The Threads of Rigo'dae

The Thread of Rigo'dae - aka The Fated Few, aka Living Thread - Entrusted to the Rikathi as part of an ancient ritual, there are those among the Rikathi tribe that have mastered the secretion and collection of the filament from their bodies, as it grows from an open wound in their rib. Those few with the talent can produce enough of the thread-like material in long strands to be used as a woven fabric. While the world may know of many different fabrics used in weaving, using the fibers gifted from Rigo'dae is considered the strongest, most reliable weave; it's properties shrouded in myth. A Mythic Weave -some might say- surpassed by no other.

The Rikathi have slowly begun to experiment with other types of usages of the material and have found it adheres and strengthens any number of other materials. Stone, wood, and steel are not out of the question from benefitting from being wrapped in the parchment-colored fiber. With the greater world slowly learning of the Rikathi's secrets, some among them have started to explore what how best to use their divine gift.

People

The Rikathi are a stout and hardy people. They have come to love the bright colored dyes afforded them by their region's prismatic display of flowers and their preferred drink is an herbal tea. Every Rakathi bloodline has a closely guarded recipe for the best herbal tea. They are not an emotionally charged race, but they do have a tendencies to mix optimism with the tribulations of everyday life; as seen in their hesitation to see anything as permanent. A burden is also a lesson. A gift carries with it a risk of contentment.

They rarely stand taller than 5'5" and their distinctive features divide men from the women. The male features tell the story of crossed bloodlines and mixed heritages; their hair is often light shades of sandy browns, blondes, or greys that contrast heavily with their dark skin. Their beards are sometimes used as a sign of dedication to their spouse; they can be seen braided, cut intricately, or left to grow to their navel. But there is also a growing tradition of tightly kept beards and mustaches gaining favor among the younger generations. It's possible this is because of their newfound tradesman ideals and need. Broad feet and bulbous hairy knuckles make for a profile of the Rakathi men that sometimes feels as though they could not accomplish anything but rolling downhill or soaking in a stew, but they have been working as shepherds, farmers, and craftsmen on Taer Mojr for as long as the world has known life.

The Rikathi women are strikingly different in almost every way from their male counterparts. They are almost universally the tallest in their families, to an astounding height of 5'6". Their skin is pale white granite and they cover it with tattooed patterns to embellish any skin blemishes or uniqueness they may carry. Traditionally these birthmarks are considered a bodily flaw, and all females have them, until a girl grows into womanhood and finds her story to be told. Once the inking have begun, they become celebrated parts of the woman's body. Another distinctive difference in the Rakathi woman is that they do not carry the same girth as the men. She may be as strong, quick, or hearty as her counterpart, but she does it with far less weight on her, nor the hairy knuckles.

Player Knowledge, Not Worldly Knowledge: Another notable difference between the men and women of the Rikathi is the woman's ability to create a substance they call the Living Thread. Through a simple ritualistic act, the women of the Rikathi have the gift of drawing out a thin stringy substance from a puncture in their ribcage (near the armpit). This thread is braided, tied, or otherwise intertwined with any and all materials the Rakathi can imagine to do so. They feel it gives them spiritual relevance, strengthens their craftsmanship, and the thread never corrupts the material with which it is attached. A woman dedicated to the art of her thread can produce a foot of it over the course of a week. Traditionally, all women wear a sash over the shoulder of her thread-side and will wear special colors when she's preparing an exceptionally long thread. There are concerns that one may become barren, but to date no one has ever experienced it for more than a short time, likely due to illness or pregnancy.

The Rakathi do not hold to bloodline rulership traditions. They are led by whomever has shown themselves to be doing so in the best interest of the people. The burden of the crown knows no different between male and female, it knows only wisdom. The Ota Beyr -They Seated on the Throne- settles social disputes and rules on political matters. Their say is final in these matters, but rarely does the Ota Beyr ever make rulings without first discussion with the elders of Mjornduth. The High Voice, leader of their spiritual lives, has been a woman for as long as anyone alive can remember, but a male High Voice is not forbidden. Between these two powerful roles, Mjornduth intends to thrive beyond the dark age.

