2950: A trinket in the snow

The sun was setting behind the Misty Mountains after their first day on the pathless lands of the Sceadudene. What little light could be seen briefly poking through the thick clouds would soon vanish. Wary of the night’s arrival, all companions were making haste to finish preparing the campsite at the place their scouts had found. Nori labored away from most of the others, accompanied only by his kinsman Barin, as he dug in the snow to secure a tent-peg while Barin preoccupied himself with building a fire, several paces away.

The discovery had been as unexpected as it was unintentional. There, amongst the dirt, the snow and some rocks, Nori chanced upon a trinket: a chess-piece made of ivory and bands of a bright, silvery metal. The one that he held in his hand now was a knight, shaped like a white horse, and seemed well-preserved and undamaged, as if it were new.

The discovery had not gone unnoticed by Barin, who could not, at this distance, make out the details of the small thing, but could certainly tell that Nori had found something unusual, and for that brief moment was examining it.

(OOC: This is a side-thread to continue with Nori’s small side-quest. Barin is there, so both Jewdebega and Suzuki can participate, though other characters are excluded for the time being, unless they are called in by the two dwarves, or unless a great deal of noise or fuss is made to draw their attention)
