Her life was quite idyllic there, going to the local schools, making friends easily while running around in nature around the town. Things changed however when she was 12 and a serial killer passed through the village, killing two people there. Emma actually found the second body on her way to school. She was shocked but managed to alert the police. Later she was asked to talk to the FBI, who was on the case and had come to the town. She needed some therapy of course, but she managed to get through quite okay. She did have a tendency to live life to the fullest after the event, realising even at that young age how short life could be. This got her into some trouble, although it was mostly minor things. Luckily her grades didn't suffer and those combined with her sports results (she ran track, mostly 800 and 1500m but also some cross-country) allowed her in SUNY on a full scholarship. There she studied journalism in Buffalo, while keeping up her sports. She studied hard and got her degree quite easily. After a year of freelance journalism, she managed to get a job with the New York Times, specialising in police reporting. It was during one of these trips, when she herself was assaulted by a criminal seeking to escape during a shooting in Central Park, that she suddenly found herself in a strange place. It looked like Central Park, but a lot wilder and the scyscrapers around the park were overgrown with plantlife. Seeing a large bear coming at her, she ran away, seeking refuge in one of the old buildings. The bear got one swipe in but she found some hidden reserves she didn't know she possessed and she outran it towards one of the old buildings. Inside she saw a lot of graffiti and for some reason, she felt compelled to add her name, using her blood to write it on the wall. She woke in hospital, the victim of a stabbing in Central Park, but also a changed woman. She wasn't sure what had happened, but one of the doctors, also a mage and of the Mysterium, sensed something in her and after a few tests, he explained what happened. She started her mage career, but after a few months, she felt a need to protect people, probably a supernatural feel from her awakening. So she applied to the FBI and was accepted. After her training, she was assigned in the New York Field office as trainee agent and after her probation period, she was assigned special agent in the Criminal Division of the New York Field Office. Here she works criminal cases and also tries to find and conceal supernatural involvement in the city. As she sometimes used a few minor spells to help with cases, she quickly gained a reputation as a good technical investigator who could get a lot of information out of crime scenes.
