Halgane Kragminer, Dwarven Ranger

 

background:

Halgana was born to a merchant and his wife in Thrusmoor, who dealt with a lot of the trade between Versex and the Five Kings Mountains, mostly salt for dwarven made weapons. He made a good living, but his daughter was a bit of a rebel. She got a good education, but she liked to run around in the parks, climbing in trees and things like that. She was teased with it by other children, also because she was smaller but heavier than most of them.

When she was old enough, she joined the town militia, specialising in wielding heavy weapons. The first years it was not much more than patrolling in and around the town, but that changed when she was on a patrol between Thrushmoor and Rozenport. They heard the sound of a battle. They went to investigate and there she saw some orcs and undead attacking a caravan. She recognised the sign of her father’s company and knowing he was doing the run personally she charged in.

Her spirited charge confused the orcs long enough to give the caravan guards time to regroup. Together with the militia patrol they managed to take down the remaining attackers. Her father was happy to be rescued and looked at his daughter’s career with other eyes. He even gave her a magical, dwarven-crafted greataxe for her next birthday.

Halgana on the other hand was becoming obsessed with undead and the ways of fighting them. During her off time she would go to temples and pour over volumes of text trying to find out their strengths and weaknesses.  She also became quite good at finding her way in the wilds around Thrushmoor and soon she was a sergeant in the militia.  Unfortunately, when they were escorting some notables of the town, they were attacked and all but one of the notables died. She was the highest surviving militia member and as scout, she was the scapegoat. She was kicked out of the force (quite unfairly most militia members thought, as these things happened unfortunately).  She decided to wander around Golarion to search for interesting things to see.  She would often join caravans as guard, where a ranger with her experience was always welcomed.

On the tall side for a dwarf woman, Halgana is also quite muscular.  She keeps her hair in braids most of the time.  She wears armour painted with earth and forest tones to blend in better.  Over her shoulders she wears the skin of the first wolf she killed.  If she’s not in armour she wears comfortable clothing, also in earth tones.

 

personality:

Halgana is a quiet  person, having few friends when growing up as the only dwarf her age in Thrushmoor.  With good friends she opens up a little more, but making these friends isn’t easy for her.  On the job she will only say the absolute necessary.

She's quite gruff at times, but she is adept at using reason and logic to talk her way out of situations, something she learned from her father.