Leadership

Title: Ota Beyr - Brejna Honorlund

Brejna Honorlund has only been the Ota Beyr for a short time, but she's already proven to be the most active leader of the age. When the former Ota Beyr -Hyruke the Stonetongue- passed during a particularly harsh winter, Brejna's grassroots bid to become the new Ota Beyr gained momentum after she led a successful exploration campaign through a series of cliffside caves to drive out a poison-blooded breed of sea drakes. The sea drakes had been burying their dead in the earth beneath one of the outposts and their bodies had made the soil go barren.

Even though she has a history with the rangers, she does not favor their needs over those of any other group. It's been said she actually keeps them at arm's length to their detriment at times, but their lack of nepotism is rarely seen as a problem to most of the realm.

Ota Beyr's before her were never asked to carry their thread for any length of time beyond their own whims, but Brejna has done so thrice now, and this has given her further respect with the High Voice and other ardent followers of the faith.

Geography

Is 75% of the world's heather moorland in the UK? – What the Science Says

The region around Mjornduth are a beautiful landscape of cascading colors in the warmer months, and sharply vivid purples and blues before and after the cold winters. Rolling hills soak up the open sky and dozens of floral species paint every one of them. When the blossoms fade, heather grass replaces it and replenishes the nutrients needed for the next spring. The Rakathi shepherds lead their livestock across the breadth of the region and their charges rarely go hungry. Nor do the abundance of pollen-moving winged insects, flower-eating rodents, and the elusive predator raptor cockatrice that hunts both.

Inside the hills, caves and natural springs are bountiful. As are the healthy population of fissure bats that slumber in them. During certain perfect cycles, the stars are blotted out by fissure bats and redwing owls as they vie to fill their bellies with the cloud of insects.

The coast is rocky and covered in darkstone beaches. The fish rarely come close enough to the shore for any kind of substantial fishing, but they can be coaxed into some of the tributeries with nets and traps. In certain times of year when the skies are clear, one can see a land on the horizon.

Marine creatures have been known to find haven in the cliffside caves, but nests are regularly checked by the rangers to ensure nothing ornerous has taken up residence. Still, there are plenty of nooks and crannies across the realm where beasts, men, and other adversaries of the Rikathi are able to hide.

Resources

Origin Resource:

Dyes: Through the arts of Bale, and Batik, and Jig dyeing, the Rakathi have invented and sustained a wide colorful range of textiles. Bale is when the cloth is run through a cold-water bath. Batik is the use of waxes and other dye-repellents to ward of over-saturation and provide design. Jig is the stretching and pressing of colored dyed over the cloth, usually through the use of rollers. The Rakathi use windmills and manual-driven spokes to run the jigging.

Faith

Religion: The Oath

The High Voice, formerly known as Tatejka Lor, loses her personal identity once becoming the spiritual leader of the Rakathi. Her burdens becomes those of the clan, the clan's burdens become hers to bear. She is a spiritual advisor, font of wisdom, and Sky-Watcher. She carries the title of High Voice because the Rakathi rely upon her to always be the vigilant to the needs of the voiceless.

The High Voice uses a generation-aged almanac to help guide the people of the realm to bountiful harvests, through troublesome weather, and lend her teachings to the thread-bearers growth. She's also been commanded to keep watch for a second coming of the Dark Age; which is a threat that all of the Rakathi feel is real and imminent if not kept in check. The High Voice communes with the ancestry through rituals and well-kept practices and rarely does she elaborate on such events beyond what she finds to be important to her people.

History

It is said that the fr/midjourney - The scholar reads a poem about agitated wrens for like 2 weeks.irst Rikathi came from beneath the purpled lands. Cave dwellers seeking the light and the knowledge of something beyond their cold home. How they came to be here is lost to the Dark Age, but they worship a myriad of deified entities and continually give them all complete credit for their fortunes, through faith and revelry. Idolatry and symbols from the first born can be found if you go deep enough into the earth, but rarely do the present day Rikathi venture there. That was home then, this is home now. They emerged victorious at the hands of benevolent gods and do not intend to question those methods.

