Detailed Description

Space is supposed to be infinite freedom of exploration and possibilities, and once might be. Unfortunately for you, Space is several hubs on an uninhabitable planet where you spend 6 months a year. doing mostly repetitive tasks. In the beginning, it was, new, and exciting..it had a spark. Now it fell into the same routine you've fallen into on Earth or the brief year and a half you spent terraforming Mars. You watch through a small window, the last docking procedures being done, almost not noticing the enormous hab structure that will be your home for the next half a year. As one of the Docking Administration Department or D.A.D., your eyes almost rolled in your head the first time you heard the acronym. You almost don't notice it anymore, you idly stand while airlocks get attached, the familiar sound of pressurization. For the last time scroll through the items on your hand deck in preparation for meeting your counterpart, as always eager to get off this symbolic prison and thusly forgetting at least half a dozen procedures. You stopped blaming them long ago, actually since the first time you did the same thing. You were automatically obeying instructions A.I. (they should start calling it something else, they were close to real A.I. as they were to speed of light travel. Mentally preparing for the excited buzz of the chattering of the crew you were revealing. They were always at least a dozen early birds not being able to wait for an official transfer, just excited to talk to someone new. Double doors finally opened and you wearily raised your head to catch a glimpse of your counterpart. Complete silence hit you like a hammer, and you had no idea why. After all, everything seemed in order, automatized manual labor worked as normal transferring the material and supplies from their ship in the magazines, and all lights and life support systems were seemingly working at optimum capacity. Only you stared at the docking bay completely devoid of one Human being. No "early birds", no your D.A.D. counterpart, nobody. You automatically used your security clearance to enter the computer mainframe and run diagnostics for any errors. While all messages returned in soothing green, you felt cold sweat cover your forehead and palms. In those soothing green letters wrote:

ALL SYSTEMS WORK AT OPTIMUM CAPACITY

AREAS FOR ARRIVAL OF THE SHIFT 141 WERE BEEN SANITIZED AND READY FOR TRANSFER COMPLETION

TRANSFER OF PERSONAL ITEMS, SCIENTIFIC EQUIPMENT, AND SPECIALIZED PARTS 64% COMPLETED

ESTIMATED TIME UNTIL COMPLETION 47 MINUTES 27 SECONDS 452 MILLISECONDS

The last two lines were what froze her blood

Hannah Nilsen realized that something extraordinary just happened in her mundane life, at the same time she realized that now when it did she did not like it. She did not like it one bit.

  1. What's new in this game
  2. I coming to find out that the hardest thing on Bldr is to actually START the game. 😅
  3. I'm generally okay from my side. Really looking to see how everybody else is.
  4. @Thramzorean, @Fiery Gift, @Root O.K. it would see we stalled a bit I gave it a few weeks but I see no changes. Any particular issue?
  5. Ok, your specialist equipment is in, poke me if you have some more ideas
  6. Malcom doesn't have to be in a resistance movement per se. I'm thinking this as budding concepts, the birth of what might be one day, a Jupiter republic or something. It could well be the current economic and political scenario makes it completely unfeasible, the outer systems only the playground of the ultrarich nation equivalent corps who have the resources to support the ventures. Or it could be ripe for change, the solar system littered with small private enterprises, unregistered prospectors and independent space stations - it's this sort of aspect I'm trying to get a feel for.
