Ayeba Posted April 5 Clone Share Posted April 5 (edited) Lidda Hilltopple — Ghostwise Halfling Rune Carver Druid 1 Strength: 6 (-2) Dexterity: 16 (+3) Constitution: 16 (+3) Intelligence: 12 (+1) Wisdom: 20 (+5) Charisma: 11 (+0) AC: 17 HP: 11/11 PPPassive Perception: 17 Andraste seems to wake up to life, but she is clearly still shaken. How recent was the attack that took her family? Elves live for a long while. For all Lidda knows, it could be last month, last year, or last decade. The only thing she knows for certain is that she can't ask about it. The emotional wounds Andraste carries have just been brutally opened. Maybe they weren't closed in the first place. 10 hours ago, ArtamenaV said: "You were right, I think...the mission is to save lives...I cannot do that if I'm dead...or...more importantly, sometimes...overzealous. Fire can either raze a house to the ground or" nodding at the fireplace, "keep the ones inside warm...the fire itself has not changed its destructive nature, it only needs a little...restraint." That sounds a bit reassuring. Will she actually be able to reign in her emotions in a heated situation? That's a question impossible to answer until such a situation arises, so Lidda keeps it to herself. She doesn't miss the elf's look towards Thordin. It is slightly concerning, but at least it doesn't look like she's about to murder him immediately. 10 hours ago, ArtamenaV said: "I am ready. Do tell me more of your mentor," she says to Lidda with a smile. Lidda was intending to change the topic herself, so this is perfect. "My mentor, Torberra Stonescale, is an old rune crafter. Old as in 392 years, and she spent at least the last 300 of them mastering her craft. She tutored me for a year, teaching me all I know about runes." The halfling holds up her pendant. "She taught me how to carve runes into gemstones such as this. And also how to prepare the gems, and craft them into jewelry." She turns the gemstone, showing a rune she has carved on the backside before returning the pendant to her chest. "Torberra also taught me the Giant's language, which you heard me use when talking to the big fellow over there," she says and nods towards Thordin. "I don't know if you're aware of it, but they were the original creators of the runes of power." She leans back, feeling a bit thirsty. But no, that would be a bad idea. She doesn't want to make a scene. Well, more of a scene. "But if you want to know more about how my mentor is as a person..." Lidda grimaces. "She is strict. Very strict, but fair. If she believes you are not doing your very best, she will discipline you. But, as I said, she is fair. She will not punish you for a honest mistake, as long as it's the first time you make it. If you repeat the same mistake... well, that can be very painful." She can almost feel a phantom pain on her butt. "Apart from that, she loves her brew. Not to the point that she walks around sloshed, she's more of a steady drinker. I'm not sure if I've ever seen her completely sober." Is there anything else important to mention that could stand the light of the day? "Oh, and she can use her runes to turn into a giant bear. But she doesn't do it often; she doesn't like displaying her power. She hates politics, says it is poison for the soul. I've never dared debate her on that." There was a lot more Lidda could say, but a lot of it involves her own predicament. She is grateful to the old dwarf for her teachings, less so about being treated like a child all the time. It was annoying at best, humiliating at worst. Especially when Torberra suffered bouts of dementia and treated Lidda like a baby. She would prefer never to speak of it ever again. "If you're feeling a bit better, how about we return to one of the tables and socialize a bit with the others, too?" OOC I assume it's fairly common knowledge that dwarves typically die of old age around 350, so 392 is old for a dwarf. Omar replies “Not personally “ “Liar” his inner self cried out “Oh the sweet sweet feeling as magic is rushing through your veins, shaping the world in your will. Hungry always for more of your strength to feed into the magic” he continues outwardly with a schooled calmness “Working with Magic with the elemental forces, requires a firm control of yourself. Young wizards in my order are learning first to not use magic, not even accidentally. The temptation to use fire magic to light a candle is huge, but Magic wants out, wants to expand and grow, so soon you are casting an arm thick beam of fire at the wick of the candle. It’s burning, but so is the rest of the room. The young and inexperienced wizards, may not know how to stop the flow of magic, feeding it with their own energy. Master Enthrophos always said there is a price to be paid for everything, and there is no free breakfast” He remembers Eberhard, not as the young energetic man he had known so well, but as he had last seen him an empty husk lying curled up on the floor. ”I have been lucky so far about the prices I have paid so far, let’s all have another drink to luck and life” OOC To Whom It May Concern . . . @ArtamenaV @Ayeba Name xDiceName xDiceResult xDiceString xDiceRolls
