When Pokemon GO! came out in 2016, one of the first things I thought to myself is that this concept would make so much more sense with Digimon than Pokemon. "Evil Digimon are escaping into the real world, but all the real people can use their phones as Digivices and fight them off" is an idea that the concept basically hands you for free.

I brainstormed it for a while, but only really put thoughts to paper a couple years ago. I extrapolated on that concept into an alternate history where Digimon was more popular than Pokemon, and consequently Digimon Go! was the big hit game of the year. And, being Digimon, it only makes sense that the technology be expanded upon and happenstance make things a bit more than a game.

This game is going to be more heavily inspired by Digimon Tamers than any other flavor of Digimon, in that it's set in the real world instead of the digital world. Who knows what else you might discover at that point?

The year is 2049. Bandai-Namco has just celebrated the 50th anniversary of the most successful multimedia franchise in the world. The original short film was re-released in theaters all around the world. The original Agumon balloon from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was brought out of retirement and hoisted above their corporate office in New York. And, most importantly, the re-launch of their 2016 hit mobile game Digimon GO!

The game was released worldwide after a massive advertising campaign, demonstrating the advancement of their technology and the company's commitment to maintaing the spirit not only of the original game, but of the franchise as a whole. A love letter to all of Digimon's history, the good, bad, and even some of the messier parts. Advertisements showed Digimon escaping out of mobile devices, home appliances, electronic billboards and more, all causing havoc and chaos for people around the world. But the solution, ever present, is the Digidestined. As each and every person takes up their phones, they become the newest generation of Digidestined, and with their very own partner Digimon, fight back against the chaotic Strays, and against eachother in fierce territory battles.

This evolution on the Digimon medium is only due to the advancement of augmented reality technology over the past three decades. No longer a confusing hobby project, AR has become so ubiquitous in the world that it's hard to find anyone not using it, from the largest enterprises in the country to even the smallest mom and pop shops. Public transportation have virtual marquees that seem to float above the vehicles; Restaurants host virtual menus at every table; Even the cheapest mobile phones can provide a person with a full heads up display; And somehow, fashions shows have only gotten more confusing with the addition of virtual accessories and garments.

And now? It's host to digital monsters.

I hope you don't get tired of the prefix "digi" being arbitrarily attached to things because hoo-boy. It's everywhere.

  1. What's new in this game
  2. I take it this isn't happening anymore? Understandable if RL has gotten in the way, just want to confirm.
  3. No worries; I'm just overeager. Glad to hear that everything's going all right, and I can understand RL issues piling up. No rush.
  4. Everything fine, it's me that's the problem. I keep saying there won't be any more interruptions on my part and that it isn't indicative of how things will be long-term and then something else comes up >.> For whatever it's worth I'm just as frustrated about my own flakiness as any of you. I have 3 of the 5 intro posts done, I just wanted to make sure I had them all ready before I posted any of them. I'm eating dinner right now, but once I'm back at my computer I'll make sure I have everything up tonight.
  5. Just checking in: is everything all right with the game, or is there anything more that you need?
  6. Happy to be selected. I have a few unspent points still so I might give things another once over to make sure there isn't anything else I wanna buy, besides that I'm good to go.