  7. I kinda messed around with examples, but while things are not on Shadowrun, Cyberpunk (whatever edition, I didn't play it actually I'm Shadowrun acolyte 😜 ) levels when it comes to corporate independence that they could arm their forces with power armor and Vulcan guns, as sole owners of everything there they are responsible for security. Since by now, they haven't run into anything good shotgun into chest couldn't solve, there saw no need to go through all stringent (and pricey) applications to raise the security level (at least legally, it is completely possible that corps have special corp teams armed with greatest and deadliest to fight movements as yours on he planets, placing one of those on the moon where even rebels understand that stray bullet could f'up entire complex and in aftermath, Axe/Telecom conglomerate would turn their money machine painting your guys in such way that good ol' dead Osama and Sadan would look like Mr. Rogers. I mean I'm in for your guy is some kind of resistant movement but, being careful is the name of the game. Your guy would have to be so good as to be indispensable or have a cover that would send CiA and FSB agents to separate corners with "Dunce" caps. I mean background checks would out of sheer need have to be extremely stringent. Let's move from Anti-Intel Revolutionary landing on Intel Moon to stealing their stuff, disrupting their economy, and uploading architecture for their new processor. And go down to the common slime of the earth. They allow serial Rapists, to place on one side the percentage of such kind of crime that goes unreported, combined with the percentage of "slap on the wrist" punishment. Throw both of those under the bus. Just think about this, a real specialized unit is 6 months away. They have Security but fir all the specialized stuff they would have to ask people who might be qualified but it is not their job. They might know to work out DNA in their sleep but more simpler stuff like taking a Rape Kit was not really covered there. Too many other such examples. Why not just place them there then? Real cops, real hospitals... the same reason your guy joined the resistance. This is run by corporations, not governments, and even the lowest form of both. Police outpost with a few cops and a Medical Centre instead of a Hospital. (I know a bit about second, we had a Medical Centre until somewhere between 2005-07 and got upgraded to a Hospital. There were so many celebrations and Found out about all stuff we couldn't do before even if we had doctors. For example, no deliveries here even if we had not one but 2 teams certified for it, no hernia operations, wanna glasses...to bad pay up to the private clinic or travel 2 hours etc. There are many things that once you dive into minutia are nightmares.
  8. No worries then. I'll just do a little rework in my backstory guff if needed down the track regards solarography and names if needed.   One thing I did want to work into Malcom's background is a budding rebel. Someone who despises the corporate monopolies and their greed and figures there should be a better way to go about things, thus the security/politics angle. Not sure what to leverage there.
  9. I don't mean fantasizing about moons but corporations, moons will be one of those two. As for security, it's not an army, by (allowed) weapons you can see that they are on average weaker equipped than U.S. Police Force. I mean why is Security needed at Walmart? These are two corporations that had security in one or another capacity since they are founded, for them just following the same template makes sense, it worked for them so far. Not to mention that isolation that long can lead to larger abuse of alcohol and other stimulants and an increase in rowdiness. Basically, it's just another coin of why workers have entertainment available, both branches are there to basically keeps them calm. If you can't let out your aggression through the movie, laser tag game. Mortal Kombat 209878 installment, your aggression will be curbed by gentle shock batons of our security force while you yell "Don't taze me bro!!" in a glorious 64k solid 3D hologram someone placed on the facility web for everyone to laugh at...and think twice before they were captured in the same situation. 😉
  10. Don't know about the rest of you but in some ways I prefer the actual moons, rather than fantasizing them. Keep the solar system as is immediately makes for a background we can grasp.   How about politics/conflict... any particular reason why security is needed?
