The land rush is on! Sent south by Brevoy, the heroes have the unenviable task of venturing into the infamous Stolen Lands and annexing the territory, facing down monsters, bandits, and worse. It's hard enough to conquer territory—but does a ragtag band of adventurers have what it takes to found and defend a burgeoning kingdom from the terrors of the wild?

The Kingmaker Adventure Path takes the heroes from encounters with mysterious bandit lords and barbaric raiders through the trials and tribulations of developing and defending their new settlement in the notoriously lawless River Kingdoms. Yet when war comes to the Stolen Lands in earnest, it's up the heroes to take up a mystical blade and stand tall against the horrors of man, beast, and strange creatures more dangerous than either...

Into The Stolen Lands

For generations, the Stolen Lands have spanned the southern border of Brevoy. Many attempts have been made to settle them, but to date, none have succeeded, making these 35,000 square miles of wilderness the largest swath of unclaimed land in the entire River Kingdoms. As tensions mount in Brevoy, one of Rostland’s swordlords hopes to change that fact; she plans to issue charters to several groups of adventurers, sending them south into the Stolen Lands to reopen old trade routes and defeat the bandits and monsters who have made them too dangerous to use. By sending free agents south, this swordlord of Rostland hopes to create new allies without sacrificing her own position of power in Brevoy.

Yet as with most complex and brilliant plans, the future holds plenty of opportunities for disaster.

What will your future hold?

This now becomes your story....

Introduction (The Basics)

Rules System: D&D 5e
Theme: High Fantasy Epic, War, Saga, Politics
Starting Level: 1st

“The unreal is more powerful than the real. Because nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it. Because it’s only intangibles, ideas, concepts, beliefs, fantasies that last. Stone crumbles. Wood rots. People, well, they die. But things as fragile as a thought, a dream, a legend, they can go on and on.”
–Chuck Palahniuk

Welcome friends to Kingmaker. This is an AP original designed by Paizo for the Pathfinder RPG but has been converted to be compatible with the 5th edition D&D ruleset. Kingmaker is a high fantasy campaign saga that thrusts the player characters into a unique situation of building their own kingdom and carving out their own niche upon the world.

Before we get into the details of the campaign, I would like to lay out my expectations. Here is what I envision from my players: I am looking for characters with reasons to have a desire to go into hostile territory and work as a team to build a kingdom, good or evil doesn't matter but chaos doesn't work within the group. So, no chaotic alignment will be allowed. This is not the campaign for chaotic evil players looking to betray the other players, loners or free-spirited vagabonds. Those campaigns exist elsewhere and if they are what you are looking for, perhaps you are in the wrong place. This is a campaign about being part of an adventuring group that is bound for great things, and maybe one day, one of you will be able to ssit on the throne of the kingdom you have built. This is what I expect. That said, while you are morally neutral, what I am not looking for is a bunch of murderous-lawless types looking to indulge dark fantasies. I am looking for characters with interesting backstories, who would mesh well together. Characters should be three-dimensional with personality, desires, and flaws. Disagreement between characters should be a natural occurrence based on strongly-held beliefs and philosophies, although they shouldn't derail the game. Knowledge of the Golarion setting of Pathfinder is assumed and should be worked into the character if at all possible. That include deity selection, etc. If you are not familiar with the setting, most information is available online at Golarion - PathfinderWiki and the Library tab for this game has the immediate relative information for this campaign in the Where on Golarion? thread.

Mechanically, this will be standard point-buy with 27 points. I strongly disfavor stat dumps, especially Charisma, without appropriate story justification. I also disfavor gimmicky characters. There is a Character Creation tab that lets you know all the relevant information for building a character for the Kingmaker adventure path.

The posting rate for this game will be an average of three times per week if not more. Some days there will be more posts than others, but this campaign will be run at a leisurely pace. If you do not post once within 48 hours during combat, actions will be taken for you (usually the dodge or assist action). I reserve the right to eject from the campaign anyone who has not posted in a week without prior warning of absence.

I expect players to engross themselves in the roleplaying element and contribute interestingly to the story.

I also travel occasionally, but this rarely affects my posting. I will be taking applications until 02/04/23. I have not decided how many players I will be taking, but the total will be between 4 and 6, depending on the exact needs of the party. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them in the Application Question and Answer thread.

Character Building

What rulebooks should I use?
You can use non-optional rules found in the Player’s Handbook, the Basic Rules, and all the books listed below. If a rule has been reprinted in a newer resource, you must always use the latest printing.

• Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons (FTD)
• Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse (MPMM)
• Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything (TCE)
• Xanathar’s Guide to Everything (XGE)

You may also use the rules found in the following digital publications:

• Elemental Evil Player’s Companion (EEPC)
• Locathah Rising (LR)

Additionally, the following variant or optional rules are available:

• Chapter 6: Customization Options (PH)
• Customizing Your Origin (TCE)
• Optional Class Features (TCE)
• Variant Human Traits (PHB)

(Absolutely no flying races will be allowed)

You need to read all threads in the Character Creation tab before building a character to better understand things about the adventure path that you may want to take into consideration before starting to build a character.

Alignment Requirement: No chaotic.

Starting Equipment: You will start with the basic equipment given to you by your class and background. If you haven't yet read the material in the Character Creation tab, then please do so now as there are custom backgrounds for this campaign that you might want to use. Really, there is.

Ability Scores: Ability scores can be generated using the 27 point buy as featured in the PHB.

Hit Points: Maximum at 1st level, average each additional level.

Backgrounds: Any from the source books listed above or any from the material in the Character Creation tab. Customizing backgrounds is allowed but must be approved by the DM, same with any player built custom backgrounds.

Applications to the Game

Character Submissions: I have included a character thread template in the Library tab if you would like to use it (it is not mandatory). You will also need to start a thread in the Applications tab for your submission. If you have any questions about my rules for character building, any thoughts about character backgrounds, or to request that I review your character then you can do so in the Application Question and Answer thread.

All applications should include (at a minimum)..

Name: (E’erybody’s got one. Your character should too. Last names are not a requirement.)

Character Portrait: (Need a visual representation of your character.)

Race: (Race)

Character Class: (All characters start at level 1)

Ability Scores: (27 point buy.)

Character Sheet: (Link to your Myth-Weaver's character sheet from your character portrait or name.) You don't have to do this if you plan to keep your character thread up to date and have all the relative information in your application thread.

Description/Personality: (Feel free to describe your character (physically) in any terms you wish. When describing your character’s personality, consider the following questions: How do others view you in social interactions? How optimistic is your character? How trusting? How assertive are you when it comes to making major decisions? How conscientious are you about following rules? How empathetic are you? How courageous are you in dire straits? How do you feel when faced by setbacks? How are your nerves?)

Write a basic background for the character: If you’re having trouble - make a checklist first. What was their childhood like? Adolescence? How wealthy were their parents (or guardians), and how were they treated? How long ago did they become an adult (if they have)? What have they done to try and start a career as an adult (if anything)? etc., etc.

Technical Stuff

Application Deadline: FEBRUARY 4th, 2023 midnight CST

Post Requirements: Minimum posting rate of three times per week (If not more)

Party Size: Looking for 4-6 players.

Other Requirements:

  • I want players who give detailed and interesting posts. Not one-liners and blocks of speech text. The rule of three applies here. What is your character thinking, doing and saying.
  • Expect your actions to have consequences. Don't be stupid. Play smart. If I give you lots of hints that opening the box will unleash fiery death. Don't open the box and expect to live.
  • I'm a story teller, the rule of cool applies. If it's cool, cinematic and epic, screw the rules- I'll probably allow it. If this grates against your rules lawyer soul...we are not meant to play together.
  • Unless I tell you otherwise...assume you can play with the scenery to help craft the story.

Questions/Clarifications:

Can I play if I've played part of the Adventure, but not all of it?
I think so long as you haven't been past the first couple of scenes, we'll call it good.

Can I submit more than one character?
No. I'm going to go ahead and limit it to one character submission per person. That being said, feel free to change your character concept as much as you want between now and the close date!

Final DM Note

I know the above is a very, very lengthy process to go through to apply for a online pbp game. I also know that some of you will be turned off by it. Some of you will cringe, but others will pour their heart and soul into their character and create something absolutely beautiful. When I have used this process before in the past it has given me the best roleplayers I have ever seen in a game and also the most committed group of players that are still going strong after multiple years of play. If you are looking for a quick game of fun and just want to slash up some bad guys and do your thing, then this campaign is not for you. If you are looking for more.... then look no further than "Kingmaker".

Please do not hesitate to PM me, call me out on something, disagree with me, ask questions, bite your thumb at me, or anything else you need to do for me to get your application. I don't bite.

