PC Gwydion Black Human Rogue 5 AC: 17 (Studded leather and dual wielding) | HP: 33/33 | Initiative: +5 | Passive Perception: 15 | DM Inspiration: 1/1 Gwydion regards the halfling as he makes his case, then watches as each of the Manticores makes their opinions known. He sighs as he regards the halfling, then says, "You may be an honest fellow. Either way, I'll tell you what I think. This has the odor of a scam. I swear, my friends used to run a similar scheme when I ran the streets, though they had a broken stick they claimed was a wand. If this feather is safe in your grandmama's clutches and you're an honest fellow, that'll be grand. I'll name you the most honest man I've met for the rest of my days. "On the other hand, if this is a plan to part us with your gold, then I recommend you consider if the cheese is worth the trap. We kill people for a living." He nods over at Harder. "Some of us even consider it a perk of the job." He holds the halfling's gaze and lets that sit for a moment before continuing. "With that in mind, I'll contribute a share of gold to the cause. It'll only go to wine and the cards, otherwise." Mechanics Main Hand: Rapier Off Hand: shortsword Action: Bonus Action: Move: Manipulate: Your one free object interaction goes here.

What they said. In addition, I find you to be offensively stupid. As a criminal of some experience myself, your burning of such a valuable item for no particular reason, especially as it was going to be used to repay you, is entirely too idiotic to be tolerable. I must ask you to leave or I shall have to get the management involved." He smiles. "After you pay our halfling friend, of course." 5. PC Gwydion Black Human Rogue 5 AC: 17 (Studded leather and dual wielding) | HP: 33/33 | Initiative: +5 | Passive Perception: 15 | DM Inspiration: 1/1 Gwydion preferred to think of himself as professionally dishonest, meaning he would steal for a job or worthy cause, but not just for the fun of it. It was a fine moral line and perhaps one that only he could see, but it was one he had decided not to cross. As a result, when the high price of such easily concealable and transportable goods is discussed in public, his first instinct isn't to look toward the buyer and seller, but to scan the rest of the room. The tavern was a popular spot and all kinds might found drinking the ale here. The odds were good that other thieves were present, certainly with a less strict moral code than his own. He scanned the other patrons, looking for those who might have overheard the conversation and were considering enriching themselves at the halfling's expense. The light-fingered swordsman rose and walked over to the booth where the rest of his party gathered. He put a hand on Baldur's shoulder, smiling at the dwarf, before talking to the halfling. "May I make a suggestion? Rather than entering the running for this fine piece of merchandise, why don't you hire us instead? I would not normally criticize, but you've discussed the worth of this lovely feather loudly in a public place. I have little doubt you've attracted some dangerous attention. You might need a few guards before you're tucked up safe at home with your bag of gold." He looks around at the others. "And it might be the start of a profitable relationship for both of us. As my friend says, we are a source of monster bits, if you are a regular seller." Gwydion gestures grandly at the assembled party. "Allow me to introduce The Manticores." He leans over to Egg and mutters quietly, "That is what we agreed on, was it not? I confess I lost track a bit." Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses either of the chosen proficiencies. At 6th level, you can choose two more of your proficiencies (in skills or with thieves' tools) to gain this benefit. | Sneak AttackBeginning at 1st level, you know how to strike subtly and exploit a foe's distraction. Once per turn, you can deal an extra 1d6 damage to one creature you hit with an attack if you have advantage on the attack roll. The attack must use a finesse or a ranged weapon. You don't need advantage on the attack roll if another enemy of the target is within 5 feet of it, that enemy isn't incapacitated, and you don't