Thomas

Once your companions throw down a torch, you can see that you're in a stone-walled chamber about thirty feet square. The western wall has partially collapsed.

The ceiling is vaulted, and the hole you came in by is at the apex, about thirty-five feet high.

Worn frescos decorate the walls, and bones litter the floor. The air carries the damp smell of rot.

To the east, an arched hallway extends far beyond the reach of your torch.

Silence weighs heavy in the room, broken only by your breathing and the distant sound of dripping water.

This has to be it —the dreaded labyrinth of the Moor.

Barrowmaze.

Thomas let out a long held breath when his toes hit the floor below him. When others in his party dropped a torch down Thomas looked around for signs of footprints that belonged to those who left the tracks above. Concerned about the amount of light that he would be giving off he lights a candle off the torch and then places it on the ground as a guidance for Dougal. Thomas with candle searches the room he landed in for signs of previous passing.

Thomas

You find footprints leading off to the east. They seem recent but you're not sure exactly how recent. They could have been left yesterday or a week ago.

Thomas convinced that at least a day past since someone left the few tracks he found stands up relieved. He calls up to those above. "It is clear down here." He climbs up the rope he climbed down to tie his own rope to Dougal's to allow two people to descend at once.

I got a grapple with me in case something were to happen to these ones. Can't ever be too sure I reckon.

Well, we got some footprints. Might as well follow those. Unless anyone has better ideas.

He listens at the door from the room - anything nasty may have seen the shadows of the flickering torchlight but they might have not seen them. If he is met with silence, Tharnakalian will slowly peer around the corner and down the hallway, using the torch for light feeble as it may be.

One by one several of Cyrus' companions went into the dark hole. A shiver ran down the archer's spine. "Are--" his voice cracked. He coughed. "Are we all going? What if it's just a hole?"

"Yeah, we're all goin'! This ain't jus' a hole an' we both know it. Let's roll!"

With that burst of enthusiasm, Zaivie descends as well.

Once down with the others, she lets out a low whistle.

"Well, well, boys! Lookee wha' we found ourselves 'ere, eh?"

Don't worry Cy, Arcantryl will watch over us...as long as we take care of each other. As long as we have each others' backs...we'll make it out."

The cleric grips the rope, locks eyes with the archer and nods before suddenly swinging his legs onto the rope, gripping it tightly with a grunt and slowly descending. Once at the bottom, he uses the torchlight to light his lantern and moves to the wall to examine the stonework, the bones and the frescoes.

Having finally found an entrance to Barrowmaze, Dougal is uncharacteristically serious. "The barrows were dangerous to be sure, but now we must truly be on our guard. You said it well, Serpe. Let's watch out for one another, and make sure we all stay alive!"

Once everyone has safely descended, Dougal will take up his position at the front once again. As before, he'll use his staff to rap on the stone floor in front of him, making every step slow, careful, and deliberate in an attempt to avoid traps. He'll also keep an eye out for anything on the walls that might look suspicious.

OOC: If someone else has a bit of rope they'll lend, Dougal will tie a secure knot so that the backup rope reaches all the way to the floor. If not, he will go ahead and secure the rope, but it'll be dangling about 10 feet from the floor. Better than nothing, I suppose...

"An', jus' sayin'...but we're gonna need ta be careful we don' run off too far or split up down 'ere. There might be other exits, I reckon, but we don' know where any of 'em are; jus' this one. If we ever wanna see th' light o' day again, boys, we'd better be damned sure we know where this 'ere hole is," Zaivie warns with uncharacteristic seriousness.

Allen secured his lit lantern to the tip of the rope and carefully lowered it into the hole before descending himself. As he reached the bottom, he untied his lantern and held it aloft, casting flickering shadows across the dimly lit chamber.

"It is spooky down here," Allen remarked, his voice echoing softly in the enclosed space. He glanced around the room, his senses on high alert. "Do you think whoever or whatever made those footprints are friendly?"

He paused for a moment, waiting for his companions to join him. "I am ready when y'all are," he declared. The young warrior pauses a moment to do a brief search of the room in case something might have been missed.

"I don' know if th' footprint makers're friendly'r'not, Al, but I'll tell ya this much: whoever - or whatever - made this...this...whatever th' 'ells it is we're standin' in right now? Those f***ers definitely weren't friendly. Not by a long shot," Zaivie responds.

"Best case scenario," Dougal says with a smile, shedding just a bit of his former gravitas, "another adventuring band made them, and either we either never meet or pass them by amicably. Worst case..." he continues, trailing off, "it's another band, maybe Bertrand, that sees us as rivals and cuts our throats. Or maybe hobgoblins, and they try to cut our throats. Could also be zombies or ghouls, potentially orcs, maybe evil cultists worshipping some dead god?"

Dougal investigates the tracks, then shakes his head. "Odds are it's something that's going to try and kill us. Best be on our toes."

Thomas nods his head in agreement "And if it comes to it. Let's kill them first, before they kill us." Thomas then looks back up the hole they all came down. "Is Cyrus coming down too?"