  2. There is the DM society. Kingmaker is popular enough, there is a good chance, a DM adopts us.  If we have a party still committed.
  3. Need a DM... and I can't step in for this one.  Don't know the module or own it.

As a bonus action, choose one creature you can see within 30 feet of you. You and the chosen creature can speak telepathically with each other while the two of you are within a number of miles of each other equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1 mile). To understand each other, you each must speak mentally in a language the other knows. The telepathic connection lasts for a number of minutes equal to your sorcerer level. It ends early if you are incapacitated or die or if you use this ability to form a connection with a different creature. TELEKINETIC You learn the mage hand cantrip. You can cast it without verbal or somatic components, and you can make the spectral hand invisible. If you already know this spell, its range increases by 30 feet when you cast it. Its spellcasting ability is the ability increased by this feat. As a bonus action, you can try to telekinetically shove one creature you can see within 30 feet of you. When you do so, the target must succeed on a Strength saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + the ability modifier of the score increased by this feat) or be moved 5 feet toward or away from you. A creature can willingly fail this save.   Nico is starting to feel the effects of the alcohol now.  He's not yet slurring his words, but he comes a little bit too friendly with Linzi, and his last bit of common sense is stopping him from making a mess of Killian effort schmoozing the Halfling.  He excuses himself over the excuse of the need to take care of his basic needs and goes outside to release himself in privacy, behind some bushed ''Aren't they beautifully trimmed...'' he thought for himself as he looks at the hedges around the garden. He comes back inside, the head more clear thanks to the rain and cold temperature.  He decides that he had enough liquid courage to finally engage conversation with the pompous Gnome ''You seem to come from quite an interesting lineage, with those regal clothes and this proud figure of yours.  May you please indulge me with your pedigree, and what makes you really apart from the other blooded adventurers around here like me?  And how you will use your noble advantages to tame this hellish place that is comically named ''The Stolen Lands''?'' he says with a smug face, a bit mockingly.  The next few minutes, he uses his manipulation skills to control the conversation, using the bad character of the Gnome to make him spit more info than he would want to normally let out.  He try to "stir the pot'', but to control the flame.  He never drop his smiling and condescending tone during all the conversation.
  6. Ottokar Pridebrand - Duergar Fighter 1   AC: 16 | HP: 13/13 | Initiative: +1 | Passive Perception: 13 Well, that wasn't working... as the night wore on, Ottokar could not help but think he truly was out of place. Such nicieties were beyond him... there was one, though, who may at least listen... well, two, perhaps, but the noble woman seemed to have stepped up to the imposing barbarian, leaving one other options for the duergar. His surface kin had spoken up, and perhaps driven by a sense of pride he felt a desire to outdo them... "Not many folks here seem to really have much spirit," he said, stepping up to the halfling, "Perhaps legends will be told of things to come, yes. As for me, it's another day. I already fought my way here, see... came from across the Hold of Belkzen! Crawling with orcs, that place is... but with my own two hands I fought here, and down the rivers... survived that, the River Kingdoms... the Stolen Lands? I'll steal them, alright... and I suppose my cousin here will be there too." The duergar flexed somewhat as he spoke of his deeds... leaving out some of the more unsavory portions he thought might not be so good for sensitive ears. Best to focus on the fights, less the pillaging... Mechanics Main Hand: Empty Off Hand: Empty Action:  Bonus Action:  Move:  Manipulate:
  7. Anya Surtova - Human Cleric AC: 13 | HP: 9/9 | Initiative: +0 | Passive Perception: 13 Anya takes a deep breath. The festivities seem to be moving to a relatively satisfactory conclusion. She takes mental inventory of the evening. Managed not to offend anyone too badly. She glances at the dark elf. Hopefully. May even have made some possible allies for later. She surveys the room. The figure of Amiri catches her eye. Ah yes, Otto suggested I speak with her. Seems like the perfect way to wrap up the evening.  Anya walks up, while giving the barbarian woman an appraising eye. "Greetings, Amiri. Otto thought we might both enjoy meeting each other." She smiles over her glass. "You quite impressed him. I was watching your feats of strength. You seem... formidable." Anya's demeanor is playful. This meeting she saved for last for a reason. She knows how things must look from across the room. Her petite frame next to Amiri's brawn. Her silk gown next to rough furs. A study in contrasts.     Mechanics Main Hand: Empty Off Hand: Empty Action: Your action goes here. Bonus Action: Your bonus action goes here. Move: Your movement goes here. Manipulate: Your one free object interaction goes here. HD: 1/1d8       OOC Anya feels like the pressure is off for the evening. Amiri is so NOT a political creature. This is a chance to just meet someone interesting. Persuasion seems the best skill to use to just make a new friend.

