  3. I've been around boys all my life, no surprise that I liked things they liked, stands to reason. I was the only daughter in a family with four brothers, all older than me. Family being catholic, the oldest boy in our family, Jaques, or Jack as folks called him, was only five years older than me. My mother ran off when I was two years old, maybe on account of being worn out, from us kids. So, I was left to run wild with my brothers until I was fifteen when my Aunt Estelle came to stay. It was her that put a veneer of the feminine on me, taught me how to dress.. wrap boys around my little finger. It was her that taught me that the worst thing a man could experience was to feel useless, and that it was a woman's role to give him a sense of purpose, his role... which at its fundamental level was making sure his woman was safe. So, I've been a boy's girl, a tomboy, for as long as I can remember. Men are simple, reliable, easy to figure out. Women are like Machiavelli on steroids a lot of the time. Don't get me wrong I'm Machiavellian too, but I see myself in the 'behind every great man' role. It was Aunt Estelle who insisted I get schooled in the big city, raked Papa over the coals about it. "Education is the only thing stopping you from being chattel..", she told me, "So make sure you're grossly overeducated". I had to ask what chattel was. When I found out I decided that would never be me. So, off I went to the Georgia Institute of Technology, one of the best Engineering schools in the US. It's a discipline that even now is mostly male, which suited me fine. In Nursing I'd have killed someone. I wanted to go to MIT, but my Papa was adamant, I go somewhere where we had family. My second cousin, once removed, was in Atlanta. Her husband was vice-president of a machine factory there, making engines and tools of production companies. I argued that a company full of men could be risky. Papa just laughed and said "..they'd be taking their lives in their hands' and said that I wouldn't have to wait tables for some extra cash. So, there I was studying Electrical and Electronic Engineering by day and working part time with lathes, grinders, you name it. I got enough to get a car, which.. surprise, surprise.. I got cheap and fixed up.. with a little help from my boyfriend at the time, Emilio, good catholic boy.. 6'3'' and a Ju-Jitsu trainer... makes you feel safe. I graduated and while I was vaccillating about going home or not. I'd just got an offer from a robotics company but then I got the call. The family business was having to relocate a lot of the growing space, for reasons related to law enforcement, and it was every hand on deck. Family comes first. I returned home, pining for Emilio. I didn't pine long. Home was where I met Patrice, a friend of my brother Jacque's from his time in Louisiana State Police SWAT. I know.. my brother in SWAT, go figure. Patrice was like something out of the song Copperhead Row. His family had been bootleggers a generation or two past. He too was six foot and then some. Soft spoken, impeccably mannered with a gentlemanly air, he came across as a man from an earlier generation... called me Ma'am for the longest time. Funny thing, he was from Atlanta, and we lived about a mile from each other when I was at school. Strange world isn't it? Anyway, Patrice joined the the family when we got married.. he was already in the family business. Back home I got some looks from the girls at the class reunion. They seemed to think I was towing the patriarchal line, a traitor to feminism. Truth be told with Papa getting older it was me that was running the business. Jaque either listened to me, or when I knew he'd balk, I talked to Patrice and Patrice would talk to Jacque and sure enough Jaque would come to me for a second opinion. So, I brought the business into the 21st century. I was studying chemical engineering at that point in lieu of a phd or a career. It wasnt so bad. When the shit hit the fan Patrice did what he knew his duty was, which was to keep me alive, even if it cost him his life to do it.. which it did. He did his job and I failed in mine. My job was to make sure whatever fight he got into he'd win. It was my responsibility to keep him alive.. make all the right moves. So I'm in mourning and afflicted with survivor guilt, not that I'd change places with him, has me waking up in a cold sweat. I don't have a man in my life at the moment and when that's the case I don't do well. You know the joke, the best way to 'get over someone' is to 'get under someone'. In my case it's true. Don't get me wrong.. I'll always love Patrice, but life goes on. I keep his wedding ring on a silver chain around my neck. So, he'll always be with me.

Then, within the space of a breath or two, she closes her eyes. When she opens them again her eyes are once more their usual irridescent blue. She grins girlishly, knowing what she looks like when she does this... "I know more now..", she purrs, clearly cloaked in confidence.
