The journey back home to Otari is uneventful save for the raucous laughter from Boss Scrawng and his mitflit lackeys as the group crosses the drawbridge. Returning the next morning with a new plan to accompany their good night's rest and Rok's freshly repaired shield, the group proceeds to the secret stair in the center of the keep. It leads down to a wooden door. On the other sideis a small, square room. Three plain wooden chairs sit along the east wall of this otherwise empty room. Other than the stair, the only exit from this room is a door west wall, which the group then takes. The door leads to what appears to be a meeting room. A long wooden table sits in the center of this room, surrounded by several wooden chairs. Only the chair to the north seems particularly comfortable, although its cracked leather padding is mostly decayed. Mic opens another door to the south, which leads to a short, ten foot long hallway and yet another door. This latest door opens into a irregular shaped room. This large open area is a filthy mess, even beyond the collapse to the south that clogs part of the room with rubble. Half‑eaten fish, cat‑sized beetles, and bits of waterfowl lie strewn about in a tangle amid gnawed bones of larger creatures. Crowded around what appears to be a badly broken ballista are the hunched forms of four morlocks, smaller than the ones you fought before but equipped with wickedly curved daggers. Though the last door is obvious from the direction you were entering from, it is a secret door on the other side. That fact, combined with their distraction from attempting to repair the ballista, means the morlocks are unaware of the PCs until the party acts. So, I will allow you to formulate a plan before rolling initiative. Then, when Janos enters the chamber with his light source, they turn and hiss at the interlopers. The table is yours! You won initiative by a mile! I gambled and rolled Stealth rather than Perception for Mic, but the gamble paid off. For Mic, due to his Surprise Attack class feature, the four Morlocks are Flat-footed. The creature still gurgles and scrabbles at the burly dwarf, then convulses and dies as Janos' spell arcs through him and another morlock. Rok then smashes his hammer into Janos' second victim. Somehow, the creature manages tokeep its feet. The three remaining morlocks snarl and hiss, each pulling out a dagger from their belts before maneuvering to surround and overwhelm Zum. The light from Janos' spell reflects off of the quick, stabbing blades as they penetrate Zum's defenses again and again. "By Torag, no!" Rok intervenes himself between Zum and the scampering morlocks, landing a vicious uppercut into the face of one of Zum's assailants, smashing its mouth into a red ruin, the force of the strike pushing both of the mutant's eyes out of their sockets. The table is yours! The morlocks have sneak attack, so they do extra damage when an opponent is flat-footed. Two attacks struck Zum for a total of 20 hp damage, but that was reduced by 4 by Rok's Retributive Strike. Rok delivered a critical strike as well. The morlocks also have a special ability that allows two of them to occupy the same space, which happened temporarily until Rok killed one of them. The dice roller is acting wonky. Ignore the results in my spoiler tab (where every attack had almost maximum damage), and go by the results in the summary at the bottom. One change is I forgot to type in the lower bonus due to MAP while I was copy/pasting dice, so the last strike roll against Zum was a 21, not a 25 (which is moot, because the strike never happened).
