Her free hand was still at her side, as though holding the hand of someone no one else could see. She let out a nervous breath, uncertain whether she should be joining this band of strangers in slaying an undead wretch. She had no quarrel with whatever Doru had become, though she still felt that his presence put the rest of the innocent village at risk. She also had little loyalty to this group, other than the fact that her cursed father had traveled with them for a time. And yet here she was, preparing to do battle alongside these people. Tamu heard Nuzha whisper something softly in her ear and she nodded in agreement, gripping the hilt of her weapon. She released another breath, noting that she kept holding the air within, and looked to her side, where a figure stood holding her hand - a figure that no one could perceive but her. "Stay close to me, little one," Tamu asked for the spirit, "I may need your instincts in this goes badly." She felt as much as heard the spirit agree, and a sensation akin to a feather's weight settling across her back and shoulders rippled coolly through Tamu's body. With the ghostly chill still surrounding her, Tamu settled into position alongside the mage Bramzoz, watching as Joliet and Dynaheir prepared to release the monster that had been Doru. Tabletop Action: Grant herself the Tale of the Runaway effect she had been maintaining. Move: Position herself next to Bram. Bonus Action: None Reaction: If Doru manages to close into melee range with her, Tamu invokes the Tale of the Runaway to teleport 30 feet to an open location she can see. If necessary, she allows up to 3 other PCs to ability to do the same, should they desire.

She had been uncertain about the amount of noise and talk that the group had made during their plans at the inn. Even she had worried about being so overt about their intended treasure hunt, wondering if such babble would draw the attention of unsavory sorts - just as fresh cut meat could draw wolves or bears or carrion birds. The woman's hand slowly went to the long blade strapped across her back. Like her orcish companion, Zurana reflexively scanned the concealing foliage on their left and right. Unlike Drezghl, she was hardly subtle about her wary search, clearly looking for anyone foolish enough to lie in ambush against this band.

The bite of the goblin's blade continued to throb painfully, but Kora ignored it, trying to focus on the task at hand. "We were sent to seek your expertise, assuming you are Tatina Rookledust. Our group encountered the Dragon Army at Vogler, where we barely held their forces off long enough for most of the locals to escape. During our battle, we encountered what we initially thought was a dragon of sorts - but it turned out to be some sort of machine or weapon operated by four of the Army's reptilian soldiers. The Marshall thought that your knowledge of such devices could be useful in countering the Dragon Army's use of these weapons in the future." Gesturing casually to the slain goblinoids around the workshop's front lawn, Kora added, "It appears that the leaders of the Dragon Army agree - if they have made efforts to assault your home as well."

"Do I get to be a rich Amercian socialite again?" She multi-tasked as the team pressed on, continuing to scan the garbled transmissions she was receiving. The algorithm should continue to adjust frequency and bandwidth as the group moved, and with some luck eventually those signals would be clear and comprehendible. At least for now, it gave them a vector.

She staggered around the little creature, trying not to become trapped between her foe and the whirling contraptions of the gnome's workshop fortress. For a brief moment, she considered that rushing around one side of the building on her own may not have been the most tactical of decisions - but then she angrily shoved that thought aside, knowing that she can only truly rely on herself and not having time at the moment for self-recriminations. She brandished one of her knives in front of her, hoping to force the goblin to keep its distance as she drew on her magic. She tapped into the cold void around the Black Moon and motioned at the goblin. Lines of ice and frost began to creep over the goblin's arm, swiftly traveling up past its shoulder and across its back and head. Tabletop Move: Shift to H19. Action: Cast frostbite on the goblin. The goblin must succeed a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or suffer the damage rolled below and have disadvantage on its next attack roll. Bonus Action: none