  11. Nope Not yet, I haven't decided on names, Same as moons. I don't want it to be too close to real names I settled on one of two Moons. IoWiki Facts: Distance to Earth: 628.3 million km Gravity: 1.796 m/s² Radius: 1,821.6 km Orbital period: 42 hours Unique facts: Io takes 1.77 Earth-days to orbit Jupiter. Io is tidally locked, so the same side always faces Jupiter. Size: Io has a mean radius of 1,131.7 miles (1,821.3 km) making it slightly larger than Earth's moon. It has a slightly elliptical shape, with its longest axis directed toward Jupiter Atmosphere: Io's very thin atmosphere is primarily sulfur dioxide, which on Earth is sometimes used to preserve dried food. Impact craters: Io has no impact craters even though it has a rocky, solid surface. The surface must be very young because something has erased the impact craters. Even though Io has nearly the same size (3643 km across) and density (3.53X water) as the Moon, Io is the most geologically active world in the solar system. Lowest temperature: A typical day on Io reaches temperatures up to -225 F and at night reaches a low of -300 F. There is a very strong radiation belt of electrons and ions trapped in Jupiter's magnetic field that affects Io's atmosphere. Google Map Of Io EuropaWiki Facts Europa, or Jupiter II, is the smallest of the four Galilean moons orbiting Jupiter, and the sixth-closest to the planet of all the 95 known moons of Jupiter. It is also the sixth-largest moon in the Solar System. Gravity: 1.315 m/s² Distance to Earth: 628.3 million km Radius: 1,560.8 km Orbital period: 85 hours Surface area: 3.09×107 km2 (0.061 Earths) Surface pressure: 0.1 µPa (10−12 bar) Temperature: Temperatures range from as high as approximately 140 Kelvin (about -210 degrees Fahrenheit) in dark material at the moon's equator to as low as approximately 50 Kelvin (-370 degrees Fahrenheit) in bright icy patches at the moon's poles. Learn more about Europa here. Composition: Structure. Like our planet, Europa is thought to have an iron core, a rocky mantle, and an ocean of salty water. Unlike Earth, however, Europa's ocean lies below a shell of ice probably 10 to 15 miles (15 to 25 kilometers) thick, and has an estimated depth of 40 to 100 miles (60 to 150 kilometers). Unique facts: The Latest. Scientists are almost certain that hidden beneath the icy surface of Europa is a salty-water ocean thought to contain twice as much water as Earth's oceans combined. And like Earth, Europa is thought to also contain a rocky mantle and iron core. Google Map Of Europa I included some Wiki facts about them in OOC as the Google maps (I must say Zoom them managed to get is sick) Bothe have pluses and minuses volcanos VS basically working on top of 100 Miles deep ocean waiting to wake up one of Cthulu's cousins. I narrowed to those two since they are cool enough size-wise, While Ganymede and Calisto are too dang big. These two are the perfect size for adventure.   As the name of corpos they are joint ventures between Science and Mining Sectors so the name would likely be something like Enron-Pfizer Ventures 😂 Also there would be obviously different outlooks from both sides. Miners just want to finish their 6 months pick up their (hefty) paycheck and enjoy themself during their 6 months off. While scientists are obviously more enthusiastic about their job. I mean imagine if we chose Europa possibility to find life in all that water underneath, so while there is no tension one side finds the other section weird. Who knows how that went if crap hit the industrial ventilator who knows how well it went, I mean unless all took a relaxing walk at the Planetlight at Balmy -210 Ferenhait or 140 Kelvin or-135 Celsius.
  12. Is there a name of our current employers? Hope I haven't missed it somewhere...
  13. For some reason, so far with both quote and clone, I had the best experience with CtrlA CtrlC and then pastinh
  14. Pls don't mind me on the Equipment fred. Just playing with the tables.
  15. Specialized Kits Biological testing kit and materials This might be maybe the best representation of a highly specialized kit for which you'd need high clearance. In this, you have basically all tools and materials to destroy the planet 10 times over if you know how and probably more if you don't Anything and everything Bio related is here. From Earth, samples to tools to make more so you don't run out and to have a control group. This would not be "one mans domain" so to speak. While naturally there would be a lead scientist. And most would have a general idea about everything most staff would have designated specialists. As stuff that comes it's more a lab than a kit in the regular sense of the word. Several protocols would have to be followed just to enter and exit. Everything from biohazard suits, to mechanical hands for remote handling of dangerous materials in secured chambers. Think of it it's either included to you can make it. Augments and Shell kit Another one that is more like a lab than the conventional kit. Basically in short, while one is centered on organic this one is on machine and interaction between tw Here are made improved augumetics and shells and their connections to their human operators