  7. Two character sheets are needed for your application: Your Digidestined and their partner Digimon. Your Digidestined is built as a PL 5 completely mundane human with 75 PP to spend on themselves. You should expect to be artificially capped at PL 5 no matter how many PP you spend on your character. At the end of the day, you are a completely normal human without any supernatural powers(PL 5 is actually very high for a mundane human, as well). Please keep this in mind when choosing attributes as well. Your cap is technically 15, but 7 is considered peak human. You can still take Powers that have otherwise mundane explanations if you so choose, such as a few ranks of Speed or Leaping to represent peak athleticism. 2-4 Complications as normal, but unlike usual, you are not required to pick a Motivation. After all, as far as you all know, it's only a game, right? Any unspent PP may be saved for later if you would like. Your partner Digimon, at their Rookie level, is built as a PL 8 character with 120 points to spend. No Complications. Please keep in mind that, at this stage of the game, you are only building a "stock" version of your Digimon, not a unique one. You will have opportunities for your partner to grow more unique in the future however. You will eventually need to create separate statblocks for their future stages, however this is not required at creation. When building these Digimon, please keep in mind their size. An average human is considered Size -2. Something smaller, like an Agumon, would be Size -3, while something on the scale of HerculesKabuterimon would be larger at Size 2. This is best represented through ranks of the Growth and Shrink power, with the Permanent extra. I've been using website as my basis for most Digimon sizes and I encourage you to do the same. Speaking of Digimon, when choosing your Digimon, you are encouraged to not only strike off the beaten path and pick some less common Digimon, but you are also welcome to create any evolutionary lines that you can justify with thematic consistency. For example, Morphomon>Hudiemon>Shutumon>Junomon technically isn't an official evolutionary path, but would be considered acceptable for our purposes. Fakemon, while not disallowed, are discouraged. We're setting this 25 years in the future, there's enough room to justify new Digimon being added to the franchise in that time via Fakemon I'm not going to require any specific format for applications so long as it is legible and hits the usual suspects, like appearance, personality, and background. After selection, players are welcome to come up with a unified format for their sheets as well as for posting if they so choose. The only critical details I can think of off hand are that this game will take place in Tokyo(and likely more of Japan), and the in-universe release date of the game will be March 6th, 2049, which is also when the first session will take place. Digimon do not require anything for flavortext. Appearance is covered by the picture, they all share the same backstory, and their personality is heavily influenced by their species. That is to say, while a Digimon's personality is influenced by their species, it is not defined by it. A Devimon is more predisposed towards violence and aggression, for example, but they can develop in other ways, particularly through the influence of their partners.
  8. I think that Shiori and Bacomon are good to go. Looking forward to it!
  9. Happy to be here as well. Looking forward to playing with you all. I think Kanno is basically good to go, I made and/or responded to the suggested changes, so unless I missed something or my changes weren't what you were looking for should be ready to hop in and play a totally normal Pokemon Go-like game with absolutely no strange happenings or world shattering revelations about the nature of Digimon :).
  10. Well that just makes me feel bad for seeing a gap in the party and filling it. Oh well...
  11. Whoo! Happy to be here! I'm not too worried about Kuroko, but I should flag she may need a second look - my rework of her background added some significant stuff from the first pass. But I agree that our socially awkward side is a fun possibility for this group. ;) With Kuroko, she actually has some social ability - but with her focus on Intimidation, it's very specific and not always useful. Being 'the scary one' isn't exactly something folk are always gonna like. ^^
  12. Alright, I swear this is going to be the last real delay on my part. I got moved to the night shift so instead of 8-4 I'm now 3-12, and while you'd think that gives me a lot of free time during the day(I sure did when I agreed to it), I was not prepared for just how badly this would throw off my schedule and mess with my day-to-day. But excuses, excuses. I promise this won't be representative of how things will look going forward. Ripping the bandaid off, I am going with five players, in no particular order: -- Kanno Kaede -- Yamazaki Shiori -- Murakara Kuroko -- Rin Matsuda -- Elmo Finger I do want to thank everyone who applied, and apologize I can only take so many. I was really excited to see some of the characters and concepts you all came up with, and even if not here, I hope you get the opportunity to realize them in another game, Digimon or otherwise. As I was considering characters and dynamics, one thing that I really found myself enjoying was the prominence of less-than-socially-adept characters, which I felt could lead to some very fun opportunities. I've no intention on dictating how any dynamics may or may not develop between the group, but "a bunch of introverts and their token extrovert friend have to save the day" is a very funny plot in my head. That being said, I've obviously been a bit negligent with reviews up until this point(again, I swear that's not going to be the standard going forward), so if you have any other questions or concerns about your characters don't hesitate to ask me about them. I'm going to go through them all with a fine toothed comb on my next day off, but while reviewing them all for recruitment I didn't notice any significant problems. First posts will be going up once everyone has joined, I'm going to be starting everyone off in a solo thread to introduce their partners and set the stage for the story. In the meantime, feel free to start establishing any pre-existing relationships if you would like to have them, or maybe see if everyone wants to come up with a unified posting format.
  13. Would a multi-tool suffice as a lock-pick set? Or could I just use a Lock-release gun and flavor it as a lockpick instead of tech? OFC moot question if I don't make the cut. :) No worries though, I won't be grumpy if ya pass on me.
