  1. What's new in this game
  2. Okay the Thanksgiving holidays were busier than I anticipated so I probably won't actually have time to finish and post my application here, unfortunately. Good luck to everyone, though! <3
  3. Is there something like Area Lore? If so, it's likely Knowledge, isn't it?
  4. I think Thyra is ready for review. Disclaimer: to the best of my knowledge, there isn't any canon mention of Lasombras in relation to Vikings except in the role, or wake, of Christian evangelizers; but considering the Clan's tradition of seafaring and piracy, I thought it wasn't impossible to imagine some of them were part of that. The whole lore about the Einherjar mainly comes from the Wolves of the Sea sourcebook (although it is also mentioned in Dark Ages: Europe, also a Revised Edition book). Since you mentioned you could consider elements from previous editions, I submit the Road of the Einherjar to your consideration. I reviewed every Road available in DAV20 and didn't seem to find a fitting replacement. Since there's nothing about Aura in Revised, I took "Command" for it because the Road of King and the Path of Power and the Inner Voice seemed the closest, although some elements in each of them do not fit. I do (legally) own a PDF of that book, I can provide a copy if it helps; although the relevant parts are already in the application. Since the character was developped before you announced that the Chronicle would start in the vicinity of Budapest, I will stress that her being currently "anchored" in Constantinople doesn't prevent her from moving around, and there may sure be various reasons for her and her little troop to travel there, either from her own volition or sent on mission by Gabriella. And considering the dates, learning that the city felt while she was away could fuel interesting character developpment later...

  6. I have a request - can I use the Enchanting Voice merit from V20?
  7. Sword and Tzimisce is fine, with Background we'll play it by ear but probably useable with a suitable penalty, I'm never going to penalise you for taking anything either way!
  8. "You may call me Angelica - or the Pale Lady, if you prefer the monicker I've been given by the crypts' custodians. They are wary of me, because they sense I am not one of the living. But what do they know about death? Have they ever died, only to awaken once again, buried in their own tomb? My devout sire - cursed be his name - believes this is the proper way to introduce a newborn childe to their new existence. As our Lord Jesus conquered death, so do we, he used to say. That just shows how much of a deluded, fanatical fool that he is. God does not care about us - why would he? The farmer does not care if a plant dies: he merely replaces it. God did nothing when the plague took my village, leaving me alone. He did nothing when my sire forced damnation upon me. So why would He now show mercy to a monster? No, no. God has turned His back upon me, and so I have done the same. I don't need a God to remind me of all that was taken from me. If my destiny is Hell, I will get there picking my own path. It was this reasoning that drove a wedge between my sire and me. He soon recognized his mistake - and while he spared me the finality of oblivion, he erased my existence. I suspect he did it not out of spite, but out of shame. The fact that his judgment had been so wrong - that he picked a childe so unworthy of his precious teachings - it diminished him in the eyes of his peers. And as pious and wise as he claimed to be, he was also vain and proud. Every time I rebeled against him was a blow to the powerful image he had built so carefully. He cast me out, and called me Caitiff. I won't bore you with the details of my travel east. Yes, I am far from Venice. I've been to Cluj-Napoca and Sibiu before I arrived here. But I knew where I was going. I've seen it - I see many things. I'm told it's an ancient gift, passed on in blood through the generations. I don't care where it comes from: I have the sight, and so I use it. I settled down here, in the catacombs of the Cathedral. Other Kindred like to ignore my presence. They pretend I don't exist, and I'm happy to stay out of their way as long as they leave me alone. Our kind's politics are a ruthless mix of betrayals and alliances of convenience. It's a game I'd rather not play. One might object that none among us can thrive in isolation. After all, isn't our nature that of a predator? What would be of the Kindred, without mortals to hunt? We flock to their cities, gathering like maggots on a putrescent corpse. As we stalk the same halls, we must learn to deal with each other - and of course, some among our elders claim authority: over the city, over its people, over those of us who can't match their might. So I do what I need to survive. Not all tyrants can be denied, and sometimes, it's easier to bend the knee than to break your chains. I have a servant - a dreadful little thing who reminds me of the days when I still could see my own reflection. She's a miserable one, a reject no one would look at a second time. That means she can remain hidden in plain sight - just another unfortunate soul unworthy of attention. It was her who planted the bait that lured you here. Now that you are trapped, I'll only have to wait for your demise, but fear not. Your blood shall not be wasted." Pale and gaunt, Angelica shows either the signs of