so it is closely tied to the previous field. Especially to the best way to seamlessly connect nerve and machine. Among regular toys like advanced tools that can basically connect a nerve to an automatic arm one by one with precision now we do basic. There are even more advanced stuff in research. Like "wireless connection to shells that are hypothesized would completely remove the risk that now causes almost 87% of accidents and 100% fatalities. This is a cutting edge research but it is still in its infancy. Robotics kit   Some things are still too dangerous and some are just too mundane like file stacking and cataloging. Need for robots actually in far space increased instead of decreased. While On Earth, Mars, or Venus where is an ethical issue comes with cutting people's jobs and problems that brings if you put that in the context of a place that is hundreds of millions of miles from first help suddenly the prospect that robots do that job is much more appealing. hence the field improved by leaps and bounds. Mainly since these are industrial machines made to do a job which made the idea of anthropomorphizing them obsolete basically overnight. The form is given way to the function almost completely, while robots more usually seen by humans are made to be more "eye pleasing" that usually stops at the level where the car would be eye pleasing. Sleeker lines and since such models are also usually less air resistant it still has the practical purpose. Mechanics and Engineers are closely tied to robotics but one branch is so close that is nearly inseparable AI investigation and research kit Where Augs and Bios go together so do Robotics and AI. Some disciplines simply complement each other. Those who enjoy simplicity would say that AI provides brains for robot bodies so they can function, in return, AI gets an inexhaustible amount of "puppets" to perfect their designs. And while that is a perfectly adequate answer it's far from complete since the connection between the two branches is much more intimate and deeper than that. Now best signifier of how intimate two agencies are is the fact that key cards for one will open the access to the other one to the same level of authorization, which is unprecedented in other branches. Sharing of key access is common but to exact same level show trust not often shared between scientists. Some see Robotics as the "Junior partner" in the arrangement, after all their machines would be just hunks of metal between programing. However those who pay close attention to advance of both disciplines would notice incredible synchronicity, when one leaps forward others soon follow and vice versa. Most prestigious AI scientists surpassed human capabilities in synthetic form and some for years exclusively work with robotic experts, because you don't take something valuable, possibly unreplicable, and slap it in just anything. Housing for it goes beyond just custom it's like both are grown together. Closest we got to real AI ever but housing has to be perfect not just to satisfy power needs, gadget housing, but also to simply withstand processing power without melting. There are 6 known programs like that, 2 belong to countries (Western Confederation and Greater Asian Alliance) while the other 4 are private enterprises. Medicine Testing Kit This is about as ominous as its name can imply, you are in a hostile environment with limited personnel. If something goes wrong, the amount of even possibly exposed personnel is limited, and in the greater scope of things, barely perceptible blips on more powerful private telescopes that are limited and one station less. Contagion avoided. Man likes to play God, and that will never change for all our chest-puffing about enlightenment. This is Bio Weapon Lab, short and simple. Likely most closely watched and with the most stringent measures in place. Every horror you can think of is thought about and many are made real in places like these and the amount of clearances for it is VERY limited. For those few (un)lucky to get into one of those would find that you are not only breaking all treaties signed on Earth (well, because you are not on it anymore) but behind relatively inocent name. Doctors are maybe 1/5 of personnel. Remaining are from all other branches, Engeeneer, AI experts, Robotic experts, basically a mix of the brightest from all fields. Second thing is the this one shack among hundreds of shacks is protected so heavy that it would likely be able to defend the colony from anything except overt and highly visible obliteration from space. These were no toys. Hell, these were no soldiers. The lightest trooper would be AX1 Power Suited one. Hermetically sealed in Ceramic, titanium. ceramic sandwich with tungsten mesh between layers. 