The sword student opened the curtains and windows to let fresh air and light in as she selected her wardrobe for the day. Running her delicate fingers along the fabrics and enjoying the finer ones, but knowing the sturdier ones were more appropriate for todays dueling lessons.   For a moment Danica closed the curtains again to take off the socks and shirt she slept in that hid her scarred feet and burn marked left shoulder. They weren't particularly ugly scars, but unlike the ones from dueling she couldn't be proud of them. Danica couldn't even remember when she got those wounds, every time she tried she only recalled fear and pain. What she knew is that for as far as she could think back she was afraid of fire. She was incredibly glad for magical lights and magical aid to manage her fear.   After getting dressed in her fanciest sturdy pants and shirt Danica took her brush and ran it through her butter blonde hair until it laid in waves on her shoulders as she liked it. Her eyes blue like the midsummer sky smiling back at her through her mirror when she was satisfied. Just because she was far from the best duelist at the school didn't mean Danica couldn't at least look the part. Ready for the day she got her coat and sword. Her violin, the only instrument she had actually gotten good at. Maybe it was because of the bow she could swing with her sword-hand, just like her paintbrush. Initially she had thought she could put the memories and feelings that she couldn't put into words onto a canvas, but she found she loved painting many things. Flaws: I am terrified of flames Background Feature: Aldori Dueling Swords proficiency An Aldori dueling sword is a slim, single-bladed dueling sword with a slight curve and a sharp, reinforced point. It deals 1d6 piercing damage if used as part of a duel wield with another Aldori dueling sword (cannot be duel wielded with other weapons), OR deals 1d6 slashing damage if used one handed with no other weapon, OR deals 1d8 slashing damage if used with two hands. No matter how it is used it is counted as a finesse weapon. An Aldori dueling sword is an advanced one-handed melee weapon and can only be used by a character with this background. BACKSTORY Danica's second life began one sunny morning when a former soldier turned bodyguard named Miroslaw Orrel went to the market and was bumped into by a young, dirt covered girl. Instantly Miroslaw knew she had snatched something from him, but it wasn't his purse that had gone missing instead it was the fish he bought not long ago. Her stumbling walk made his pursuit easy and soon he cornered her in a dead end alley. Once he got a better look at the child he noticed through the rags she wore that she looked malnourished and curled her toes as if she didn't want to walk on her soles. However what held his mind for a moment is that the young blonde girl with the defiant blue eyes reminded him of his own daughter that he lost so many years ago when he decided to be a soldier no more.   In a moment of reminiscence he threw the girl a dagger from his side and drew his sword "If you want this meal, you'll have to fight for it.", like when he taught his daughter to wield a sword. The girl eyed Miroslaw defiantly, picked up the dagger and came at him but was quickly disarmed and knocked back. She got up, grabbed the dagger and tried again with the same result. Miroslaw could easily see that she did not know how to fight, but she had the spirit to not give up. So when she tried a third time he knocked her unconscious instead of just down, to take her to a healer and get her feet looked at. Since she actually got the fish she had fought for and Miroslaw promised to give her another each day for fighting with him.   Over the following weeks she warmed up to the idea of staying with him permanently and over some months her fencing improved and as her feet healed her posture and stance became proper. Miroslaw had tried to find out who Danica had been before, but with her not remembering anything and the hints being nonexistent he was rather sure he wouldn't find out. Only later did he share with Danica what he could find, which was that she had a piece of a banner on her when he found her and that a Rogarvian manor had burned down a while back. Formally Miroslaw gave her the name his wife always wanted to give their second child if they had one, Danica, but he kept using a nickname he had given her early on. Bosu, it meant someone who ran around barefeet.   When Danica had grown up to a more mature young lady her foster father found himself at an impasse of what he could teach her. Miroslaw had always been a strong man and learned to fight in his soldier times. To give her a chance at more he asked his employer for a loan and sent Danica to the Aldori Academy in Rostov, his only stipulations were that she always give her best and write him a letter every two weeks.   For how amazing the Aldori Academy was, Danica quickly learned that she was far from as skilled as she thought herself to be and there was more to learn than to swing a sword. She rather fancied the magical and musical bardic arts that one could study, as it offered her possibilities to make life a bit more convenient and to deal with her fear of fire. While she initially attempted to hide her fear of fires, other students soon found out and Danica learned that while Aldori Duelists were taught to utilize weaknesses to their advantage, it was frowned upon in duels that were supposed to prove ones swordsmanship.   When the word of a campaign into the stolen lands to fight bandits reached Danica's ears she immediately applied to prove herself and boost her reputation.  
  7. I am contemplating of picking the bard class for my character but also wanted to ask. Can one of the bard's 3 instrument proficiencies be traded for a tool proficiency? I am thinking of painter's tools or weaver's tools.