ArtamenaV Posted April 5 Clone Share Posted April 5 (edited) Andraste Moonshadow — Wood Elven Sage Ranger (Archer) 1 “My words,” Andraste said. | ‘My thoughts,’ Andraste thought. | My actions . . . She got the feeling as Lidda went on that her relationship with Torberra is a complicated one. Andraste only interjects once to say that she also speaks Giant, and perfectly understood the Foundling's Jotunhaug dialect before. She declined to mention that she prefers not to speak it, and only learned Jotunhaug to better understand their vulnerabilities. They barely had any written work, and what was written was both sorely lacking in sense, but very impressive for a Hill Giant considering their intelligence level. 16 hours ago, Ayeba said: "If you're feeling a bit better, how about we return to one of the tables and socialize a bit with the others, too?" Just as she was going to respond.... 7 hours ago, RagallachMC said: Moving through the crowd, he finds Lidda and Andraste sitting by the fire. "I am sorry that this Thordin upset you.", he says looking down at Andraste. "On another night I would kill him for this and what he said to me, but tonight...it does not feel right." He finishes by staring into the fire. Her eyes studied Sketvid intently. I should definitely like to see him fight one day...Sketvid barely finished his sentence when- 4 hours ago, Ayeba said: "He didn't do anything bad," she intervenes. It's rude to step in when he was obviously talking to Andraste, but she needs to clear up this misunderstanding as soon as she can. "My friend here has some... issues with Giants, and Thordin happens to be related to them. Unless he actually does something offensive, please refrain from starting an altercation." Does Lidda not trust Sketvid, or me? Of, course, she should not trust anyone she just met, but I would like to possibly travel with her, and there is an ocean between 'just meeting' and 'not trusting' "Hold on, Lidda," Andraste chides and crosses her arms semi-playfully, "Sketvid has not proven himself to be reckless with himself or others in any way. Besides, it was more so the scent of Haugjotun on his person that upset me than anything else. I am alright now." Something tugged in Andraste's mind, telling her it was unwise to tell Lidda about her encounter with Vandria, so she had to convince her another way. "If you'll forgive my saying so," she leans over to Lidda in a lowered, more serious tone so as to not let the Giant Foundling hear, "The Foundling is really of no matter to me. He is too Human to be much of a Giant, and too Giant to be much of a Human. It's likely not even he knows where he fits. I pity him, really." It was a bold gamble, but she found herself lacking much of an option, and it wasn't technically a lie. She did pity him, and he is not her real target, merely an obstacle, if anything. 6 hours ago, Shocker said: If I can be of any assistance to you, please just speak the word.“ Mister Baldul was obviously attempting to provide some wisdom, and Andraste senses sincerity even in his stumbling, "Thank you, Mister Baldul. Please consider the same to be true from myself to you." Accompanying a well-studied individual to Nightstone would be rather useful, as she would certainly be less likely to be tossed outside the gates given her Wood Elven heritage... Now that Andtraste considers Nightstone as an option, there is someone she'd like to visit there. 