The ordeal in the Dreadwood and the loss of Ereh Kehn had drained her physically and emotionally, and Long Walker warriors knew to listen to their bodies and spirits and recognize when time and rest was needed. So by the time the tall northerner emerged from her room - most of her armor and kit assembled and ready - it appeared that the rest of her companions had already been up for a while. The sound of Drezghl's laughing shout made her smile. She missed the details, but the good nature of her friends was a welcome sound in the morning. She strode over to Kelvan, who seemed to be fussing with some cards, and offered a half-grin. "Are we going gem-hunting as you wished, or has another noble quest interrupted our search for treasure?"
  7. AC: 13 | HP: 21/21 | PP: 15 | Languages: Common, Celestial, Elvish, Infernal Spell Slots: 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 | Current Conditions: None Tamu felt the young spirit she had called shift behind her at the arrival of the strange horsemen. Her hand had shifted to the blade she wore. But then the strangers departed, and Tamu was once again bewildered by the brashness of these folk that had come to Ireena and Ismark. They seemed to have little fear and much conviction - unable to feel the haunted nature of this place. Or maybe it was simply Tamu's own recent tragedies and trials that left her sensitive to darker potential. Nonetheless, she was relieved when the eerie watchers departed. Returning her attention to the ceremony, Tamu found herself with few words to add but she keenly empathized with the sense of loss. She thought of her mother and her sister - and felt Nuzha wrap comforting arms about her shoulders. Though her own father had failed her and was owed none of her affection, Tamu sensed that the Burgomeister had tried in his way to be a good parent to Ireena and Ismark - that much was obvious by their sorrow. She placed a hand on Ireena's shoulder, her words meant for both her hosts. "I'm sorry that he was taken from you sooner than necessary. I hope his memory is a comfort to you."
  8. AC: 13 | HP: 21/21 | PP: 15 | Languages: Common, Celestial, Elvish, Infernal Spell Slots: 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 | Current Conditions: None Tamu's lips became a thin line. She saw the direction the group's thinking was going and silently agreed with the path. Like Bram, she stepped away from Joliet and Dynaheir, both of whom seemed more than prepared to face whatever monster Doru had become. Part of her wanted to retreat to the furthest corner of the rundown parish or even withdraw into the exterior to avoid the unpleasant but necessary event unfolding. But a chiding cry from Nuhza stayed her pace. Instead, she moved to where she could still see the doorway of the side room and the two warriors girding themselves. Her hand dropped to her rapier in anticipation. The voices around her grew louder, more insistent. Now is not the time. I must concentrate. But the clamor continued. Fine. I will hear one of you. Come forth and speak. The air around Tamu grew cold, evidenced by the visible steam as she breathed. She reached out with her free hand, fingers outspread, and after a moment...something small seemed to grasp at her one finger. Tamu could hear the soft, frightened voice, someone who had tried to flee the horrors they saw only to fail and fall. She gripped the ethereal hand gently, keeping the presence close by. Worry not, dear one. I am glad you called to me. Perhaps you will be able to aid us. Tabletop Move: Shift position to one of the two squares just inside the hall from the main church. Bonus Action: Expend a Bardic Inspiration to use her Tales from Beyond feature, summoning a spirit to stand at the ready. Action: Ready. She will cast toll the dead on Doru if he emerges into the hallway (presuming combat).

As the rest were hopefully being distracted by the other warriors and mages, Kora decided that it was best to deal with this lone creature as quickly as possible. Gesturing toward the goblin, she drew the magic that surrounded her and cloaked her from sight. Her eyes turned black and she uttered dark syllables in a empty, evil voice. The words reached out like a physical clawed hand to rake at the goblin's single-minded brain. "The Dark Moon take you..." Kora intoned as the spell tore into the little creature's ego and thoughts. Show this Action: Casts dissonant whispers on Goblin #8. It must make a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or suffer the psychic damage listed below, and then immediately use its reaction to move its speed away from Kora. She was physically weary and mentally drained from the group's ordeal within the Dreadwood - and she was eager to have time to rest and recover. She had sincerely hoped that they would have found the lost woodcutters in time to return them alive, but after enduring the cursed forest, Zurana knew that they were fortunate indeed to have found the bodies. Plus, they had rescued the two Dreadwalkers and returned them to the care of their fellows. Given the dark magic of those woodlands, Zurana was willing to call their quest a success and be satisfied with their good work. When Gelbor handed off the promised payment, Zurana hauled herself from the bar to collect her share from Kelvan. To the dark elf's distinct non-surprise, Zurana left behind enough coin to cover her part of Maria's equal share. While in Zurana's estimation and observation, the young priestess' power had proven less effective than their own friend Lera's faith and magic, Maria had nonetheless endured the same horrors and dangers as the rest of them within the forest - and in Zurana's mind, that was enough to warrant her share of the spoils. With coin in hand, Zurana was happy to offer some to the eager Dhiir. She paid for a hot bath, laundering for her clothing, and cleaning and repair for her armor. Her sword Wolfrazor would be tended by Zurana herself later in the night - with appropriate rituals and prayers that would leave her missing her homeland and her father. She would return to the common room - freshly bathed and dressed in little more than a spare tunic with her red hair wet and loose across her back. She indulged in a decent meal and purchased two rounds of inexpensive spirits - one for herself and one for Ereh. She had considered spending more for the truly 'good stuff' but she dared not insult Ereh's memory with fancy drink when a cheap shot of whiskey would do the job. When the conversation among her companions moved toward their next move, Zurana voiced her willingness to follow the group's preferences and Kelvan's direction. If a quest of gem-hunting was popular with the rest, she would happily follow along. Her vote cast, she indulged in a private room for herself and Lera and bid her friend good night. Tabletop Zurana collects her $300 share and donates $50 to Maria's share. She spends $8 total for a hot bath, laundry service, and armor maintenance. She spends another $20 on a good meal for herself and two rounds of cheap spirits for herself and Ereh's memory. Finally, she'll spend $15 to indulge in a private room for herself and Lera. The two women usually share a room with each other when the group has the coin for it. If Lera insists on splitting the cost, Zurana won't argue - but she's also fine with covering the cost this time.