450 kilograms without weapons. This is relative considering it has a Shoulder-Mounted with 150 caliber "Sable" rounds and a back tank with 500 of them, with a clamp for another tank. If that is light what is heavy you ask. Affectionately called "The Hound" weapon platform. Quadriped bringer of destruction with 4 hermetically sealed operators, 8 rocket launchers with selectable ammo. 12 auto guns with selectable ammo, 24 Heavy Draw lasers, and 36 aforementioned Vulcan cannons reactive, nuclear-graded armor. With 3 more variants between, and about 40 various turrets. On one hand, platform was very well protected, on another they weren't certified for Vulkan Gun alone let alone the rest of the arsenal. Engineer Brigade Kit Engineers in the same way previous were doctors. Highly specialized demolition and anti-demolition units. Capable of making your comfy Hab into a fortress within 48 hours. Everything army Engeener should have from trusty trench shovels, to even knives saw more change. This is a foldable piece of an incredibly sturdy piece of metal. With a shovel at the top. One thing they did add is an adjustable temperature so soldiers don't have to dig in -300 with frozen shovel or +300 with shovel that burning through your gloves, small battery is added at one of the folds that is nothing at first look but that is actually miniature nuclear generator, so...be careful with it. Benefits it will heat your top and only top to glowing red in freezing temperatures and cool the same top to blue cold in volcanic conditions. One thing that hasn't changed nor it should to is that the tip of the shovel is so sharp you could with some elbow grease behead an enemy combatant in melee. Scout Kit Same as the few above this one is of dubious civilian use since there are literally Shells for that Scouts as their name says are fast, hard to spot, and very good at spotting you. 3 pieces of equipment are what make Scout a Scout. One is their "steed" militarized version of anti-grav dirt bikes. To achieve the anti-grav feature they are stripped to bare essentials. Some customize them further until they are basically 3 anti grav units with steering capability. Military compliant is not that much better, they have added 3 front pieces of armor but so thin that stopping anything larger than a normal officer issue handgun is more luck than anything. Where they excel at is speed reaching 200 kilometers per hour (125 mph) regularly regardless of terrain because they are not on terrain. With their "modifications" it is common to reach up to 200 (mph) or 322 kph...or explode trying it since removing front armor is just the start of modifications. However, it is true if well trained "pack" is on your trail you are as good as dead. "Pack" comes from the fact they are always in 3's and I larger ops it's possible to get up to 4 of them. So 12-speed freaks on your tail. The second thing is the special binoculars worn by the leader. Among all normal binocular things, there is a special connection made or more precisely stolen from specialized units that read audio as a picture at the maximum distance they could "see" for example armor company. behind the hill without exposing themselves and going up. The third specialized thing is a sniper rifle what makes it special is that it's several hundred years old and adapted for use in space. With some more adaptation to optics. But take that gun and shove it in the hand of some poor bastard in Red Army and he'll maybe be a bit confused by pieces here and there but once he tries out optics you will have some trouble taking it off him. Only they use this gun and revere it above everything else. Shields and armor can stop the bullet, it is not magic after all. But its stopping power is unmatched for it's size and while armor will hold, seals on the suit less so, as eyes slits but 3-4k feet it's a dead zone by everyone but heavies armored and important targets rarely are. General Kits Electronic Tool Kit Very General Kit for Anyone expected to work on working on maintaining smaller places. Buildings, Stores, Street Lamps. It lacks any specialized gear you couldn't buy in a store. Tool Examples: Soldering Kit, Stripe Attachment for attaching lamp on the forehead, Optional safety helmet that the previous rig can also be attached, lamp able to be attached on the previous rig (helmet or without) or to chest depending on the pace, General meter that's able to measure all various things about electricity. Voltage, Amperage... Access Card for the electric grid of the area they are supposed to work in, Universal Tool (common tool in many fields that's able to create a variety of screwdrivers, pliers, scissors basically any tool unspecialized tool size of a common screwdriver, Heavy Duty special Clothes that does not conduct electricity... Engineer Toolkit The equivalent of the previous kit but for regular maintenance workers. The staple of office workers maintenance staff, Living hab maintenance crews, and Store Maintenance Crews. It's very common to see previous two workers going together due to lot of overlap and where is one needed other usually is too Universal Tool (same as above), various hammers up to 5 pounders, Three common compounds that basically use the same purpose but for different appliances, Ferrocrete, Ceramic Concrete and Carbon Foam in the shape of the gun with 15 pounds reservoirs, while in the vacuumed reservoir all three materials are white paste but in contact with the oxygen they harden within 15 minutes all three are used for fixing (usually temporary until specialized crews arrive with machinery) various holes cracks and various breakages, Ferocrete