a life spent fighting against malnutrition, or of an Embrace which reached her after prolonged sickness had taken its toll. In life she could have been beautiful - with elegant cheekbones and a hooked nose betraying her mediterranean heritage. Her black hair, long and straight, is the perfect contrast to gray skin which is unnaturally pale. Tall and underweight, Angelica would blend in among those afflicted by a plague. Blue circles under her dark eyes only contribute to her eerie appearance, so much so that when she walks through the catacombs she claimed for herself, mortals mistake her for a ghostly apparition. Angelica does nothing to discourage this warped perception of her. The long, flowing white dresses she often wears could, in fact, remind of a shroud. Still, despite her frail looks, the woman possesses supernatural resilience which many other Kindred have underestimated. While the woman's body might appear sickly and corpse-like, her voice is strong and melodious, with argentine tones that many find compelling and alluring - a fact which might or might not be linked to a quirk specific to her Embrace. Even more strangely, Angelica can't be seen through any reflections - no water pond nor mirror seem able to capture her image. This patchwork of unusual traits has perplexed more than one of her peers, and the woman is not inclined to disclose additional information. With no clan to back her up, this vague ascendancy clearly marks Angelica as a Caitiff and a pariah among the Kindred.
  9. Covid caught me off guard... but I'll do my best to make the finishing touches of my application ASAP.
  10. is Old Clan Tzimisce a thing and possibility for the chronicle?

  13. Just to let you know that I am still here, waiting patiently, not biting my fingernails, lol.
  14. Vรกclav grew up in the gutters of Prague alongside all the other orphans not lucky enough to be taken in by the church or a wealthy family desperate for a playmate for their spoilt child. Like so many before and after him he learned to survive by begging and stealing, banding together into small gangs that fought each other for scraps of territory. Vรกclav only had one love interest in his life, a childhood friend who harshly rejected his feelings in favour of someone of a higher social class and ever since he decided to do whatever it took to keep people with him, regardless of if they wanted to stay with him or not. Although he never forgot how to throw a punch or when it was time to run, Vรกclav came to specialise in knowing what secrets were worth holding onto and which ones were worth burning for instant leverage. This knowledge, and his willingness to swallow his pride and manipulate the emotions of others to pity him allowed him to build of web of people to leech off of. As long as he was kept warm and fed Vรกclav agreed with whatever others said and did as they asked, but as soon as his benefits stopped the dirty secrets started to emerge. For better or worse he came to the attention of Konrad, a Nosferatu who admired his techniques, and he became a ghoul for several years before finally earning the embrace one night. Vรกclavโ€™s new appearance, that his eyes, nose and mouth now each took up a one third of his face respectively while his skin turned the colour of copper, had little effect on his mental state as, after all, people would always hold disgust and revile towards him, only now they wouldnโ€™t try to hide it. Konrad gave Vรกclav the upbringing he never had as a child, he taught him to read and write, how to speak some of the learned languages, and ensured that he would be able to survive the nights in his new state of unlife. Konrad almost spoilt the young cainite as the son he never had while Vรกclav was more than happy to act the surrogate son. In time Konrad released his childe from his care and sent him on his way, this went about as well as anyone would expect and while the fallout did last several years they were eventually able to reconcile. Eventually Vรกclav was forced to flee when some lucky hunters stumbled across his haven and destroyed it, leaving only Vรกclav, his two ghouls Hedvika and William, and some personal belongings as they fled towards Budapest to begin a new life. Vรกclav has two ghoul companions to serve him in various roles, each cares for him in their own way, but he either refuses or is simply unable to understand this and already has plans for when they โ€˜inevitably betrayโ€™ him. Hedvika Otakarova, ghoul: a Bohemian noblewoman who refused to step into the limited role society had planned for her and ran away from home at 19 where she Vรกclav while hiding from soldiers sent by her family. Serves him as he provides her a healthy amount of freedom and respect, when compared to her other options. William of Papworth, ghoul: a semi-retired English mercenary turned with a taste for cheap alcohol and easy entertainment, met Vรกclav while he was acting as an armed escort for some pilgrims visiting Prague. While initially hired for a simple intimidation job, long term employment soon followed. 15. Odd question, but how are some backgrounds that are described in the book as being to a particular city work if the character is not from the city the game takes place in? For example contacts and allies Would Koldunic Sorcery/Karina be bought with freebie points at the discipline cost or blood sorcery path cost? Or am I entirely misunderstanding this?