He met many new people, as there were apparently several expeditions heading into different regions of the Stolen Lands. Speaking with the leaders of those expeditions, and if the rumours floating about could be trusted, it seemed that some of those regions would be very dangerous. As challenging as the Greenbelt sounds, it seems that it's the breadbasket of the region, and comparatively tame. Killian listened to the hopes and fears of those leaving on the expeditions, and those wishing them safe travels. The banquet waas a joyous event, helping to soothe fears and anxiety for many. Killian spent a few minutes with Harrim and others again, the Priest still teaching everyone in earshot abiut the End of Days. Killian enjoyed the food, and the conversations, but he found himself returning to visit again, with young Linzi. Killian was feeling some sort of kindred spirit in her.  "I hope you've been enjoying the evening Linzi. Have you learned anything new and fantastic? And who are your favorite artists? Who inspires your work? I know, I have drawn great inspiration from ancient Dwarven and Elven masters, myself. Personally, I find Tian influence to be quite inspiring. What are your favorite classic influences Linzi?"  Killian listened to her before adding his own insights.  "Well, it seems that we won the lottery in regions. The Greenbelt might seem a bit tame, a bit boring to some of those mercenary bands, but if a fraction of the legends of the region are true, we stand to uncover many timeless treasures. The history of the region, is fantastic. If we can recover the ancient Elven and Dwarven kingdoms, imagine the songs that will be sung of our triumphs? For thousands of years, bards will tell tales of Linzi and Killian, the heroic chronicles of the liberation and reclamation of the Stolen Lands! Kings and Queens for generations, will owe their crowns, to what we do tomorrow."    Mechanics :  Nicolay providing Assistance. Advantage? 9.    Orchard - Fairy Ranger AC: 18 | HP: 12/12 | Initiative: +2 | Passive Perception: 13 Orchard passes along with observations of Linzi. A little bit of humility, a little bit of self-deprecation makes Orchard feel he's the last person who should speak with the Halfling. If she's indeed looking for who'll be the hero of the Stolen Lands surely it'll be one of the others. The merchants are the ones who trade and sell the right item to the hero, are not the ones whose efforts are praised in story and song. And Orchard feels content with that. Of those guests who still seem cool towards the group, Orchard feels his best chance at a decent first impression is with Valerie. Tartuccio didn't work out well, and Jaethal is more than a little intimidating.  "Greeting Lady Valerie. I am... well, just here to help out a little. With trade. Couldn't help but think the animals will be a part of that. Livestock, companions, perhaps most important horses. Don't suppose you'd have an opinion on that, what you'd recommend and not? Have but a few ideas of my own..." It feels as if the chatter is starting to die down, a relief to the out-of-place young man. Still, successful or not he accepts he's done his best.  Mechanics Main Hand: Empty Off Hand: Empty Action: Animal Handling check with Valerie Bonus Action: - Move: - Manipulate: - HD: 1/1d10 Foe Slayer: 2/2
  10. Chapter 1: A Call for Heroes Part 1: The Swordlord's Feast Orchard spends the next twnety minutes studying Linzi intently, the halfling woman wa intriguing to watch, it was easy to see that the woman was interested in history (DC 13) as it pertained to trading gossip and news about favorite artisand or performers. And it was pretty easy to notice that Linzi is eager to find someone she thinks will be the true hero of the Stolen Lands, and if someone would attempts to influence her by bragging or citing their accomplishments or heroic goals, they would gain an advantage with her (+2 bonus on checks to Influence Linzi) Influence Skills: History DC 13 (trading gossip and news about favorite artisan or performers) Weakness: Linzi is eager to find someone she thinks will be the true hero of the Stolen Lands, and if a character attempts to Influence anyone at the feast by bragging or citing their accomplishments or heroic goals, they gain a +2 bonus on checks to Influence Linzi. Ottokar tried to strike up a meaningful conversation with Valerie but she remained guarded agianst his efforts, and his attempt fell on deaf ears.  