  14. As the 26th comes to a close(at least in my timezone), I just wanted to thank everyone for applying! There's a lot of really good characters here and I hate having to pick between them. I am going to be spending the next couple days going through everything with a fine toothed comb, some I'll comment on, some I'll keep to myself as part of the selection process. During this time you're free to many any changes, corrections, or finishing touches to your characters that you like. As mentioned in the beginning, I will likely be selecting 5-6 players, expecting at least some attrition as is common in PbP games, though I will be elated if we can see a full cast of six thrive! I've already seen some fun potential dynamics while reviewing characters, and I can't wait to see just what might come to life.
  15. Ok, Kotemon is ready and Lee is nearly there. Still WIP ready.
  16. Thank you! I am still learning too! It's cool. It's part of the process. He functions just fine, if a bit cumbersome, because of the amount of space the chair occupies. There are also chairs with a "stand" function, so he can reach up. Also, here are some videos. Barista Power Wheelchair Manual Wheelchair Out of topic, but a body builder I like Digi-Destined Resilience is just there to meet Defense caps. I can take it out. The past six years have been challenging but fruitful. Thaddeus owes Elmo's father a life debt. Although their parts have diverged, Thaddeus still reminisces about the time they spent together. Elmo was academically stifled for the first two years of his stay, but has since adapted to the new system. The pair has a monthly bonding activity of seeking out breakwaters and beaches, and capturing the sunset. There is a print copy waiting for Elmo on his graduation. The pair are unwillingly and unknowingly teaching each other the meaning and value of self-esteem and self-actualization. Thaddeus works as an art dealer as a front. Thaddeus acts as a captain, lieutenant, or middle manager for their cell of smugglers, corporate spies, or black market connections. Thad is bitter yet pining for his mentor figure. Sibling Benedict acted out, and got sent to juvie. With Aunt Coraline and Uncle George, sibling Ashley flourished as a professional swimmer in Australia. Sibling Benedict got out, and has been staying in a halfway house. Sibling Ashley got married and is expecting her first kid. Sibling Konrad has fallen into a rabbit hole of conspiracy theories. He is actively seeking out and following leads about their father's death. If the cast is more on the young side, I am toying with the idea of a shit-eating older peer, like Angelica from Rugrats. If the cast is more mature, maybe we can make the rival someone hypercompetent but misguided (from the PCs perspective). A lethal protector wannabe, a part of the old guard withholding secrets, or a secret agent working both sides. If you mean Close and Ranged Attack skills, I solely used Accurate on both Divine Pierces. Would you prefer I used skills instead? I was also thinking of not making Cross Barbee, Anthony, and Shirotsume Ichimonji as Devices.
  17. Don't stress it man, the creative process is fun! I can't tell you how many times I have flip-flopped regarding Lee's specifics.
  18. Sorry about the double point block, I meant to delete the older of the two. As for the equipment cost, the point cost was listed under equipment instead of advantage b/c of the way hero-sheet calculates the cost Sorry about the double point block, I meant to delete the older of the two. Oh sorry, I didn't type out the equipment advantage b/c the 2pp cost of the taser was listed in the pp breakdown by the hero-sheet program under equipment instead of advantages. I was also planning to have him just use his dex bonus for atk bonus for the taser. My thought is that since the taser DC is only 15 then its only going to be useful against targets that are easier to hit anyway. Really its just flavor to fit his 'nice guy but a survivor' theme, dealing with unsavory types without using lethal weapons. I might remove it actually since its awfully weak for something that takes 2pp. Good input. I'll flesh it out some more. I havn't gotten to the complications yet, I'm new to the system, but I will. :)
  19. It took me about a thousand years, but I've finally got this in something approaching a proper state. I prefer to avoid posting an application until I'm actually done with it, but in the interest of not missing the due date, I figured I'd post what I've got. I've been lurking on this game since before recruitment started, but I've had a hard time settling on a concept that didn't feel like it was stepping on toes. But M&M is my favorite system, and I have a critical nostalgia weakness for Digimon, so I had to make an attempt. So, here's Kyoka! I'm excited about how she turned out; interesting characterization, and fills a mechanical niche that I didn't see too much of. I also like that the art I found makes it look like she's wearing a classic Giants jacket, which she probably got from her dad. And, I think Lopmon has the potential to be really fun to play, with a lot of room to grow. She's got a broad element spread available to her, too; between Ice, Wind, Dark, and potentially Earth depending on how her being an Earth element affects her regular punches. Not to mention, she's adorable, and along with Terriermon is among my favorite Digimon. Let me know what you think!
