Okay the Thanksgiving holidays were busier than I anticipated so I probably won't actually have time to finish and post my application here, unfortunately. Good luck to everyone, though! <3

This looks really cool! Depending on my schedule I may apply. I have this character concept from a game with friends, but I'm not sure if it's too niche... she's an Ahrimanes who took that merit that changes out one of your clan disciplines for Setite Sorcery because you were tutored by a Witch of Echidna. I liked the combo mechanically and thematically with an Ahrimanes being corrupted into a cult for the Mother of Monsters. But would a bloodline + a merit for an alternate discipline be too much "special snowflake" on one character here?

  I’m thinking her powers will be based on her most common reality warps, with Quirks or Limits to reflect that they’re driven by external expectations… mulling it over.     Are we new recruits of the Centurions? Or just independent/new heroes in the Centurions’ home city?

I'm considering applying! I finally have some room in my schedule for PbP and a new superhero game sounds really cool. I have a concept for a character who's like... in theory, she's a low-level eldritch reality warper, but in practice all her reality warping is confined to meeting unrealistic mundane expectations. Like if her dad complains to her "why couldn't you major in engineering or medicine" her power activates and makes her seem like she's majoring in both at once. If her mom says "you need to cut that hair" and then turns around and says "you should grow your hair out longer" then her power activates and makes it seem like her hair is simultaneously shorter and longer. One day maybe she saw a car crash and rushed to try to help, and someone assumed she was some kind of superhero and expected her to have super-strength or something, and now here she is. Does that sound like a fun concept for this game?

Can we send our demons into the room to look around and report back? That way we can hide somewhere far away from the thing that killed Andre."

"If the app doesn't work we're helpless. And apparently the cops already know about all this..."

The news takes longer to sink in than the magic did. She stares at her phone in disbelief as the boys start to move to the exit. "Wait!" She rushes over to try to grab them by the arms. "Are you crazy? Let's not get carried away! Someone stabbed him! Let the cops handle it!"

Like, this sh** can't be real, but -" She laughs again and gestures around. "We can do magic?! Unless we're all about to wake up from a dream or hallucination or something - but who cares! We can do magic! We could go around healing people or, whatever I guess!" She waves a hand at Trick. "We can save the school, whatever! We can do magic!"

I fell and hit my head when that thing hit me, what if all kinds of accidents happen because of these things? People used to believe that happened all over the world! Someone got sick or died out of nowhere, they said it was a demon or a spirit that did it. So what if it's not the 'game world', what if it's... you know... the spirit world? But that's crazy, right?"

She hurries closer to take a look, then freezes. "Did you - did you hit it on something, or - you must have scraped it or hit something hot, right?" She doesn't look like she even believes the explanations she's offering, but there has to be some answer here. "Are you messing with us?"

But she tries to stay disaffected about it all. This game is malware, she's not going to let herself get invested in winning it. This is just killing time. "Watch your step!" she calls to Samantha. She shoots off a Bufu at a Poltergeist, but her focus is more on Sam for fear she'll trip like Cynthia did.

Cynthia asks. She sighs and looks at her screen, lining it up to shoot a Bufu at one of the pixies. But her heart isn't really in the battle. She looks at the door impatiently, hoping Andre will show up soon. And she glances around herself to make sure there's nothing to trip her this time.

"It's crazy that this game has such good graphics but they didn't bother with, I don't know, tooltips? Or skill descriptions?" Cynthia mutters. She feels ridiculous playing this game even though it's malware, but she guesses the three demon choices won't disappear until she picks one. Well, she already has one of Poltergeist's skills, and Kobold doesn't have any skills listed at all, just lots of raw strength and elemental weaknesses - that sounds boring, even for a meatshield. She goes with Pixie too. "Where are you going?" she asks Trick, though she does follow slowly just to keep him in sight. "I thought we were waiting here for Andre."

