Backstory

H'vek'ek, known as "Roach" or "Bug" on the streets of Waterdeep, is a Thri-Kreen with an unusual path. Unlike most of his kind, who roam the wide-open lands and maintain a strong sense of kinship, Roach found himself in the sprawling urban maze of Waterdeep at a young age. His tribe was decimated by an unknown force, leaving him the sole survivor. Driven by instinct and necessity, he navigated the city's underbelly, learning to survive amidst the chaos and indifference of urban life. His unique abilities as an Aberrant Mind Sorcerer began to manifest early, initially as uncontrolled bursts of psychic energy, drawing attention from both curious onlookers and those with less benign interests. Over time, Roach learned to harness these powers, using them to protect himself and navigate the challenges of street life. His past is a tapestry of fleeting connections, narrow escapes, and the constant battle for survival, shaping his outlook and approach to the world.

Description

H'vek'ek, or Roach, is a small-sized Thri-Kreen, standing at just over four feet tall. His chitinous exterior is a kaleidoscope of browns and greens, seamlessly blending into the city's shadows and alleyways. Four arms, each ending in dexterous, clawed fingers, are often seen clutching his meagre possessions or deftly manoeuvring through tight spaces. His faceted eyes, large and unblinking, shimmer with a hint of otherworldly energy, a testament to his sorcerous heritage. Despite his rugged, somewhat ragged appearance, his movements have an unmistakable sharpness, a predator's grace. His clothing is a patchwork of scavenged materials, tailored to his unique form, allowing him to move silently and efficiently through the urban landscape.

Personality

Roach is a creature of instinct and survival. His experiences have honed a cautious, almost paranoid demeanour. He trusts only in his own abilities and senses, always alert to potential threats or opportunities. Despite his wary nature, a strong sense of community drives him. He believes in the mutual aid of the downtrodden and dispossessed, often emerging from the shadows to aid those in need, only to disappear before questions can be asked. His love for squeezing into small, secure spaces and sleeping defensively speaks to his constant vigilance and desire for safety. While Roach may struggle to trust others, he's fiercely protective of those he sees as fellow 'survivors,' often taking great risks to ensure no one else suffers as he has. His actions, though guarded, reveal a deep-seated belief in the importance of solidarity and support among those cast aside by society.
