About Me

DungeonMasterJeffEasley.png.f1bea0561d37b2d101ee16705312013f.pngHello, I'm Cai, an evil GM who has been playing since I got the Red Box for Xmas as a kid. I like rules-lite systems and challenging dungeon crawls, but if my group is into more role-playing and story and doesn't mind remembering the details, I can do that, too.

I primarily run OSR games because I like the classic D&D experience and because there are so many exciting adventure writers in that space. Game systems I lean towards include Basic Fantasy (for any B/X compatible content), Castles and Crusades, OSRIC, Swords and Wizardry, and Dungeon Crawl Classics.

I used to play a lot of Pathfinder, but then I burned out on 500-page rules tomes and endless character optimization. While PF2E seems like a very well-designed system, it also seems like a bit much. I haven't found that big rule systems make RPGs more exciting or fun.

I love indie companies and I think the best adventure writers are in that space right now. Harley Stroh, Jacob Flemming, Brad Kerr, and Anthony Huso are all writers I'm following as of 2024.

If you're in any of my games, expect a challenge. While I don't actively set out to murder your characters, I believe that a great game maintains a lot of tension and that the best way to generate that is via the real possibility of character death. While I think everyone gets attached to their characters, and I believe that to be a good thing, in my games, you should accept that you might lose one or two. If you're willing to roll up a new PC, I promise I'll get you back in the game ASAP.

I like players who think through the scenario rather than looking for an answer on their character sheet.

I believe that exploration is the most important pillar of adventuring.

If you like to sit around passively while the GM spoonfeeds you the adventure, you won't like my games.

My games are open to everyone, and diversity adds to any group. All that I ask is you keep up with me. I usually post on my games multiple times, Monday - Friday, and I like players willing to do the same. I usually don't post on weekends.

CAMPAIGNS AND ADVENTURES I'M CONSIDERING RUNNING

Title System Concept
Echoes in Eternity BECMI An exploration of the depth of the Mentzer Basic version of Dungeons and Dragons. PCs would grow in power, take control of a realm, and guide it through war before facing a destiny that will shake the foundations of the world.
Unnamed Campaign Castles and Crusades Castles and Crusades seems like a solid system, and I'd like to run a campaign for it at some point.
Rappan Athuk Swords and Wizardry or OSRIC An Orcus-Themed megadungeon for players looking for a tough challenge
Gradient Descent Mothership PCs explore an android factory run by a powerful AI in this acclaimed science-fiction/horror campaign.
Marvel Action Hour Marvel Super Heroes A retro superhero game set in 1980s Marvel Universe.
"New OSR" short campaigns Basic Fantasy There is a lot of innovation going on in the OSR space right now and there are some exciting new short campaigns like Hideous Daylight, Temple of 1000 Swords, and In the Shadow of Tower Silveraxe that would be great for PbP. Because of their manageable length, I'm more likely to run these games than some of the others on this list.
Pellucidar Amazing Adventures This pulp adventure campaign is set in Edgar Rice Burroughs' Pellucidar, a prehistoric world hidden in the Earth's Core.
Unknown PF2E Game Pathfinder Second Edition Although I'm mostly a rules-lite kind of guy, I've heard a lot about how mechanically elegant and balanced PF2E is. Maybe I'll give it a shot, sometime.
The Undying War Castles and Crusades C&C has an absolutely huge adventure path that would take, well, forever to run in PbP. It's gone by various names but has recently been rebranded as The Undying War. C&C is a great system but the adventures are pretty vanilla. Still, this could be a fun campaign with a good group and some emergent storytelling.
I6 Ravenloft OSRIC (AD&D) I've never run Ravenloft, and I might need to remedy that.