  20. I plan on making this look as nice as Kyoka's app, but it's getting late and I have work in the morning. So, a HeroLab statblock will have to do for now, and I'll pretty it up when I'm next able to. I plan on following the traditional evolution route for Lopmon, going to Turuiemon, then Antylamon, then Cherubimon. I'm leaving the possibility of following the 'darker' line as an option, but it isn't where I'm leaning. 21. Endoh Kyoka Appearance Kyoka is tall for her age; always has been, and that's held true even through high school. She has light brown eyes, and wears her hair long. It's the one aspect of traditional femininity she allows herself, and she applies herself to it's maintenance as thoroughly as she does everything else. Her hair spends most of it's time bound up in baseball caps or tied in buns to stay out of the way for martial arts practice, but when she lets it down she's been told it's quite beautiful. She's built surprisingly solidly compared to many of her classmates. Long hours spent between the baseball diamond, judo dojo and just general gym-going have given her a surprising amount of muscle; not that you'd know it, given her propensity to wear more concealing clothing, opting for slacks over skirts, and wearing longer sleeves. It isn't exactly a secret; she competes on Takigawa High's baseball team, and participates in Kendo Club. But the looks she gets make her a little self-conscious, or maybe just annoyed. Kyoka's expression is usually rather neutral; or perhaps, placid is the right word. Not unapproachable, but a little distant. She dresses well, but comfortably, preferring sportswear and things that are easy to move in. Personality Kyoka is a girl best measured in degrees. Her first impression can be a little misleading. She's serious, but not stern. She's quiet, but not shy. She's confident, but not conceited. It takes a lot to get a reaction out of her, and whatever reaction you get will likely be a little muted. But she isn't depressed, though maybe a little repressed. She's very focused, and can be a little intense. But she can be perfectly friendly; in fact, one might go so far as to say she's pretty popular, as you might expect by being one of the best baseball players in the school. She has no problem talking to people, though she doesn't always have a lot to say. Put her on the field, or on the mat, though, and her demeanor changes. She can be downright fierce when she's got a challenge in front of her, and relentless in pursuit of conquering it. Any challenge is an opportunity to prove, and improve, herself, and she treats it with the severity that deserves. She's been called older than her years, sometimes no-nonsense, and she's known to be dependable by her teammates. She doesn't hang out with many people besides them; her schedule is just too busy. But if she calls you a friend, she means it, and is doggedly loyal. Her relationship to sports is a little fraught. It started in the way it does for many, as an after-school activity, but she always felt the pressure from her parents to commit, to excel. It helped that she was naturally quite talented; she did commit, and she does excel. But she hasn't spent much time thinking if she really wants to be doing this; she's wrapped up in the inertia and momentum. Her father's passing has made this more thorny; no one has said that she can't drop baseball without disrespecting her father's memory, but she certainly feels that way. And why should she drop it? She's good at it, very good. She could even go pro one day, if she wants to. Does she? Who's to say. It's hard to avoid thinking about the fact that there isn't as much room to grow in women's baseball as there is in men's; a fear she's not spoken much about. But if she's good enough, talented enough? She can't be ignored. Backstory Kyoka was born to mother Himari, and father Minato. They themselves were once quite in the public eye; Himari was a professional figure skater with Olympic prospects, and Minato was a professional baseball player, having a well-regarded but not exemplary tenure as part of the Yomiuri Giants. They were something of a power couple in their day; not the apex of their respective sports, but very driven to succeed, well-known and popular. Even more so together. Himari had largely retired by the time Kyoka was born, the rigors of Olympic competition having taken their toll. Minato continued to play well into Kyoka's childhood, supporting the family and earning the admiration of his daughter. Kyoka, for her part, excelled in sport from an early age, spurred onward by her parents. She favored soccer, though her father always wanted her to switch to baseball. She also started practicing kendo and judo quite young; it looks good on college applications, and is well-respected. Her parents weren't harsh, but they expected a lot from Kyoka, and she strove to meet their standards. Things began to change when Kyoka was in middle school. Her father, now having retired from the Giants, fell ill. His disease progressed quickly, though the family got to spend as much time together as possible. Kyoka, following her father's wishes, switched clubs to baseball; Minato got to see her play shortly before he was hospitalized, and she remembers