Josephine is a woman holding on fiercely to herself. She takes great care in her appearance, striving to control everything from the turn of her lapels to the careful wisps of red curls that frame her face. She speaks in a slow, thoughtful manner always pushing to articulate exactly what she means in a concise and practical manner. She is pretty, pleasant and polite, but tends to keep people at a distance and does not enjoy being the center of attention.

 

As, what she calls, "The Wendigo", her form is all sinew and muscle. A pale, grasping, hairless and horned figure who hungers. She is famine. She is gluttony. She cannot control herself.

  • Personality Traits: She strives to be completely controlled. She hates it when she makes mistakes.
  • Ideals: She must protect people, from herself and others.
  • Bonds: She is devoted to serving the RHC and in particular, the members who helped her when she first started feeling the hunger.
  • Flaws: Her drive for control leaves her alone. She fears letting anyone get close. Also, she has a complicated relationship with food...

HISTORY

  • She and her husband co-owned an apothecary (and she currently lives in a small apartment over the shop, although it now sells antiques)
  • She fell ill, being exposed to something in the shop, and was in a coma for months
  • When she awoke, her husband had killed himself under mysterious circumstances
  • She suspects her husband did something to save her, but she is unsure what
  • At first, upon wakening, she felt wonderful, in the best form of her life and empowered with some kind of supernatural health (strength, dexterity and constitution)
  • Soon, she felt the gnawing hunger, a pain behind her stomach and she had several horrific episodes where she gave into the constant hunger
  • She's gained control through a study of martial science and now feels capable of adopting the form temporarily a few times a day 
  • Members of the RHC have helped her with this study and she is very grateful and dedicated to them

BACKSTORY

Josephine whispered "Again". She had just picked herself off the floor of the practice ring and was carefully righting her training uniform. She passed a hand over her head, ensuring her hair was still secured in a tight bun at the back. She then glanced across at her training partner and settled into a ready stance, lifting a heavy wooden maul in front of her. Of all of the people who helped her, it was Edmund. He knew her best. "Are you sure?" He asked, holding a practice sword loose in one hand.

 

She had just made a mistake, not paying attention to her forward foot, and he'd managed to sweep it out from under her. She looked at him, meeting his gaze, and nodded. They both knew she would never stop training on a mistake, even if it was pushing her limits. Edmund sighed, readied his sword and they started circling each other in the ring. 

 

They should have stopped. Edmund feinted to the left and she fell for it. He swung back and knocked her cleanly across the temple. She emitted a deep guttural sound. It was a visceral noise, coming from somewhere deep in her throat. "Josephine, no..." She spun and flipped the maul toward him. It was just enough to distract him as she tackled him at the knees. Brought to the ground, he struggled, but she was stronger than she looked. She straddled him across the chest and brought her face near his. The colour drained from her cheeks, her pupils grew until they became two dark pools staring down at him. Ragged breathing. The thick wet sound filled the room as time seemed to hesitate.

Finally, she rolled off of him and to her feet. She turned away from him as she once again straightened her uniform. "My apologies. That's enough for today."  With gentle haste, Josephine gathered her things and headed for the door, not even sparing a glance back.

 

Hungry. 

 

As she walked towards the changing room, she dug her nails into her palm, distracting herself from the dreadful sucking empty feeling at her core.
