you would play if you don't have your first pick. If more than one player has the same playbook as their first choice, we'll figure something out. Complete the basic choices on your playbook, but leave your Bonds blank for now. We will fill those in during our first scene. 2. Write a short description of your character, both before and after your transportation to the Sea of Grass. Feel free to include a picture, but nothing excessively cartoonish. 3. Write up your character sheet and post that application in this forum. Include your character name and playbook in the title of your thread. I'll leave this open for a week (until t5/9) to see who is interested. If you posted in the game interest thread and still want to play, you can have first dibs on the game. If you have questions, you can ask them right here in this thread.