  16. Merits, Flaws, and Touchstones wip Multi-lingual (3-point Merit) - Through patience, study, and/or immersion (mostly the former two in Juliana's case) you are able to speak another language or languages with native fluency. For each dot of Intelligence your character possesses, you may know one other language. Juliana is fluent in Latin and even Greek due to her studies; she understands Provenรงal as well due to it being the language of literature at the time. Finally, due to her home bordering the Slovene lands, she is also familiar with the west Slavonic language. Philosophical Humanist (3-point Merit) - You do not much care as to whether or not the Biblical Cain was the forefather of all vampires, whether he was cursed by God or, indeed, if God or Caine even exist. Nor do you buy into the superstitious folderol surrounding the Beast. It is, to you, neither a demon nor some "evil self"; it is simply a manifestation of normal, if dark, human passions, twisted and intensified by the power of the Embrace. As a result, you find yourself at an advantage in combating the Beast through the judicious application of reason. All of your rolls to resist frenzy and Rotshreck are at a -1 difficulty. Brujah Cainites, though no less capable than any other clan of waxing secular regarding the Curse (and often more inclined to do so,) may not take this Merit, nor may a character with this Merit also take Calm Heart. Repulsed by Aromatics (1-pt Flaw) - Similar to Repulsed by Garlic, Juliana has an intense and traumatic reaction to the scents of the herbs burned to ward off and cover up the smells of sickness - they cause her to flash back to the epidemic that ravaged her family and stole her looks. Books and Reading (Intelligence) - Juliana secretly dreams of owning something far outside the reach of even the wealthiest baronial family, a treasure only princes can afford to purchase: a book of her own. Radkersburg (Resources) - Juliana is from the Duchy of Styria, often called "the green march" for its dense forests and fertile farmlands. Her family's estates near the hamlet of Radkersburg are rich in vineyards and orchards, and since she was fourteen Juliana has managed it all. Though no merchant (she leaves haggling to bailiffs) she has learned how to make a fief productive, and her hard work has ensured that her family continues to enjoy a life of luxury. The tough, canny old factor on the family estate taught Juliana most of what she knows. His daughter, who was Juliana's age, died in the plague; he treats Juliana as something of a surrogate daughter, despite the impropriety. Elisabeth (Manipulation) - The bride to be of Juliana's brother Philip. There is a long alliance between the two families, and Elisabeth and Juliana know each other well, or so Elisabeth thinks. While she considers Juliana a friend, she has no intention of playing second fiddle to an unmarried sister for long, especially one whose increasing "frailty" keeps her abed all day. With her brother's upcoming wedding, it's expected that Juliana will turn over the keys and the management of the family's lands to her new sister-in-law. Elisabeth would be shocked if she knew just how much the "invalid" has quietly appropriated for herself since the marriage was first suggested. Juliana enjoys living like a noble, and has no intention of taking up residence in a dank cave somewhere, Nosferatu or not. Stift Admont (Self Control) - This is a Benedictine abbey about four or five days' travel from Radkersburg; Juliana's family have long been patrons. It was hoped that she would choose to become a nun there, once it seemed clear that she would never marry - something she had absolutely no interest in doing. For all that she was usually the quiet one in any group, she greatly enjoyed the company and the conversation of others when she could get it. And though she frequently visited the abbey to peruse its famous library, she had no wish to forego the small amount of power she had managed to accumulate in favor of an austere life of contemplation. If they decided to push too hard...well, Juliana knew where the bodies were buried. Or so she thought...