the grin on his face well when he watched her slide to home. He passed shortly after. The time after her father's passing was turbulent; arrangements had to be made, and she was still young. It was hard to accept, hard to deal with. She retreated into athletics, both as a way to get away from the grief, as well as a way to feel closer to her father. She redoubled her focus, and she improved by leaps and bounds. By the time she entered high school, she was already better than many of her upperclassmen; a fact they took no pleasure in. It was difficult for any of them to do anything about it, though. Her talent spoke for itself, and she was largely immune to social pressures. What, were you going to bully the daughter of Endoh Minato, professional baseball player, because she was better than you at baseball? Come on, be serious. And even those who tried found a girl who was, frankly, unflappable. Even physical intimidation was fruitless; Kyoka's bi-weekly judo classes no secret. Things progressed as such until now, her senior year at Takigawa High. Kyoka is one of the team's star players; maybe the star. Her future looks bright, having already secured some athletic scholarships to prestigious schools. But her social calendar is a little sparse. One of her teammates, Haru, has gotten really excited about the new Digimon GO! game, and is bound and determined to get everyone else on the team to play. Kyoka has preregistered, though knows functionally nothing about Digimon outside of it's existence. Talents & Expectations Kyoka is meant to fill an interesting role on a Digimon cast; someone who is physically capable, both in athletics and in theoretical combat. The Digidestined are frequently imperiled, but it's not often that the threat can be punched into submission by a normal human. This is not a trend I intend on bucking with Kyoka. The premise of the franchise is that the human partners empower their Digimon to conquer foes through The Power of Friendship(or Courage, Sincerity, etc), and that still holds true for Kyoka. I don't anticipate her dukeing it out with Kuwagamon and such. Though, maybe a Numemon or Gotsumon. My hope is to explore her characterization and relationship to sport, her femininity, and her willingness to form friendships outside of her teammates, not obviate the need for a Digimon partner. However, to outline her talents and where I expect she'll fit in a team, she's fast, maneuverable, and reasonably strong. She's able to fight as a full PL5 character unarmed, excels in a grapple, and when equipped with a baseball bat, bokken, or similar club-like implement she deals higher damage. If we ever have to square up with some nefarious humans, or some low level Digimon who want to eat us while our partners are otherwise occupied, she's your gal. She also has high Acrobatics, Athletics, reasonable Perception and Insight, competent Throwing due to her sports background, and is capable at Stealth. When dealing with others her own age, her ranks in Cool give her quite an edge in Deception and Persuasion, falling back on her reputation, style, and status as an upperclassman. Adults still just see her as a kid still, though, so it doesn't work on them. Depending on team makeup, I could see her taking on something akin to a leader role, though that isn't where I excel as a player. But with some points to spend, I could see her taking ranks in Inspire or Leadership, to fill out that Gogglehead position. Occasionally that can be a benefit, and occasionally it makes her life a little more complicated. • Relationship - Kyoka is very close to her mother, and does her best to help her when she needs it. • Responsibility - Between school, her extracurricular activities, and the classes she takes outside of school, Kyoka's schedule is pretty busy. Her mother expects her to do well in all of them, and would notice if things started slipping. • Rivalry - While not as fiery as her teammates, she takes the rivalries between Takigawa High's baseball team and the teams from other schools seriously. She wants to make sure her school does well.
  22. Fair. I was kind of trying to go for a general "thinks fast" (but isn't necessarily faster on his feet) concept between that, Speed of Thought, and the Quick Thinking power, but 2 might be overkill. I'll drop it to 1 and move a point elsewhere. I was trying to go for a theme of "always has to take care of everything he needs himself"/"out on his own for the first time in his life" with that one given the backstory elements of having moved to a whole new city far away from his family just a few years ago. I'm totally fine dropping it if it's redundant with the game themes since we're all older protags anyway, but that was my intention, that unlike most Digimon protagonists he can't just drop by home for a ready-to-eat meal, nor can he afford to eat out regularly, so he has to find the time to shop and cook and all of that other stuff in between whatever adventure chaos we get into (and between classes and the like). I was fighting to keep it short (as most GM's I've applied to games for didn't want too much text to wade through) so if you want more, I can do that no problem :P. I'll focus some more on the current situation and add a paragraph or two.