When signs of human habitation began to appear, Jordan brought her tablet from her pack and linked it to her HUD and tactical comm, joining it with her custom hand sensor. As she and Manny had done early in the mission, Jordan sought out any wireless or radio communications that she might tap into. She also swept her scanners around whenever a particularly recent or interesting sign of human activity crossed their path. As before, she was watching for active comm traffic, unusual energy sources, and motion or heat signatures -- all of which might suggest a direction or the presence of the locals that the group searched for. Tabletop Basically, scanning communication and computer network channels for recent or current chatter. Also, doing periodic scans of the surroundings with her combi-sensor and PESA optics for energy or personal signatures.

Dark moon guide my steps. Enveloped by her concealing magic, Kora made swift and careful haste around the rear of the gnome's building. She was loathe to attack too soon, preferring to let Jaqi and Jonas draw more of the attention. Then she could slip around and flank the goblins with her own magic. Remembering that she was working with a group now, Kora tapped into her mystic connection with Jonas, whispering in his mind's ear with a hollow, echoing tone. "I am maneuvering to the far side of the building. Continue to protect Jaqilenna, and see if Andir can either aid you or join me to mind my back when my spell fades." Tabletop Move: Change position to I-12. Action: Dash to I-18. Bonus Action: none Spells in effect: mage armor and invisibility (concentration).
  14. AC: 13 | HP: 21/21 | PP: 15 | Languages: Common, Celestial, Elvish, Infernal Spell Slots: 1st 4/4, 2nd 2/2 | Current Conditions: None The words of Giselle made Tamu shift uncomfortably, and she reflexively moved her fingers to the three entwined symbols tucked beneath her blouse. Though it was most likely her imagination, she felt a coldness around the little trinkets. Giselle's trust in the Morninglord mirrored a faith she once placed in the Dead Three - but that faith had been misplaced. She wondered how soon before Giselle would be called by her deity to make a sacrifice she couldn't make. Tamu stayed close to Joliet, though she grew more uneasy with Doru's words. Whatever heroic ideals he may have had before, she doubted he possessed much more than the dredges of that morality in his current state. Her gut told her that Doru (or the shade that was left) needed to be destroyed before he could do any harm. But another part of her - Nuzha's voice no doubt - felt her heart torn by Doru's state. There were times Tamu felt life's choices were simpler when she let her anger and frustration direct her decisions. With a sigh, she commented softly, quietly enough not to allow Doru or Donavich to hear, "The man seems maddened by his...condition. I sincerely doubt he would be much use to anyone right now. And offering him blood may give him the strength he needs to think or muscle a way out of confinement. Unless you are willing to kill Doru like the hungry creature he may have become, perhaps the best course is to leave him be, under the watch of the priest. It may not be ideal - it may be delaying an eventual problem - but I don't see how letting a monster regain its strength would do any good to this village."

She chimed in where she thought necessary, adding details about the bandits, plant monsters, general irritations of the Dreadwood, the logging camp, the Dreadwalkers Valyerin and Junior, the owlbear, the loggers found at the base of a mudslide, the terrible 'mad tree' with thunderous power, and the twisted monstrosities that were a local and his dog. It had been a harrowing quest - but the group had returned with the bodies of the loggers and the requested chest and its contents. As the tale-telling wore down, Zurana hoped that Gelbor would not keep them much longer. Best to hasten with what pay Kelvan had negotiated and let the party get some rest.