Cynthia takes a cursory look at the office, then turns around to find Trick and Jason already dashing off to the gym. She hurries after Samantha to catch up with her at least. "Hey, wait up! Let's stick together." She falls in walking next to Samantha. "If we all split up it's not like we'll be able to text each other updates if the app blows up one of our phones, and I wanna document it if it does. Are you going to the gym too?"    

Cynthia scowls as their phones start talking again. This time she tries to "turn down" the loud voice by physically muffling the phone's speaker with her hand. "This app's so insane," she muses. "Like. It's basically malware, no one's going to put up with it installing new apps and messing up phones like this. But the graphics are amazing, the map shows individual rooms so it can't just be based on Google, and it just seems so... smart? It knows a school is a school and a door is a door. They invested crazy money into making this, even though it's so obviously begging to get them sued." She looks up at the others again. "Well, anyways, uh, if we can't find Andre in the halls, he might end up at one of these quests. Want to go look? Even if the factory reset works I'm pretty curious about this now."

"Did this thing download more apps for you too?" Cynthia approaches the other three, phone in hand. "This has to be some kind of malware, right?" She's still ticked off and worried about her phone being hijacked, but now a part of her is actually excited. Forget writing a game review - writing an exposé has to bring in way more attention. Granted, she wasn't able to find out anything about Metatron Studios, but there has to be something out there, right? "You guys want to go hunt down Andre and see if he knows anything about this?"

"Let me see your screen," Cynthia commands, walking over to look at Jason's phone. "No, see, if it's just dead it should show the little empty battery thing! It's bricked! This stupid game bricked our phones!" She swears under her breath and she mashes the power button on her phone again. "How can you be hungry at a time like this?"

HP: 2/5   Cynthia scowls down at her phone as she tries to turn it back on. She's still rubbing the back of her head. Her expression quickly turns disbelieving. "Oh my god. You have got to be kidding me. Can you guys get your phones to turn on?"

HP: 2/5   As Cynthia ducks away from the attack, her legs somehow get tangled up beneath her. She falls backwards with a gasp and knocks her head against the floor. She swears, loudly. Her pride is hurt worse than her head, and her head hurts pretty bad. She rubs the back of her head as she sits up. "Andre wasn't kidding." Cynthia's tempted to ragequit, but tries to act unbothered. She stands back up and shoots off another Bufu at the stupid demon that attacked her.

"How does this game even have our school's floor plan?" Cynthia wonders. "Is that on Google Maps these days too?" She doesn't let it show, but she's a little excited when the combat encounter starts. The graphics look great, they went for way more realism than Pokemon Go did. This battle system better not suck or she'll be mad. "Aim with one hand...?" Feeling a little dorky, she tries pointing with her finger in front of her phone's camera at one of the mobs. Hopefully no one else is watching them play, this looks silly. "I'll freeze them, and you guys focus them down?" She presses the spell button to cast Bufu.  

Cynthia turns on her phone and stands up to join the others. "Sure, I'll come with you." She grimaces at the cut Andre shows them. "Ouch. Do you have to physically dodge attacks? Pokemon Go wasn't like that." She follows Trick out the door, opening the app as she goes. "I took the ice attack and fire shield," she says as she pokes around the menus. "I haven't played any yet, though."

Cynthia doesn't argue with Andre, just frowns as she listens. Whether or not she gets along with him, his news and his gossip are both usually accurate. "Jesus... I just hope she's okay." This is exactly the kind of story Ellie would've used on the blog as proof monsters are out there. Bizarrely brutal animal attack? It's straight out of Vampire Diaries. The voice from the phones makes her jolt slightly, and she scowls at her phone as she turns it off. "Bit loud for a notification. Sorry." She looks around curiously at the others while the Principal talks, though. It's not really surprising a streamer like Andre is in the beta - it sounds like he's even done a quest already - but she is a bit surprised there's so many people in this class alone.

Cynthia recoils a little at the news. "That's horrible. Don't act so excited about it," she rebukes Andre. "Where'd you even hear this?"   She's one of the people who despises the streamer. Both just because he's a streamer - how loathsome - and because his gaming streams get more views than her blog.
