Alruna approaches cautiously as the battle is joined. She has never seen such creatures before. As she draws closer and is able to take them in fully under her flickering torchlight she feels the same wave of unease in their presence that she did when handling the amulet from the woman. She takes a position alongside Hjarlof, prepared to defend herself if necessary, but better able to aid her comrades if need be.

OOC CombatAlruna moves foward and initiates total defense granting her +4 dodge bonus to her AC until the beginning of her next action.

Growling, bleating and roaring, the beast men stand defiant against the brutal assault of the Northfolk. They cut and slash with their battle axes, searching for weaknesses while their round shields are at the ready to ward off the blows of their assailants. Alfdis continues to be assaulted from several angles and suffers minor cuts and bruises as he is battered. Blodarna takes a glancing blow off the side of her head that rings her ears momentarily. Blows glance ineffectually off of Goran's thick hide but the beast he had ravaged and subdued struggles free of his grasp.

Goran8.jpg.db0095ee113c74f410dfa9e2736beae9.jpgGoran Halfbjorn  Dire-Bear Berserker

Goran rakes down upon the creature's torso with his paw, releasing his hold on it. He continues mauling..., biting..., clawing. He lets go a bellowing roar of anger as his foe's thick skin and erratic scrambling grant it a few more breaths of life.

The Northfolk press in and draw more blood. Blodarna deals a savage blow to her foe in retaliation, causing it to bellow in pain and rage. Ranulf deftly manuevers for an advantageous position, The beast lashes out for him as he passes but he side steps the blow. Taking advantage of the commotion of the raging bear, Ranulf plants his axe in the back of their enemy. Hjarlof's torch lofts through the air, better illuminating the macabre spectacle of the dismembered family. His song provides a counter point to the senseless evil and butchery on display and heartens his allies, reminding them of their humanity. Goran roars and lashes out but fails to find purchase with his deadly arsenal.

Alfdis recoils, grunting as they block the hits from the aberrations. They know they'll end up overwhelmed if they keep being too defensive, so they wait for an opportunity

Just as one of them raises its arm to attack once more, Alfdis side steps their attack and sends their axe crashing on the side of their neck, continuing its arc into a second one's shoulder as they move back, slightly brushing against Goran. They prepare themselves for a counterattack, but know it might come a little too late, should the beasts try and charge them

OOCSince I have -3 AC (-1 from Raging Song and -2 from Cleave, I'm at 10 AC)

Alruna sees the fate of the battle balancing on a blade. Her eyes roll back into her skull and she tilts her head back as the words of a prayer to Odin spill from her lips asking for fortune in battle. The prayer starts quietly but rises to a crescendo. Alruna's allies feel the power of her words pulse through them, insipring them to further bravery and bloodshed in the name of the All-Father.

OOC CombatAlruna casts Bless. "Bless fills your allies with courage. Each ally gains a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and on saving throws against fear effect" You gain this bonus for the rest of combat

image.jpeg.0b21385cbaf608bdbfe3f563047fd34c.jpegUndaunted by their losses, by the rousing song or the ominous prayer, the beast men redouble their efforts and press the attack on all sides, lashing out furiously at their foes. The promise of violence, torture and worse is burning in their eyes. The Northfolk sense intuitively that falling cleanly in battle to these vile creatures would be the best possible fate short of victory. Their counter assault is vicious and the warriors are pushed in, harried and battered. Blood is drawn, armor is rent and the beasts howl with ecstasy.

OOC CombatAll of their attacks hit. Please mark down your damage.

Ranulf.JPG.4fad043419b1e11ce6a1f0039bafcf1d.JPGRanulf the Rooster  Human Raider

Feeling the sharp ice-fire of the wound at his side, Ranulf snarls back at the foe he'd so foolishly ignored. While he chooses to ignore the blood-song of the skald, choosing to trust his own instincts instead, for a moment his desire to be a towering berserker, or, even a bear, takes over.

The feeling is over in a flash, however, as saner thoughts take over. He feints right, then darts to his left to bring both his hatchets at beast-man.

Goran8.jpg.db0095ee113c74f410dfa9e2736beae9.jpgGoran Halfbjorn  Dire-Bear Berserker

The beast's wicked axe tearing through the fur of his shoulder and deeply into the flesh beneath, caused Goran to immediately lash back at that creature's face and neck with a paw-full of dagger-like claws. He swiped, again, at the creature next to it, followed quickly by another snap of his jaws at that one's own arm and shoulder, attempting to tear the limb away completely.

Seeing that their enemies weren't backing off despite their losses, Alfdis groaned as they lifted their axe and sent it crashing down on one of the creatures, thinking to themselves

"What kind of creatures are these? What other horrors could still be ahead, lying in wait? And how can anyone worship them? But most importantly, why are they here? I dearly hope we can find some answers in this place"
