Before I (finally) post, can Helena get an idea of the progress of the ship duel that's also happening? I guess Pieter is the main problem right now, but I don't wanna fight pirates yet while dealing with him

Sorry for my late reply, but I've had a weird last few days!

 

Regarding the ghost ship duel that only Helena can see: as far as she can tell, neither ship is winning the duel, nor losing. In fact, it looks like the ghost ships damage is healing as soon as each one takes damage... like the two of them are locked in an endless, invisible ghost battle that neither can break free of.

Alrighty.

 

Been pondering what would Alfred do. He obviously does not trust Pieter but at the same time is too proud in his abilities to do anything less than the complete job. If anything, he would be more tempted to fix Pieter properly and if the ghost ship tries to be a git about it after will then attempt to convince Pieter that he knew he would betray them and built in several (non-existant) flaws and if Pieter does not back down and be a good little ghost ship then no freedom. 😛

 

If we did go the repair route, Helena could use her ghost sight to help direct any of the spirits repairing and maybe ascertain if this is for their freedom too?

 

Any thoughts?

 

@Morkskittar I assume Alfred's Drone Attendant (Wattson) would toggle for any repairs on Pieter and increase the impact? Also I figure not, but would Surefire Smith also be active? It specifies Gear and Mechanical Companions (technically you could argue Pieter's sentience is maybe enough to be a 'Plastic Pal Who's Fun to Be With' 'mechanical companion', but I realise I might be pushing it. 🤔 )

I would lean towards letting him loose. Do our best work, then let the chips fall where they may.

I also second the notion of ascertaining if the ships in battle are aligned with Pieter, although I am not sure exactly how.

I dunno, best work? Pieter doesn't sound very friendly. I'm not sure letting loose a fully operational ghost ship is that good an idea. But it could also make for a good ally, especially if they bring the other ghost ships under them. Gods that'd be terrifying actually

I don't think we know how belligerant Pieter is, that's really the main problem. I mean, his talk doesn't make him sound very peace and love but... Well, he wouldn't be the first or only one

Yeah, Pieter's tone and terminology aren't very peaceful. Things like ruling, being better, bigger, and dangerous. There is a good potential for the ghost ship to do a lot of evil. However, given the world and how violent and horrible a lot of it is, is that really so surprising? To sail the verdant seas you have to be strong, dangerous, and have exceptional willpower. Pieter or at least the parts that make it up failed. They were broken apart, slain, and scattered into this ship graveyard. The chance to be free, to have another chance altogether, must be pretty big for Pieter. Which is why I kinda feel sympathy for Pieter, even if it turns out helping it is a big mistake.

 

Destroying Pieter or abandoning it will likely just make an enemy further down the line. Building in a flaw might be the better call but the cut to the result is a little risky and as I said before, i'm not sure how much Alfred would want to do anything that wasn't his best.

 

The idea of an allied Pieter appearing at our darkest moment with a fleet of ghostly ships (army of the dead style) would be pretty awesome (and yeah, you're right Abalon, kinda terrifying also.)

That's a really neat and flavoursome idea. I can see Alfred being subconsciously inspired by Ham's own large maw-like basin mouth as well as prior thoughts of the ghost ship consuming other vessels to turn the crawler arms into something more maw-like. That could be the twist and conflict even from Alfred's repair roll, where Alfred's ended up creating a maw in the prow of the ship which helps it's ability to refuel but also potentially weakens the ghost ship if attacks are made to hit the maw itself? Maybe even making the ship more violent in ramming and consuming?

Alfred is pretty happy to do any of the required roles on the ship or otherwise continue K's chart.

However, another thing he could do is try and do some inventing. Was thinking of maybe combining the length of chain and sawprow teeth to make a grappling hook temporary bit of gear for either Ham, Helena, or another inactive PC or NPC. Maybe have it that the wielder can mark/burn a usage to turn a disaster into a conflict and a conflict into a triumph for a failed wavewalking or related athletics check? Or even give a long range attack? Or whatever Morkskittar deems appropriate.

 

But, will leave first calls for roles to you guys as you both might have an itch to do something a little different on this journey. 🙂

Aye, forge ahead would fit with the narrative of trying to get K to a port and better medical assistance, especially after spending a lot of time already building the Ghost-Mawship.

 

I suppose we could get Kryk T'k to cover the watch, Alfred or Helena can continue K's chart, and whichever one doesn't can do some creating (if Alfred as said i'll try and make a grapnel, let me know who wants it) or tending (either the plant or the engines depending on if we want to grow the mind plant quite yet.)

 

Oh and now Alfred is on the crew, any colours you guys think would suit for his text? 🙂