3 hours ago, Shocker said: “I agree with your wisdom," she says, "Do you speak from personal experience?" Omar replies “Not personally “ Andraste chuckled to herself. Liar. The only thing she had been able to think about in Vandria knows how long had been studying Giants. She knows the pull of knowledge, the grip is has on a mind, the control it makes you think you have. "If it is alright with you, Lidda, I'm still not in the overly social mood, go on ahead. I'll stay with Sketvid and Mister Badul...And Lidda? Thank you for your kindness." OOC @Ayeba@RagallachMC@Shocker Phew! Cointhief Posted April 6 Clone Share Posted April 6 Professor Crisp Wizard 1 8.14.10.18.12.14 | init +2 | AC 12 | HP 6/6 | HD 1 | AR 1 | Sup 1 Arcana +6, Deception +6*, Insight +4, Investigation +6, Sleight of Hand +4, Stealth +4, thieves' tools +4 Slots: 00 The now rather drunk red weasel at the bar, known to a select few as the Great Vicario, was suffering a string of bad luck lately leaving him rather agoraphobic and prone to escaping with the bottle. It was bad enough that he had let himself be summoned by someone like Crisp (a half-loon that had been twisted by one too many forbidden symbols and a horror story past). He couldn't fathom her insistence to abandon the warm sands and breezy coconut groves of the south for the harsh, inhospitable ranges of the north. It was all turning out to be an endless chain of fandom gone wild. She was imitating his legend one accomplishment at a time, or rather failing embarrassingly so in the attempt. The Great Vicario recently took advantage of a stay at Candlekeep to research the matter somewhat extensively. The working theory the long dead wizard developed was that he was not, in fact, resurrected. Nor was he, in actuality, the Great Vicario if you were speaking from a strict, technical standpoint. Rather, Crisp so revered the legend, studied the man's life and exploits in such depth that she grew an element of his memory within her own persona. Like fast friends that slowly absorb each others habits, some portion of Vicario had sprung up within Crisp. Her Find Familiar spell had then attached itself to this cherished element, and given life to a this...shadow copy. It was the least humiliating explanation, anyways. Now she was on some fool-brained quest to talk to a rock, just because an old 2 copper bardsong used a metaphor about it. ~In whispers, Vicario riddled the silent sentinel, and the Nightstone spoke~ A sane person would realize that of course the Nightstone didn't actually speak, but Crisp had taken the old verse literally...even forged some kind of official document to butter up the boulder with diplomacy. It was really too much for a little weasel to accept. But familiars didn't have the luxury of such choices. Crisp had faked her way through Lady Luck's challenge and now seemed to be failing horribly at selling herself to every merchant and mercenary even vaguely mentioning travel north. At some point someone had shouted "Who all here is traveling to Nightstone?" When the Professor raised her hand upwards, her shirt pulled up slightly to reveal her tummy. Sure enough, an actual gorilla hand was dangling there...growing from and merged with the odd woman's own skin. The Great Vicario knew it was a scar from her last duel, the polymorph spell only partially warded by Crisp's ineptitude. Despite the cacophony around him, Yod has a brief respite from the chaos of conversations. Not having to blabber on about nothing at all is just fine with him. He sees the last swallow left in his whisky glass on the table and winces. He could go for another dozen glasses, but drinking himself into a stupor is not what he's after tonight. He's still mad at himself that he missed the turn to Nightstone and ended up in Daggerford. Surveying the room, he sees the halfling being chatty as always with whoever makes it into her orbit. Still, she's got a little dwarven personality to the woman, which is never a bad thing. Although, she could stand to grab a couple of sausages to fatten her up! Whatever that noodle crap she ate was, it didn't put enough meat on her bones. He briefly considers the pillar that the strange elven wizard "flipped," but doesn't feel the need to prove himself. There are plenty of burly travelers here, and it would make for an interesting contest, but that's for another day. His daydreaming is broken by the half-orc playing a violin. It's surprisingly well done for a race of people who have savaged his own over the centuries. Well, to be fair, it was orcs, not half-orcs. But still, the woman could play, and he appreciated a fine work of art in any form. Running his hand through his braided beard, lost in thought, he finds a small bone tucked away in it, leftovers from lunch earlier that day. Yod shrugs, uncaring, tossing it on the floor. Glancing over, he can see one of his spectral ancestors standing quietly off to the side, just watching him. They annoyingly do that a lot. The dwarf did his best to look everywhere else in the tavern to avoid its judging looks.