is technically strongest of three but as the name suggests it's Iron compound and hence prone to both rust and can't be used near the electric installation, Ceramic Concrete is significantly less durable then Ferrocrete but it's rust-resistant, electricity doesn't go through it, it's relatively light compared with Ferrocrete...so it's by far most often used for quick fixes. Its weakness is that is brittle, so an adequate repair crew has to show up within 48 h at most. Carbon Foam was hailed as a miracle material when it was invented now several hundred years ago and compared to the other two it is most often seen by various industries, but Engeeneer uses it do to her incredible weight-to-toughness ratio. But what most people fail to understand is that such property is actually usable only by various industries (so far computer industry was the largest adopter changing between 60-80 of other precious metals. The microchip industry depends on it completely and due to the abundance of Carbon, we have near infinite if not actually infinite supply. What people fail to understand is the weight-to-ratio formula. Carbon Foam is currently the toughest known material. What most people don't understand is to match weight to the ratio of for example block of Aluminium in berfect square shape. Carbon Foam beats it in weight to toughness ratio but Carbon Foam is so Light that 1 kilogram would be approximately 300x300 ft cube. So it's currently used in extremely small quantities when it can change both Cobalt and Silica in microchips making them much more affordable, lighter, and performance getting better and better. Or Incredibly large projects. Unmanned containers that carry essential stuff through the universe went from tens of tons to a couple of hundred pounds. But seeing it used in everyday items like plates, cars, and windows on houses is still far. Engineers use it when the weight is a large issue (The window panel on a skyscraper cracked and they need something to hold it together, Carbon Foam is what will be used 9 times out of 10 because it doesn't present extra strain on the window and is tough enough to hold it. But time is a larger factor than Ceramic Concrete we are talking hours now. If there is no specialized team within 5-8 hours area, controlled destruction of the panel might be the only option, little a known fact that both Engineers and Electricians carry basically the same clothes From the Headlight to the non-conductive suit. The second fact that few people know is that Engineers by percentile crush even security when it comes to home/office access. Everyone needs handymen. Excavation Tool Kit Now we are slowly encroaching into the specialist territory. While on Earth and Mars, this is a fairly routine job, on the moon is a different story. So this basic kit is for planets, although for Venus s more siphoning than excavating The first thing here is vehicles, people attached drill to everything they could to. From Regular Oil rigs on Earth and Mineral Rigs on Mars, one would think they would have nothing to look at Venus. There are currently 135 functional rigs on Venus that siphon some of the precious gasses from the atmosphere. The second things are maps of tectonic plates and things that go boom. Excavation teams are second only to the Army Engineering teams when it comes to explosives they have bombs of the size of an average Pickup Truck to the strips of usually 24 condom-sized sticky pieces of plastic explosive used for incredibly precise jobs. That skyscraper panel. It's said that the average Excavation Team can make a controlled explosion that will not only blow all glass inside but have all glass around remain intact. Laser Cutting Kit In space where no one can hear us squeal from excitement we finally get the chance to play with lasers and whacky as it might sound it is usually the cheapest option. Considering you don't need that pesky oxygen, fuel, etc. Just electricity which we in space have in abundance and the greenest one on God's white Europa. Nuclear baby. Just shove a few more rods into that generator and all toys are ready to go. (If some Nuclear Physicist read this he'll go catatonic 😂 ) You want then, you got them, Big lazors, small razors, medium razors, computer operated lasors all shiny cutting death machines you could ever want and all you need to use them is one of hardest schools in our system and 3rd highest Access Card. There is everything from Laser Drill and Laser Cutting Gear, over Laser Welding Machine to Laser Scalpel, after all, docs have to get their rocks off from time to time Mechanic Basic Kit Awkward Middle Child between Engineering and Electronics Ugly but true. There is still stuff too primitive but necessary. While some of these things Engeeneer maybe could figure out ever since Wrench and Hammer clashed for the first time. Mechanics hide the secrets of their trade like they are Adeptus Mechanicus, from tuning up vehicles, plumbing, fixing washing machines they carved the niche for themselves even in stars Basic Rescue Tool Set Since they are people, they are people who find themselves in trouble. These boys, girls and shells are here to pull you ass out of the fire Even basic