This game is completed. It ran from May, 2023 to February, 2024

A level one adventure for Dungeon Crawl Classics

High above the windswept moors and darksome woods, the village of Hirot is under siege. Each night, as the sun sinks beneath the western mountains and the candles burn low, a devil beast stalks the village streets, unleashing its savage fury on the living. From warlord to pauper, crone to child, no one is safe.

Defeating this monster will require more than mere blades or even spells. Any would-be slayers must delve into the mysteries of the land and its Savage Kings. Only then, armed with relics forged from a bloody past, can the most cunning and courageous adventurers challenge the Hound of Hirot!

  1. What's new in this game
  2. Yep, I've been working on it, but I still have a ways to go.
  3. I cant remember were we offered equipment horses and the 500 GP?
  4. No worries, I still have my recap to do. Plus, there's not really any reason to close it since you guys are the only ones who can post here anyway.
  5. please do not close this board yet, I need to equip Molly and write all that stuff down so when we do start back up he will be ready.
  6. Hey all, i got sick on Friday. I'm sort of back. Sorry for the absence. Between the coughing, snot, and general lack of energy i just couldn't get online this weekend. Had to take Friday off work. Covid test was negative but also expired so i don't think i can trust it. Oh Well. I missed the goodbye post so I'll just say thanks for the game and we'll see you next time.
  7. Okay so here is what she will try to buy before their trip. Crowbar 2gp Grappling hook 1 gp Iron Spikes 1 sp x7 = 7 sp Flask of Oil 2 sp x2 = 4 sp Days Rations 5 cp x20 = 1 gp Thieves Tools 25 gp Total = 30 gp 1 sp x.8 = 24.08 gp or 24 gp and 8 cp
  8. Either way is fine. If you want things in the book just assume they are 20% less in Hirot.
  9. Do you want us to post items we would like to purchase before we leave town or do you want to handle that later?
  10. Ah yes! I knew I forgot something. Each of you gets a riding horse, including tack and enough feed to get you to Punjar (about two weeks worth. A little more than you'd need.)
  11. I hope we are getting horses and at least a few supplies
  12. Have to ask about horses and supplies for the journey. Are we going forward on foot or riding? Don't get me wrong! Thugnar is ecstatic to get the magic axe (and as a player, I am absolutely delighted too!) Just want to be sure I added everything to the character sheet.
  13. It would be 3 silver and 3 copper along with the 83 gold.
  14. Should just turn into 3 silver (plus 3 copper too). I'm not sure where the extra gold piece is coming from. Did we pick that off a huntsman, or come across it somewhere else?
  15. so will the .33 gold translate to a CP by chance? give the extra gold to the church
  16. Ymae brings Molly three vials, each a dose of a strength potion. Each dose will raise his strength to 13 for one hour, but she warns him not to drink all three. If he does, she says the strength will become permanent but that he will "not like it." But there's more! She says the last potion can be rendered safe, but not by her. She tells him to visit the jeweler, Ogo, in Punjar. "Like you, he is more than he seems! But be careful, yes? Ogo will ask for more than gold."
  17. Plate armor is well beyond our budget, unless we're getting a massive discount. The entire reward wouldn't even cover a single suit of half-plate. There doesn't seem to be much to buy, at least in core rulebook. Weapons on page 71, armor on page 72, and miscellaneous equipment on page 73. Are there other supplements that have more options? And lots of the pricing makes me scratch my head. 10' of chain is 30gp? The same as three longswords, or a pony? There's plenty of goofiness.
  18. So, divided up we each get 83.33 gold with 1 gold left over. Now to figure out how and if she will spend it. She might just hang on to it until they get to a larger village/city. See ya'll next time.
  19. Over the next several days in Hirot, you gain a few rewards. The Elder Thegn takes 500 Gold Pieces from the coffers and gives them to you as part of the Jarl's promised reward. He is unable to write a promissory note for 5000 gold, and the Jarl refuses to while in captivity. Whether that reward was ever real remains unknown. Bull Haverson presents Thugnar with an expertly crafted battleaxe called Ruin. It functions as a battle axe +1 and, as a mighty deed, can sunder normal weapons and shields. Only classes that have a deed die can use this effect. To use it, you have to declare the action as a mighty deed and meet the conditions of mighty deeds per the core rules. Apparently, Haverson's father passed the axe to Bull. Bull wanted to hunt the Hound with it but knew he was too old and out of shape. He gave it to Thugnar as a reward for recovering the Wolf-Spear of the Ulfeonar and entrusting it to him. Ogo will ask for more than gold." The smith in Hirot can make most normal weapons and armor and will give you good prices. Plate armor will take a couple of weeks to make, but with the Jarl dethroned, there's no pressure to leave Hirot immediately. That said, it seems wise to leave before the Overseer's emissaries arrive, just in case. And, of course, you've reached second level. Congrats on completing Doom of the Savage Kings! No PC deaths! Very well played.
  20. Father Beacom prays alongside Helge, and so do many of the villagers, kneeling to thank their goddess. "Justicia is with us!" Father Beacom shouts when his prayer is done, and the villagers, who have suffered so much, finally have reason to cheer. The people of Hirot have known loss these last months but have not lost everything. The road that brought all of you to this place was strange, and you don't pretend to understand the meaning of it all, but you are here, and your being here has saved this village. It is hard to know what the future holds. You're still in a foreign land. Your next destination is a place you've only heard about in wild stories. The lives you led until just a few days ago seem distant now, as distant as the lands you lived them in. Here, in this place, you have become something other than what you were: monster hunters, tomb raiders, justice bringers. Now, you have a map and a cryptic note about a sword of power lost to the ages. It's the stuff of tavern tales—gold, magic, and danger. All that lies ahead, but, for the time being, Hirot has peace, and so do you. You've earned the rest. *** We've reached the end of Doom of the Savage Kings. See the OOC thread for rewards. The adventure continues in Curse of the Kingspire.
