Her eyes would lose focus for a moment as the phrase echoed in her mind, her face twisting into a sour expression. Thankfully, Varon stepped in to speak for the party in expressing their interests. While Sarai struggled to expel the thought from her head, Zila would flit into the room and land on her master's knee where she sat, the little hummingbird inching her way closer to dip her little tongue into the crab cocktail sauce. The presence of her familiar helped shake the young elf maiden from her reverie. She would smile and set her plate where it was more easily accessible to her faithful companion before turning back to the group. The light meal stimulated her appetite noticeably, but she tried to stay focused on the topic at hand. Humored by the curious look this young noble gave Shade, she would hear the full depiction of events before contributing anything herself. When Skold moves to speak with the guards, and seeing the others quietly waiting, she finally responds. The eye is the gate, hmmm.... It's good that we give the Lady her space and a chance to grieve, yes, but the presence of Evening Glory here complicates things. The term "love after death" is used in reference to that deity, and some take that to mean undeath, yes. We're concerned that the Lady may not be in the best state of mind, now, and may be more susceptible to these emissaries' overtures, including potentially convincing her to raise her dead relatives. Of course that is a less than desirable outcome, so it would be good to confer with the Lady at her earliest convenience. If something nefarious is going on, someone may need to intervene. She would look to Varon, since he was effectively their local guide and would likely know who the proper authority was, before returning her attention to the food. Two days immersed in her research while eating little and a light breakfast this morning had left her with quite an appetite after their trek across the city, which she hadn't realized until she'd started nibbling. Upon arrival, she would take a moment or two to breathe in the air, surveying the landscape as they made their way into the manor. She would notice how leaving the chaos and bustle of the city behind them in exchange for this serene setting seemed to have served the big warrior as well, as he stood tall once more. She would trust Varon's, or rather his Lordship's, assertion that the Lady's house guests were tied to recent events and as such might have useful information. It would be good not to go in blind when potentially dealing with a death cult. She would smile graciously when the two humans arrive and listen attentively to their introduction. Humans sure do talk a lot. I suppose when you live three generations in only 100 years... She would dismiss that line of xenophobic thinking, though, and instead focus on absorbing the names and titles presented, and human nobles seemed to have just as many as those of any other race. Her raven tresses spilled down past her petite shoulders like a midnight waterfall onto a canvas of lace and satin finery, bringing the deep blues and purples of the fabric to life. The violet hue of her skin shone more vibrantly in contrast; her ice blue eyes seemed more intensely ice blue. Clearly, she was well suited for this environment. Her gaze would linger on Doallyn only briefly as she introduced herself before she turned her attention to his betrothed. While the two men discussed religion and current events, she would sit quietly with Racanna, realizing it was painful for her to speak and so not pushing the conversation. Once through the gate, she bears herself up well under the guards' scrutiny, only speaking again when their group is approached by an excited, desperate old man. There there, sir, she says calmly, deftly intercepting the man's hands in hers when she sees the consternation on Varon's face, it will be alright. We will help her. She smiles warmly at the man.