rescue equipment advanced since our visit to space. Everything from gravity-adjusting belts To mag boots, ladders that weigh several pounds and can extend 50 feet, Life-saving masks, 5 different grades of habitats from humble self-sealing tents to fully automatically built composite metal bungalows with r sleeping rooms and joined areas. By necessity, their tools are a mishmash of tools from other kits, Portable Laser Cuter, inescapable Auto Tool, headlight etc Basic Medic Kit usually found on the belts of at least one member of the Rescue Team and wherever you would find a first aid kit, this hangs instead. As expected everything you'd find in a regular 21 century First Aid Kit. Just more advanced. A few doses of broad-spectrum antibiotics, non-opioid painkillers, an automatic blood extractor with the most common diseases downloaded in its generous sized data bank, epi-pens, several antitoxins, and several injection pens for most common needs, an automatic tourniquet, several antitoxins, and few other stuff, but nothing here will change visit to a doctor ASAP
  16. Two more are in the pipeline, one is tools of the trade and who would have access to what, and the second is augmentation, it takes longer because I kinda fell into augmentation VS slotted removal stuff. For example, you didn't remove your entire eye but augmented it to a certain degree that might be valuable to your job, zoom in to 5x, have the ability to see in different wavelengths, x-ray stuff like that and that is your eye now hence augment, on the other hand, you have a slot on the back of your head that have a certain number that is not really space more amount of programs you can run on it. Say you have one that is Processor strength 5 and that is permanent so argument right? But by itself, it doesn't do a thing, but you can say place a security program that would take up 2 spaces and protect your hand deck from hacking making it extremely hard to hack you but it takes up 2 spaces and you have 3 left to say for your job it is useful to have advanced translation program since depending how advanced you wanna go it can be nearly indistinguishable from a native speaker, it would understand slang and IMO hardest things to translate jokes, especially inside jokes from your field but that one would run you 3 remaining slots. So you have basically an antivirus and translator that would translate in basically real-time and you'd be able to answer in basically real-time even if you actually don't talk the language, pretty handy overall. Now you are not CEO but you do have some sensitive data on your deck that could allow hackers to move up the food chain so to speak and find better targets. By this point in the future max amount is 10 and say hacker gets close to you with a highly specialized piece of software that would take up all 10 slots it is not random but highly targeted to say instead of digging randomly just pick up all your passwords. you 2 security would not have a chance and those are just a few examples I already made 12 different ones. Now unlike "plug-in" where you slot them, I wouldn't call those guys since knowledge doesn't stay as soon as you replace them thing they are made for is gone. That guy wouldn't be a master hacker, nor you would speak and understand that language anymore so I'm thinking of placing them into separate tables as programs. "Plug-in" would still be aug but programs would have their own table so until that is sorted out I'm thinking of placing tools first since they are clean, tonight or early tomorrow morning. They would come in two ways kits like PF and individual items. So say Fiery need Bioengineering Kit that has almost everything he needs but he's like to have Night Vision goggles that are not in it so that he can pick them up individually. Sorry for taking up a bit longer but until I got to Tools and the rest I realized Armor and Weapons were baby stuff, just Tools is massive, with over 30 items Kits included and they alone have 6-10 items on average. I should've respected that isolated Hub would need a bunch of Tools.
  17. As I mentioned Stats are more a bit flavor to the character, peak at Thram's app and see how he organized skills and go ham, of course, there is always a limit but try to have at least 3 skills per "tier", don't forget they are what give you the main amount of mod points. You are a science type who dabbles with a lot of biology stuff. try to think about yourself as a bio-engineer type so you could be able to make or have at your disposal already a certain amount of stuff that would raise some of your skill. Think of them as Alchemist mutagens, give you +5 to Str or Int. Stuff that is factory produced and tested won't have any negative effects while those you make, depending on how large a bonus you are aiming for might have also minuses exactly as mutagens. So I'd kinda pair them up if you are out of your depth potion/injection to raise Int would lower your Str and vice versa, You could be real Bruce Banner type when Hulk was a dummy.😂 You are on the good path just go "off the reservation" a bit. After all when again you'll be able to pick any skill you can think off. Like weaponizing farts or something.