In the light, they have tamed the hooved beasts and mastered all forms of using their bodies to their benefit. The alpacas and brixashulty give them wool and meat, goats give them milk and cheese, and the tauron protects them all from predators. The cockatrice has proven untameable, but makes for a prized hunt when it can be done. Fishing and farming continue to be tried, but so far seem far less reliable than their shepherding practices.

There's never a good time for the debt collectors to come to call, but the Myrkran do their best to minimize the impact. They come to Ota Beyn with a request and she's obliged to help, given how much of Mjournduth has been improved by the Myrkran presence.

2: Gather Intelligence on the Pirate Threat (Intrigue) - Failure

3: A Deal with Captain Albatross (Diplomacy) - Auto

Hilaria Byx is tasked with taking a small contingent of Rikathi to meet Captain Albatross. Turn 9

1: Mjornduth Becomes a City (Industry 5) -

The place once known for it's Longhouses and wooden huts as changed in the last forty years. The stabilization of the region under a Warrior Queen has been far more prosperous than anyone could ever imagine, especially since she has done it without war and an increased reliance on her faith. The people of Mjornduth know diverse trade, craftsmanship, and continue to seek the enlightenment of their elders.

The Myrkran influence is seen everywhere now, but most notably are their sections of the city that are completely to their cultural disposition, a testament to the freedom provided to them through Myrkran Embassy Center. Which has been torn down and rebuilt twice already because of the need for growth. Two story buildings using iron and steel reinforcements break the horizon surrounding it and further growth will no doubt head upwards instead of out.

A defensive wall has been built along the landward side of the city and along the coast they patrol the beaches and built lighthouses and watch towers. Pastures are fenced off and land owners have regular meetings to ensure content neighbors and to discuss any issues that might hurt their flocks.

The Seekers of the Sphere have their libraries sprinkled throughout the four districts, offering anyone with the chance to come and learn the ways of the star-reading people. Star-signed children are often sent to these places of study for scheduled inspection and to update the Seekers on their development or to address any concerns the parents may have about their child.

Between these diverse three cultures, there is something of a melting pot for each district. It's not uncommon for a Rikathi to live near a Myrkran or a Rikathian merchant booth to set up outside a Seeker library and sell cooked lamb to the exiting members after a worship service.

The only district that doesn't have a ton of mixing is that of the Sky Watch neighborhood. The grand Rikathi temple rests near it's center and many of the buildings surrounding it are housing for the devout thread-bearers. Their schedules are as such that large gatherings and loud celebrations would be against the needs of those living there. It's a quieter neighborhood generally considered ruled by The High Voice. The Seekers have placed a library in the neighborhood and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, and go so far as to limit the amount of Seekers who can be present at any given time to keep the solemn environment. Heated philosophical debates are even sometimes paused and the debaters seek a different library to finish with a crowd growing as they march through the city.

2:  Seeking Aid to Help with Seeker's Council (Faith) - Success

3: Council of Velentin's Elders (Intrigue) Fail

Ota Beyn seems too pre-occupied for any true common ground to be found. When the Council seeks out her second in command, she speaks of The Oath and her fervent attitude is not seen as a strength in their eyes. They will pass through this place again in the future, and perhaps an intellectual connection will be made.

4: Raise a Land Unit (Military) - Auto

More and more Rikathi seek to contribute through military might. With the threats from the sea and the constant talk of war across the continent, Ota Beyn has no shortage of volunteers to learn the arts of war.

5: Buyout of Trading Post #2 of Dyes (Industry) - Success

The population of Mjornduth continues to grow and with it, the need for every kind of trade. Those few families who dealt in dyes have started to pass the trade to the next generation. Families have become properly structured businesses and the infrastructure of Mjornduth has been a boon to the entire industry. The riches of the dye trade has given way to larger families and wider pastures. There are even improvements being implemented by the local Myrkrans who have an eye for innovation.
