Barrowmaze Part One: The Barrowmoor

Thomas

You climb down the rope for several seconds and you don't bump any walls on the way down. Whatever this room is, it's big.

It's also very dark. You can't see a thing.

The feeling of climbing down into an open void is starting to freak you out, but just when you're considering climbing back up, you reach the bottom.

The only thing you can see is the light from the hole you came through. You think it is about thirty feet overhead.

You don't hear any movement in the room around you. You take a step and nearly turn your ankle on a piece of rubble.

What do you do?

The darkness was foreboding but not as oppressive as Serpe made it out to be. At least not to Cyrus. "Hey speak for yourself! I wanted to keep a guard out here with Tamson but apparently that's too cowardly..." As the priest walked by, Cyrus would clasp him on the shoulder in a friendly manner, trying to reassure him that his words hadn't fallen totally on deaf ears.

Following after the group, eyes more focused on things trying to sneak up behind them, Cyrus paid little attention to the hole in the floor.

"Search as you like--I'll make sure nothing sneaks up on us," he said as the tomb air cooled him from the misty humidity.

The barrow mound seems picked over. There aren't any markings on the walls, floor, or ceiling. This must have been a grand burial chamber at some point, but whether or not it was ever used is impossible to say. If there was anything valuable in here, someone else took it.

Serpe

Tamson looks nervous but he gives you a wide-eyed nod when you leave him your instructions.

"I'll take care of everything up here. Do you really think this could be it? An entrance to the Barrowmaze?"

You hear the young ranger quietly comforting the mule as you follow your companions into the barrow mound.

You tie a rope around one of the columns and drop the other end into the hole. Thomas disappears into the darkness as he climbs down.

** OOC: The columns are thick. It takes fifteen feet of rope just to tie off to one, then another ten feet to get back to the hole. There's a thirty-five-foot drop to the floor of the chamber below, so a fifty-foot length of rope wouldn't be quite long enough, although it could potentially be better than nothing.

You've found an entrance to the Barrowmaze. Thus ends part one.

The adventure continues in Part Two: The Forbidden Antechamber

XP AWARD: 1000xp for finding an entrance to the labyrinth.