She didn't ignore him, but just nodding politely every now and then. Athletics can not be used to influence Valerie. Killian's sudden fascination with Linzi's drawings brought a giggle forth from the halfling as she invited the dwarf to sit and go through her caractures of each member of the party. Linzi, Killian, and Nicolay had a nice conversation about each drawing. It was a nice icebreaker for the bards, one bard to another, and even the sorcerer found the conversation fascinating. Soon it all turned to song as the bard's entertained those around them. 2 influence point earned. Attitude: Helpful Anya tried to conversate with Jaethral after breaking the woman out of her shell but she quickly clamed back up and it quickly became like talking to the dead, the woman barely responded and seemed to lack any interest in the conversation any longer. It seemed Anya was just not engaging enough or did not speak of the right things to her. 1 influence point lost.   The Great Hall 8:40 pm Oathday (Thursday), 24th of Calistril (February), 4710 AR SCENE INSTRUCTIONS HEROES FEAST ROUND 6 of 6 FINAL ROUND During the feast, the PCs have time to chat among themselves or with the NPCs whose table they share. The NPCs described here are destined to become some of the PCs’ allies and enemies as Kingmaker unfolds. The feast plays out over the next two hours, broken into six separate 20-minute rounds. In each round, each PC can attempt to Influence or Discover information about one NPC at their table. For several of these NPCs, influence awards shift the NPC’s starting attitude for determining how they react to the PCs when they next meet. Influence - You attempt to make a favorable impression on an NPC to convince the NPC to support your cause. Choose an NPC, and attempt a skill check of your choice that relates to the conversation to impress that NPC. The DC, and whether success is possible, depend on the NPC’s preferences to the skill check and the type of conversation you are having. You must RP the conversation but please limit it to a paragraph or so and don't bombard them with a ton of questions at once or it could lead to them becoming your enemy quickly. Discover - You watch or study an NPC to learn more about that NPC’s likes or dislikes or how best to influence them. Choose an NPC and attempt a Perception check or an Insight skill check (your choice). You don't have conversation when you discover as you are just observing.   Show NPC's  Amiri Amiri is a tall and muscular human woman, clad in a mix of animal skins, leathers, and battle-scarred hide armor. 11. Anya Surtova - Human Cleric AC: 13 | HP: 9/9 | Initiative: +0 | Passive Perception: 13 Anya watches as Nico and his party friend carouse with the halfling sage. Well, perhaps something will come of that. Maybe they can find what she sees as her role in this affair. Recording history? Finagling a place in one of the other of Lady Aldori's schemes? She ponders a thought. If I were a criminal sort, it might make sense to play the quiet observer, so as to glean some useful tidbits while giving away little. She then realizes that such a description might as well fit herself. She chuckles. Jaethal looks up at Anya's quiet mirth. Anya apologizes. "Sorry, I was observing my cousin's attempts at banter with the halfing sage over there." She points at Nico and Linzi across the room, then grabs another glass of wine from a passing servant. She takes a sip, then again turns her direct attention back to Jaethal. "So, you are looking for a fresh start in a new society. Have you given any thought to what sort of society might be carved out of these new lands? Personally, I've been toying with the idea of something different - perhaps ruled by a council, either made up of prominent figures of power, or even chosen by the people themselves. 