  18. As a general comment I like the two floating +1 points. Always prefer giving players as much flexibility as possible. I like the narrative route for free form damage. Forget trying to calculate numbers and track them.
  19. It's a good point, the tools of ones trade. I'm wondering if Malcom wouldn't have an early nanoswarm, something to be able to stitch nerve endings to electric or optical wire switches, that kind of thing. Vision enhance goggles. Rather than a monoblade I think a miniature laser cutter. Hand held that could cut and weld. We're pretty much there already so this wouldn't be a stretch.
  20. List of "pet projects"   Gunpowder Ooze. Being developed by Dr Ray to create a life form to help with mining. https://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/oozes/ooze-gunpowder/   Colour out of Space. Being worked on to be used as a weapon to eliminate unwelcome aliens cleanly. https://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/oozes/colour-out-of-space/
  21. Some type of portable life scanner would be nice. A device that Dr Ray could run over someone and check their vitals. If he has to use a stethoscope, sphygmomanometer, and thermometer, I guess that is ok, but I'm sort of leaning a little closer to Star Trek in my visualization of this.   A device to give injections of medicines to other creatures.   I'd like to have a bandage kit of some type. Living bandages that absorb the blood and then grow into replacement skin and tissue would be super cool, but I would be ok with having those be one of Dr Ray's experiments and using regular bandages until he can get them.   A technological equipment of "periapt against poison", but for alien life. Instead of gem that starts glowing if poison is nearby, a light starts glowing if an alien virus or microbe is detected.
  22. His primary skills are Medicine and Medical Technology. For my concept he really shines in this area. He can do surgeries if needed and understands complicated biological processes. He'd also need to have a strong grasp of Pharmacology, but maybe that falls under medicine?   I'd like him to be able to predict behavior of organisms to a certain degree. I tried to reflect that in Wisdom, but where he may make poor choices in terms of what he is "growing" in his lab, I didn't want to build that stat too high.
  23. I'm not exactly sure how it was intended. With 27 points this is what I came up with. His best physical attribute is toughness. He's smart and charismatic enough to get his ideas bought off.   Base Abil Score Mod Points 27           Str 8 -1 Dex 10 +0 Con 14 +2 Int 15 +2 Wis 13 +1 Cha 12 +1
  24. I'm trying to figure out bonuses yet because while we used 5E point buy it's not 5E game. I'm open to suggestions. We can do 2 free-floating points, and have bonus points tied to the profession (Malcom would have +2 to intelligence for example) We can have a mix 2 points tied to the profession and 2 free-floating that could be split into two 1 points to put wherever. Or not have them at all. It's up to the 3 of you what you think it is best. There is no starting cap so you can go as high as you want place all points in Intelligence and leave all other at 8 fine by me. But on the flipside 8 is the minimum so no dumping some stat to 2. We should decide how to decide health I saw a few interesting options around freeform games. We can go the classic HP route since we have Constitution. But we can figure something else out. For example, I saw one game deducting Physical points starting from Str and Dex (players choice so melee character could knock Dex first and ranged Str), once those 2 falls to 0 Character is unconscious and further attacks go after his Con, and once that hit 0 he is dead. We can go a more narrative route like DJ with Healthy, Barely Injured, Injured, Severely Injured, and Dead. Deciding severity in the narrative, Redshirt No1 eats a revolver shot to his dome, no matter it's like 8 damage, it's 8 damage to his head he is either Severely Injured if he is lucky or dead. If he ate the same shot to his leg then 8 damage would be enough for Injured while 4 or less would be Barely Injured and so on. If you have some ideas about that voice them. We can hammer out some new way together.
  25. Hmmm... I wonder if you could manage a true free form with no complaint about our decisions 😁 But in truth it's more what you're comfortable with Grudge, in terms of how you prefer to best manage it going forward. No doubt DJ had personal reasons for the 27 point buy and structure. In 5e do we get a floating +2 to add to an attribute?