have disadvantage on the attack roll. The amount of the extra damage increases as you gain levels in this class, as shown in the Sneak Attack column of the Rogue table. | Thieves' CantDuring your rogue training you learned thieves' cant, a secret mix of dialect, jargon, and code that allows you to hide messages in seemingly normal conversation. Only another creature that knows thieves' cant understands such messages. It takes four times longer to convey such a message than it does to speak the same idea plainly. In addition, you understand a set of secret signs and symbols used to convey short, simple messages, such as whether an area is dangerous or the territory of a thieves' guild, whether loot is nearby, or whether the people in an area are easy marks or will provide a safe house for thieves on the run. | Cunning ActionStarting at 2nd level, your quick thinking and agility allow you to move and act quickly. You can take a bonus action on each of your turns in combat. This action can be used only to take the Dash, Disengage, or Hide action. | Uncanny DodgeStarting at 5th level, when an attacker that you can see hits you with an attack, you can use your reaction to halve the attack's damage against you. | Fancy FootworkWhen you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you learn how to land a strike and then slip away without reprisal. During your turn, if you make a melee attack against a creature, that creature can't make opportunity attacks against you for the rest of your turn. | Rakish AudacityStarting at 3rd level, your confidence propels you into battle. You can give yourself a bonus to your initiative rolls equal to your Charisma modifier. You also gain an additional way to use your Sneak Attack; you don't need advantage on the attack roll to use your Sneak Attack against a creature if you are within 5 feet of it, no other creatures are within 5 feet of you, and you don't have disadvantage on the attack roll. All the other rules for Sneak Attack still apply to you. RACIAL TRAITS Skill proficiencyYou gain proficiency in one skill of your choice. - Perception | FeatYou gain one Feat of your choice. - Dual wielding: You master fighting with two weapons, gaining the following benefits: You gain a +1 bonus to AC while you are wielding a separate melee weapon in each hand. "I think our wizard likes to wander," Gwydion says as Ky meanders over to the occult dwarf. "My father was the same way. Wise to keep an eye on her, is my experience. Tend to wander into trouble as often as not. But, you can't stop 'em wandering."   He leans back in his chair. "We could just set up shop here. No rent to pay, but we'll have to stay up to date with our bar tab. Anyway, people would always know where to find us and it would be... Discreet. They're not here to deal with us, just have a friendly drink, eh?"       Mechanics Main Hand: Rapier Off Hand: shortsword Action: Bonus Action: Move: Manipulate: Your one free object interaction goes here.
  8. Ok, I didn't get that at first. So, in other words, there is someone who is actively preventing our group from being licensed? And we need a noble to vouch for us so we can overcome that barrier.

He claps appreciatively as Baldur and Egg both land with varying success. He speeds his steps as it's his turn and he approaches the door, sweeping off his hat and attempting a fancy flying flip, trying to outdo Harder. Unfortunately, his heels get caught in his cloak and he only avoids falling on his head by folding nearly double, his toes landing just beyond the line. "Bugger. Only a small beer?" He straightens and grimaces. "I think I pulled something in my back."   "A headquarters might be a good idea..." He smoothes his mustache thoughtfully as he follows the others up to the bar. "We need a place for meetings and so people can find us, at any rate. I do wonder at the difficulty we face in becoming legitimate. 10. I like the Manticores. It's straightforward and sounds cool.   I thought at some point in the set up stuff it said we need a noble family to sponsor us to legally act as an adventuring party. @bwatford, did I get that wrong?   So, no offense against Baldur's family, but I think we need an actual noble?