  17. Retainers Vinzent and Julius are young men from Juliana's own hometown of Radkersburg, and pox-faced as herself from the same epidemic that brought an abrupt end to all their childhoods. They see no wrong in serving one of the race of Caine - after all, it's not as though the race of Seth has shown themselves to be much better. Vinzent believes himself to be the cleverer of the two (and likes to rub it in). Julius, however, quietly but firmly disagrees. The two men bicker constantly, as well as providing occasional commentary on ongoing events, like a Greek Chorus. Nature: Eye of the Storm (Vinzent) / Defender (Julius) Demeanor: Bravo (both) Physical: Strength 4, Dexterity 3, Stamina 4 Social: Charisma 3, Manipulation 2, Appearance 1 Mental: Perception 2, Intelligence 2, Wits 3 Talents: Alertness 3, Athletics 3, Brawl 2, Intimidation 2 Skills: Archery 2, Crafts 1, Melee 3, Stealth 3, Survival 2 Knowledges: Hearth Wisdom 2, Investigation 1, Law 1/Theology 1 (Vinzent/Julius) Backgrounds: Contacts 3, Resources 2 Virtues: Conscience 2, Self-Control 3 (Vinzent) / 4 (Julius), Courage 5 (Vincent) / 4 (Julius) Disciplines: Potence 2 Humanity 6 / 7 (Vinzent/Julius) Willpower 7 / 6 (Vinzent/Julius) Freebies: Strength 4 (5), Stamina 4 (5), Alertness 3 (2), Athletics 3 (4), Humanity +1 (1), Willpower +2 (2) Not sure about the last few points, but I'm thinking of giving Julius the Common Sense Merit.

  20. "No one reaches adulthood without some scars, whether on the inside or the outside. The ones on the inside are usually much worse." Life Juliana was born to a family of ancient lineage and comfortable, if not massive, estate. Wealth and prominence, however, are no protection against smallpox, which ravaged the town when Juliana was a child. Thankfully, her eyesight was not damaged, and many people attempted to cheer her by pointing out how pretty her eyes were. But the same could not be said of her face. It was taken for granted by everyone Juliana knew, for most of her life, that she'd never get a husband in spite of the dowry she could bring. Nothing in Juliana's own experience suggested anything different. Boys ignored her completely during her teen years, and while the same was not quite true of young men when she reached her twenties, they certainly didn't seek out her company. So be it! The damned pox had not affected her mind, at least. Her father's heavy drinking and the fact that her one surviving brother cared for nothing but hunting left Juliana the effective administrator of their lands. She also loved to read and write -- and as her many correspondents could not see her face (a few didn't even realize she was a woman), they judged her intellect on its own merits. The status of her family -- and her father and brother's benign neglect -- allowed her to delve deep into the family archives, the collection of volumes owned by the local Bishop, and the small library guarded by the nearest abbey, learning things about the history of the land, the holy mother Church, and the doings of various families that many would rather be kept quiet. The worst of her situation, as far as she was concerned, was that the older women in her extended family kept pestering her to enter a religious foundation, and hide her ruined face from the sight of the world. Unlife Juliana's extensive correspondence continues, but the nature of some of her correspondents has changed -- or rather, her understanding of their nature has changed. Some of the people she exchanges letters with have turned out to be Cainites themselves, and since her Embrace, they have taught her how to send cleverly coded messages disguised as mundane gossip, allowing them to freely discuss matters that should not come to mortal ears. Just as few of her mortal contacts knew she was a woman, few of these Cainite Contacts realize she is Nosferatu, and would be very surprised to find out. Juliana has exchanged many letters with a learned Brujah in Prague and a cultured Ventrue in Constantinople, and each of of them assumes her to be a member of their own clan. She has lately heard tell of a great Academy of Cainites, devoted to art, reason, and virtue, and she wishes to learn more.