  23. You could be right about her age, I did a quick google search on becoming a cop in japan when I was making her though and I think its just barely possible. I can just age her up a bit though. Oh and her having trouble getting to play the game while on duty was actually something I also thought could make for an interessting complication, especially since you've been alluding to the game being more than just a game. It could be cool to see her have to choose between her responsibilities as an officer and her responsibilites to her digimon/the digital world if that exists here. As far as her experience so far has gone I'd say it probably isn't fully living up to her expectations. Rin definetly had an idealised view of what being an officer would be like so I would immagine to reality isn't quite what she had hoped. Loogarmon's tracking only working in the game would make sense and his attacks have the accurate modifier which is where the +8 is comming from.
  24. That's a good question. It's not common, but due to the way high schools are set up in Japan, some students do end up living alone in single-person apartments away from their parents. The way I see it, it's part of the complicated relationship Shiori has with her mother; despite her controlling and coddling behavior, Aoi does love her daughter and want her to succeed. She saw that Shiori was not making friends or finding connections in Hokkaido (what Shiori calls her "failing"), and Takigawa High is actually a good school with decent prospects, so eventually she gave in to Shiori's pleas. Shiori's parents would pay her rent and groceries; this would allow her mother to exert control from afar, by threatening to cut off the payments and/or move her back to Hokkaido if she didn't call her mother at regular times and report on her days. Thanks! I think it fits well. I added Innate to the power; it makes more sense that way, I agree. I had extra points, and I'm never good about keeping some in reserve. If I remove Inspire 4 and take 1 of those PP to purchase Innate, I'll have 3 PP left over, which I think I'll try to reserve for the actual game. Sounds good; I enjoyed the idea of her learning programming "languages" as languages, but it isn't necessary. I changed her third language to Mandarin Chinese. Since her father is away on "business trips" a lot, I like the idea of him working often in China and her learning Chinese as a roundabout and ultimately futile way to connect to him. Right, the elements! Bacomon is Neutral, as a creature wrapped in cardboard. I made "Gum Roll" Earth (rooting an enemy to the ground with tape and trapping them) and "Transdelivery" Metal (something something shipping containers is the idea, mostly). Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to see!
  25. I am still interested, things have just been real busy for me. EDIT: Okay, got some basic stuff written up. EDIT 2: Remembered about elements and things. Wasn't really sure what to do with them though, predominantly because I wasn't sure if Light meant 'holy' (and was therefore associated with Vaccine) or if it was just generic light. I could see Liollmon being Neutral, Light or potentially even Electric (based on its 'static electricity enemy detection' thing). Its attacks I just left as neutral, although I could see Lio Claw at least being [Metal] instead, those claws don't exactly look like normal keratin.
  26. Yeah I've got everything in my head I just need to get in on the page. Yes the languages are Spanish, English, and Japanese. For Digimon she probably played a gen or two (assuming it has those) as a kid but her picking up GO is intended by her to be a bit of a break and change of pace just going around having fun leaning into it as a streamer meeting people on the street not "I wanna be he very best like no one ever was" top of the ranks deep in the meta etc. Living situation will be a fancy apartment HQ via Equipment points but I wanted to ask if I could place an HQ in an Array with a vehicle (probably a motorcycle) since they almost by definition can't be used at the same time. Other Equipment will probably be a camera with the idea its a more serious professional sort of media rig and some misc stuff. Parents I like to do something more awkward then hostile. Like they never would have set Isa on the path she took, but its hard to argue with success and they're aware they sort of obviated their authority... but everytime they tried to nail Isa down for a heart to heart she was the one too busy and they probably thinks she hates them now so don't want make things worse so sure it just sort of lingers in the background even though everyone secretly wants to be on good terms. Because irony. As for Bakumon primary powers will probably be a mix of Healing, Affliction, and Deflect so a pseudo-Cleric. Eating nightmares to make you feel better, spitting them out for offense, and using that Holy Ring. Also totally a big scarcedy tapir-thing but brave when it counts.