17. Chapter 1: A Call for Heroes Part 1: The Swordlord's Feast Killian continued to chat with Harrim at the feast in polite conversation about his faith. Ottokar had excused himself away from Amiri and spent some time watching Jaethal, who sat mostly silent at the table. Not one for much conversation. It was Anya that broke Jaethral out of her shell, if just a little as the intimidating presence of Anya stood next to her and asked her of her purpose. Anya learned that Jaethal was exiled from Kyonin after a tragedy (no details on the specific event), and she hopes to find a place in a new society. A nascent nation like the one that may soon grow in the Stolen Lands is an excellent opportunity for such a fresh start.  1 influence point earned. Nicolay tried to ply his charm toward Linzi as he came in trying to compare her work to those in history to give her some pointers, and while Linzi was polite during the conversation, she was not impressed with the sorcerer's knowledge of history or politics. Linzi cannot be influenced by history checks or politics. Likewise, Orchard tried to speak to Tartuccio but the sorcerer's arrogance and sense of superiority caused him to actually snub the Ranger as if he was way above his station. I don't know about you, but I kinda despise being told what to think. Always have. Some might say I'm stubborn. Some might say I'd have a crown today, if I weren't so opinionated, so willful, so belligerent. I have few things to say to them, fewer still fit for decent company. While I despise being told what to do, I'm not about to run headfirst into a barrel of needle fish just because told me not to." Killian takes a fresh measure of the man before him. As different as they obviously are, how similar might they be underneath? How could one know, if they only listen to the morons of the world?  "On that note. I thought you should know. I don't care what anyone says. I give you the same trust I give everyone else. You honour it or you neglect it. If you honour my trust, you will earn more. If not, not. Seems right to me. The haters can get bent for all I care. You aren't my enemy, unless you choose to be. I hope you'll give me the same chance. We may rely upon each other before this mission is over." Killian meamt every word. He wasn't hear to advance the political cause of one tribe of Dwarves, one House in Brevoy. Especially if they wanted little to do with him. No. His mind was made up. Of those that haven't seemed to be won over as much, and who aren't currently talking to one of his companions, Orchard readies himself to speak with the Gnome.  Speaking in Gnomish, Orchard tries to start things on the right foot. "You seem to be above all of this, whereas I'm admittedly under it all. I'm not sure if that makes us opposites or have something in common. I'd love to know what gives you your confidence." Nico is satisfied of the discussion with Maegar.  They exchanged quite a lot about their knowledge and ambitions, and took great note about his plan for Nomen Heights.  It will be quite useful to maintain communication with him, and help to provide resources and main power between each other as they are developing their settlement.  ''It was quite a pleasure to meet and talk with you, Lord Varn.  I wish you only the best and will keep contact with you.  I'll take my leave.  Cheerio!'' he says to the man, bowing and waving the hand gallantly in front of him, which Maegar responded with a polite nod of the head.  He directly goes toward Linzi.  This bard got his attention earlier, but Killian was already talking with her and he didn't wanted to be the third wheel between two bards discussing their craft a second time in his life - he's here to talk and mingle, not get drunk while they both shows their repertory of songs and stories as a background noise.  He walks toward the small woman slowly, the left arm hand in the back as he studies her before engaging Not my usual style too, but I had to romp with worse... He takes a chair and places himself at her side, smiling as he puts his arms in front of him extended between the legs, the fingers crossed.  His face shows that he's waiting with anticipation that she will accept his offer, with a long smile and round puppy eyes ''Please, indulge me with the pleasure of seeing your work.  I promise that I'll keep my opinion positive, and constructive.'' He tries his best to share his cultural knowledge and opinion about her work, but also indulge her into facts and stories he knows about the notorious people and the nobles reunited at the banquet.