  7. Tanith, looks up and around, as she is engulfed in silence. She's not discomfited, knowing that with haste still in effect she can simply move out of the radius and cast. She would have liked to have shouted at Mizzi to channel, but the silence had comprehensively put the khibosh on that. Shrugging she simply moves east humming. When she passes Baran on the way to the window there, fully prepared to shift out the building if need be, she exits the silence spell, so doesn't need to. Grinning broadly at Baran, she raises her hand and looses three magic missiles downrange towards all three standing opponents. The undead thing next to Rand is hit with a magic missile and comprehensively face planted. The one Yuki is backing away from and George is advancing on is hit as well, though whether goes down remains to be seen. The one at the back, currently unengaged, is hit and face planted as well. Tanith offers the room a courtly bow, clearly having fun.   16. The assembled villagers collectively scowl at Heva's words, giving the distinct impression that they would rather Kai turned around and went back to where he came from. This does not then manifest as curses or imprecations however, so it's not all bad. What's clear to the newcomers is that Heva, Torren and Raziel's words carry a great deal of weight with the general populace. One small group appears less hostile.. a small family of goblins; father, mother and four kids.
  17. For formatting text, I go with Bold for normal speech. I go with Normal text for whispering. I go with Italics for whispering.
  18. To avoid a shitstorm of some people assuming they were on the same ship and some folk assuming they were not, I left this in the hand of the PCs themselves. Personally, I didn't see a lot of value in adding 'before the beach' details. Keen to avoid DM overload by handling minutiae that doesn't add value to the story, I just didn't handle it. You are free to make up anything reasonable about your life before the island, but I'm not going there.
  19. I am choosing to wait until a few other PC few actions have been resolved. I've posted quickly up till now and it didn't end well. As soon as I've seen two other PCs acting, I will post. I am not greasing up another PC whose subsequent actions then invalidated my action. Sorry, but the PC is 1st level and just don't have enough spells to do that.

"Well in a long fight, I fling acid, good against enemies and won't burn the place down, but it's short range." "I can create a 15' long fan of brilliant light which can knock multiple enemies unconscious, providing they are within the fan and looking my way.. some folk get lucky though.", she declares, shrugging at the role of luck in these matters in an 'it is what it is' gesture. "I can prevent people coming through a doorway, or charging at us by placing a mat of slippery grease on the ground. It's in the form of a 10' by 10' square. I've seen enemies flail about in them over and over. It's useful when we're being threatened with a fight on two fronts simultaneously." She pauses for a moment and grins a little cheekily.."Now, if these spells are ineffective, I do not forget them but can cast them again.. I skip back to when I still had the spells and so do not lose them. This gives me somewhat more endurance in a fight than a wizard of my rank. This was a choice I made such that I can never have a familiar." Gesturing to her gown.. "I can cover myself in magical armor. I can move from one place to another with a thought, it's just a 5' jump, but it allows me to move back into the cover I've just stepped out of to cast a spell. I can do this several times a day." This explanation, skirting the line between explanation and boasting comes to an end with a grimace.. "My weakness is my melee skills are atrocious and even if I were, by some miracle, to make contact, I'd inflict little more than a scratch. I do not have a crossbow, more's the pity. I never really needed one until now and now don't have the cash to buy one. That means I can't attack from a distance greater than say 30' or so." She opens the cover of a satchel on her shoulder. This reveals a small collection of alchemical vials.. "I know alchemy, but am no bomb lobbing alchemist. This means I come with alchemist's fire, which I, or anyone else, can use if things get desperate. Should we come across something that needs silver to wound, I can also assist." "I am reasonably stealthy, reasonably perceptive but can see in total darkness. I don't feel cold, which accounts for the light dress I currently wear as well as my previous survival in a frozen gutter in winter... I also shake off acid and electricity. This I know from my alchemical endeavors." Half smiling, she concludes with.. "If we continue as a company, I will be the company's source for alchemical weapons. When I've honed my skills but a little I will be able to produce alchemical weapons and medicines for next to nothing. Also, when I was in Absalom for my training I learned how to bend the items of other disciplines to my will. I am no master at this, but it is just a question of time.. and survival, until I am. Seeing to the central truth of things, Magdh's gift to her students, will aid me in this, in the future."