He flips it and rolls it between his fingers, entertaining himself with the glitter. He tips his hat to the halfling family and follows his companions out. "Valorous Venturers..." He considered the name. "Bit hard to say, if I'm honest. I've heard worse ideas, though."   He nods at Baldur's suggestion. "I nominate a pub as the place of our discussion and disputation." He flicks the coin up into the air and catches it on the way down. "First round's on me."    As they head on their way, he wonders aloud. "So, we do still need to get a patron to be entirely official, do we not?" He looks at the signet ring on his finger and buffs it against his jerkin. "I'd offer to do it, but... 17. Silas Lostwoods - Anti-Necromancer Name: Silas Lostwoods Character Concept: He was raised by a cult of necromancers, but escaped when the forces of Light raided their hideout. Now, he spends his time hunting down others who seek to abuse the living and the dead. Race, Background, Subclass Class: High Elf Soldier, War Mage Wizard Description: He is a high elf, judging by his pointed ears and superior expression. However, where high elves typically have light and lovely hair, his hair is lank and dry. It's also an unlovely dishwater gray in color, unusual for a people who don't truly age. In any case, it's usually tied in a loose tail behind his head. Elves are rarely physically imposing, but his frame is square and filled out with lithe muscle, not a sunken-chested scholar but someone with physical training. His clothes are neat, but plain in dark green. The quarterstaff in his hand isn't a support, but shows scrapes and chips - it's been used as a weapon, regularly. Origin: No world in particular. Your Character’s Plothook: Silas heard of mists out of which undead were coming. He entered the mists to find their origin but was separated from his companions and became lost. He eventually wandered out of the mists and into Falkovnia. Past is Prologue: Silas wasn't raised among elves but by a necromancer and his cult of followers. Their plan was to raise an army of the undead and take their revenge. Silas was raised to be a living officer in their undead army. However, before they could launch their plan, their compound was raided by paladins and clerics of Light. Silas struck the blow that killed the necromancer, rebelling against his masters. As a result, the clerics decided he had earned a chance at redemption. Since then, he's been looking for a chance to combat the undead. When he heard of strange mists nearby, he joined several of the clerics and paladins that originally rescued him to investigate. Truths, Rumors, and Lies: The necromancers laid spells of loyalty and command on Silas, which he was eventually able to break. Still, he can't help but wonder if there are still spells lingering in his mind, waiting to force him to do the necromancers' bidding. The clerics told Silas that all of the cultists were killed in the attack that freed him. But, when do necromancers ever stay dead?   There are rumors that the necromantic cult that raised Silas practiced cannibalistic rituals. Silas hasn't confirmed this, or mentioned whether he ever took part. Some have said that spirits hover around Silas, lost victims of the necromantic cult. They urge him on in his task, hating necromancers more than he does. Some say they aren't just victims of the necromancers; they are Silas's victims, struck down when he still served the cult. Only once he has satisfied the lost spirits will they leave him be.   Include at least two of the following in your application: Deity: Sarenrae. [Redemption and consequences are what he's all about.] Is Might Right? Laws and codes are wonderful things. After all, Silas is only alive now because the clerics who rescued him had such deep faith in their code of beliefs. However, it seems to him that it always comes down to someone making people do the right thing. And asking nicely rarely does the trick. Connections:  Mother Abigail of the Angry Doves - A cleric of Sarenrae who became Silas's mentor after his rescue. Sir Henry Clarke - This jolly paladin originally spared Silas's life in the fight with the necromancers. Silas still considers himself in Sir Harry's debt. Cinderborn - A sorcerer in service to Sarenrae who argued Silas should have been executed with the other necromancers and remained suspicious of him.   Note: Just to say, I understand that he looks like he should be the edgiest of edge lords to ever lord over an edge. However, that somehow did not occur to me when I was putting him together. I was just trying to come up with someone who really hates the undead, and that's what my brain presented me with. I don't really intend to play him as offensively edge-lordy, if you see what I mean.

It obviously did that, but I wonder if it produced a spider first, hm? It is as well to be on our guard."   His eyes widen as a tremendous, shadowy bird appears nearby and he briefly raises his weapons to face it. After a moment, he controls his reaction and attempts to seem relaxed once more. "A little more warning next time would be lovely."   The swordsman steps forward beside Egg, joining him to scan the ground for traps. "Killing the manticore while it's trapped is the way to go, I agree. "Whichever is needed, just wake me."   The others focus on the halfling girl, and Gwydion follows them. He seems amused by the possibility that this is their quarry. "Do you think it's her? Oh, that would be hilarious."   While attention is focused elsewhere, Gwydion wanders by the innkeeper and discretely flashes several hand signs at him, learned during his time as a thief and vagabond.   Mechanics Main Hand: Empty Off Hand: Empty Action: Your action goes here.