At his insights into Amiri, she raises an eyebrow. "Thank you for bringing that to my attention, Otto." She licks her lip. "She is certainly a fine figure of a woman. I will make it a point to speak to her soon." First things first. No one has approached the scythe wielder yet. She certainly is not making it easy. And she seems on her guard. Perhaps a direct, non-political approach is in order. She leaves her drink on a passing tray. No props, no distractions. She walks across the room to Jaethal. Their eyes meet as she approaches, and she does not flinch. When she stands before the tall Elf woman, she bows. "Greetings, Jaethal. I am Anya Surtova. I lead one of the teams that will venture into the Stolen Lands. I am curious what you see your role here as being. Are you also to venture forth? You seem well-equipped." 22. Ottokar Pridebrand - Duergar Fighter 1   AC: 16 | HP: 13/13 | Initiative: +1 | Passive Perception: 13 The duergar paused for a moment, regarding the barbarous woman and her eying of the woman he'd entered with. Honestly, he hadn't given a great deal of thought to her himself; Anya Surtova was a noble of some sort, and had the bearing of a soldier if not entirely the build he expected, yet she seemed competent enough, for a non-duergar. Amiri's interest, though, was worthwhile to pursue, whatever its cause (and Ottokar couldn't begin to comprehend that; even after the time on the surface he did not understand many of the dwellers ways.)  "She's an interesting one," he said simply, nodding at Anya, "Competent seeming, to be sure. Part of the crew I've been, uh, assigned to, so to speak. If you'll excuse me." He quaffed the remainder of his drink, something rather fruity and enjoyable, and set down the glass. That was one things far superior on the surface; the alcohol of the Darklands was hardly worth admiring, but the surface had a wonderful variety to it. He nodded at Amiri and then excused himself, passing by the orderly woman as he did. "The large human, Amiri, has an interest in you. Might be worthy of a chat, yes?" he said quietly, "Not my place or crowd much, beggin' pardon, but I recognize a fixer when I see one. She and I, we're muscle. Best have all the muscle we can where we're going, yeah?" He waited for her reply before moving on, unsure of who else was even worth speaking with. The others had made contact with most, but few he'd bother to speak with. The dwarf, Harrim, was right out; he already found himself distastefully paired with another of his surface dwelling kin, and that was enough to both rub him wrong and likely get him slain if he wasn't already an exile... much would need to be achieved to avoid that stain. Success was, after all, the ultimate vindication. There was the little one... the girl little one, not the annoying one that reminded him of a far too haughty Svirfneblin, but also the elf woman. Very much unlike the drow he was familiar with. She was a curious one indeed, and he wondered if he had much of anything of common ground with her, intriguing though she was. That, and how many Omens apparently occur every day, which point to the coming End of All Days.     "Priest Harrim, I admit I was less familiar with some of your legends. Would you like to explain in more detail, about the 'End of Days'? Groetus is perhaps not as well known in some circles. I don't like to remain ignorant, once confronted with an opportunity to learn." Killian is sincere in his curiosity at this point, though perhaps unprepared for the obsessive commitment about to be leveled and unloaded in his direction.  Killian will listen closely, and try to remember any historical details that tie into Harris story of legends, religious teachings, and Prophecy.    Mechanics :  INFLUENCE Harrim with   History7   Darkvision 60 ft  Main Hand:  Off Hand:  Horn Action:  ... 24. Chapter 1: A Call for Heroes Part 1: The Swordlord's Feast Killian's conveersation with Harrim turned out to be most pleasant and fruitful and the two dwarves made quick friends at the table. The subject matter was the key to winning over the bald dwarven priest. 2 influence points earned. Anya managed to interrupt the rude words of the gnome Tartuccio and get him to talk about something other than the people seated around the table. Himself. It entirely caught the gnome off guard. "Have you given any thought to which of the Stolen Lands you will lay claim to first?" he was asked by the slightly attractive human woman. The gnome who looked like a steely gnome prince more than an adventurer responded "I do not care to lead an expedition, nor claim anything. I am simply here as an adviser, and to keep these gods forsaken people out of trouble with my magic whenever possible." the conversation wasn't friendly but at least it was a start for something other than rude remarks. 1 influence point earned. To say that Nicolay and Maegar hit it off would be an understatement as the sorcerer found out that Maegar had been and still was a keen student of history and loved to talk about historic subjects. Maegar is impatient to begin exploring the Stolen Lands; he knows he’s being assigned to Nomen Heights and brags about how he’s already got plans for a new village called Varnhold drawn up back at his home. Yet for all his impatience, he remains a friendly, even charming presence at the feast. 2 influence points earned. Maximum influence with Maegar Varn achieved. Orchard had turned his attention to the host of the even, he knew that Lady Jamandi was one of the famed Aldori swordlords and a wealthy and influential woman who was recognized as one of Restov's greatest warriors. But even in her attire for the evening her Aldori dueling sword was close at hand, Orchard heard people asking her about it and how the sword trails magical fire when it strikes. He also heard people asking her about how she used to take jobs as a mercenary which she countered with "those were the old days" or "my focus is now on tending to the needs of her manor, troops, and duties to Restov." Ottokar and Amiri continued to hit it off, although their contest of strengths now more reigned in for the event. Although Ottokar did catch the woman's eyes wondering to Anya on several occasions. And she had even asked Ottokar about the woman. 2 influence points earned.   The Great Hall 8:00 pm Oathday (Thursday), 24th of Calistril (February), 4710 AR SCENE INSTRUCTIONS HEROES FEAST ROUND 4 of 6 During the feast, the PCs have time to chat among themselves or with the NPCs whose table they share. 25. Ottokar Pridebrand - Duergar Fighter 1   AC: 16 | HP: 13/13 | Initiative: +1 | Passive Perception: 13 "So, there I was, surrounded by orcs..." Ottokar chose little more than to continue his enjoyable dalliance with the fellow warrior, though in truth he knew he should likely be seeking to forge other bonds. Simply put, though, he found himself rather out of place except there; recounting tales (only slightly embellished, of course,) of his passage through the Hold of Belkzen was far more enjoyable, playing up his hurling of orcs left and right... in truth, that journey had been far more physically taxing than martially engaged, as it had taken much climbing and swimming and all the like before he reached a place he could secure passage on... "Whatever comes of this quest, I hope at least to make a name for myself with whatever beasts there are... a dragon, maybe! What a story that would make... Ottokar Dragonbreaker..."
