BACKSTORY

  • When did you officially become a part of your legacy?

Irina's father and grandfather were both Vanguard before Irina, so it has always been accepted that she would take on the Vanguard mantle. With her father's capture, she has been forced to become the Vanguard sooner than she expected.

  • What’s the greatest accomplishment of your legacy?

Irina's father (as Vanguard) stopped General Winter, the neo-tzarist super-terrorist from unleashing a nuclear holocaust upon the world.

  • How does the public perceive your legacy?

As a cold war immigrant from the soviet bloc, the original Vanguard (Irina's Grandfather) was viewed with some suspicion by the government and the people of Halcyon city. With tireless service, the Orlov Legacy has won the acceptance of citizens. The recent capture of Vanguard (Irina's father) was a serious blow to the hopes of the resistance

  • How does your legacy tie into your reasons for being a hero?

Irina has always known that it was expected that she would take on the Vanguard mantle, but this is way too early for her and she has serious doubts about her ability to live up to the legacy.

  • Why do you care about the team?

Irina is feeling the weight of expectations from her Legacy. She desperately needs support and borrowed confidence from the team to cover up her fears of her own shortcomings.

WHEN OUR TEAM FIRST CAME TOGETHER...

All things considered, we did well and impressed an established hero. Who was it?

RELATIONSHIPS:

You once got caught doing something that shames your legacy with ______________.

You trust ______________ and told them an important secret of your legacy

INFLUENCE:
You’re a part of this team, for better or worse, and you care what they think. Give Influence to all
of your teammates.

MOVES:

Fight the good fight:

When you pull your punches while directly engaging a threat, you can roll +Savior instead of +Danger. If you do, you cannot choose to impress, surprise, or frighten your foe.

Words of the past:

When you seek the guidance of one of your elders or a member of your legacy, tell them a problem you face, and ask them a question about the problem. They will answer it honestly, and tell you what to do. Take +1 ongoing if you listen. If you go your own way, mark potential.

Legacy:

Your legacy is an important part of Halcyon City. Name the different members of your legacy (at least two):

Sergei Orlov, the previous Vanguard has been captured and is held by the Tangee

Alexei Orlov, the Orginal Vanguard is retired and quite judgmental.

Katarina Walker is the next possible member of your legacy.

Whenever time passes, roll + Savior to see how the members of your legacy feel or react to your most recent exploits. Before rolling, ask the other players to answer these questions about your performance. Take -1 to the roll for each “no” answer:

  • have you been upholding the traditions of your legacy?
  • have you maintained the image of your legacy?
  • have you made the other members of your legacy proud?

On a hit, one of them offers you meaningful encouragement, an opportunity, or an advantage. On a 7-9, another is upset with your most recent actions, and will make their displeasure known. On a miss, something you did stirred up the hornet’s nest—expect several members of your legacy to meddle with your life.

Some things that I wouldn't mind seeing developed further:

What are your legacies rules? What is its traditions? How do they differ from what the public expects of your legacy?

What keeps Vanguard going despite her feelings of being thrust into the role too soon?

How was it that Irina's father stopped General Winter? What happened when other heroes tried to stop him? Why was Vanguard's presence necessary?

What can you tell me about the other members of Vanguard's legacy? How was Sergei captured? Is Alexei judgmental about Vanguard or is it something else? How did Katarina become a possible member of the legacy despite not having the Orlov name?

All in all, solid effort. I would like to see what more you can come up with.

  • What are your legacies rules? What are its traditions? How do they differ from what the public expects of your legacy?

The Orloff Legacy is very much one of service and protection of the people. However, Alexei, the original Vanguard and progenitor of the Legacy has created a tradition of the exercise of excellence for Vanguard. The carrier of the Vanguard mantle is expected to be not just a super-hero, but pre-eminent among their peers.

  • What keeps Vanguard going despite her feelings of being thrust into the role too soon?

This is a question that Irina asks herself constantly. She can't imagine taking on the Tangee by herself. However, those around her help give her the confidence to go on. The team is an important part of her determination to go on.

  • How was it that Irina's father stopped General Winter? What happened when other heroes tried to stop him? Why was Vanguard's presence necessary?

General Winter was a personal nemesis for both earlier Vanguards. A new millennium threat in post-communist Russia. His first appearance was to steal Alexei's powers for his own. Rendering the original Vanguard powerless and forcing Sergei to take up the mantle. On top of that, Winter proved to be difficult to deal with as a threat. He had a large network of extremist followers and was able to operate secretly.

However, after stealing Alexei's power General Winter's prestige came to be more based on his personal power and projection of a very Russian machismo, a trait that the previous and current Vanguards understood very well.

Sergei was eventually able to bait Winter into a one-on-one fight. It came down to a bare-knuckles super fight between Winter and Vanguard. When Winter was defeated his cause was abandoned and various world governments were able to clean up most of his extremist followers.

  • What can you tell me about the other members of Vanguard's legacy? How was Sergei captured? Is Alexei judgmental about Vanguard or is it something else? How did Katarina become a possible member of the legacy despite not having the Orlov name?

Sergei Orloff was captured in the Battle of Halcyon city, one the last heroes resisting, he was overwhelmed by supers fighting for the Tangee.

Alexi is definitely of the Silver age of heroes that considered themselves powerful enough to meet any threat no matter how powerful and is more than a little judgemental of the subsequent generations of supers and especially of Irina's generation, who he considers to be not ready yet.

Katarina is Irina's younger cousin, the daughter of Sergei Orloff's sister. Although Katarina's mother did not manifest any of the Orloff family powers. Katarina is showing signs of being a hero in her own right. Her powers are mainly flight and energy projection.

Being raised away from the direct influence of the family patriarch (Sergei) has given Katarina freedom and confidence that Irina doesn't seem to have developed.

Regardless, of where she fits in the Legacy, Katarina expects that she will put on the mask at some stage soon, why not as Vanguard if Irina can't handle it?
