  1. Thanks a lot for all the answers! In the end I'm just not very used to games that deadly, but admittedly for the two games I'm running at the moment (The Dark Eye and Battle Century) I'm still figuring our lots of mechanics and combat difficulty ... in that regard Battle Century is probably noteworthy as it has a standard ability essentially everyone has which allows you to escape death with a 100% chance - you're just no longer able to participate in the battle that's currently going on, but otherwise are fine ... but I guess I'm going offtopic here myself, ahem. Anyway, if I get another chance at PF/SF I'll definitely go for it, I guess! Thanks again everyone.
  2. Hmm. The SF DM actually was a newcomer, but the PF1 and PF2 gms told us they were experienced DM vets ... I have the PF2 one pretty fresh in mind and it already started bad: Everyone had high init barring our tankiest character (the champion, that was me), so the War Priest with his medium armor rushed in and whacked the Owlbear, but then got critted and immediately was dead. After that every planning fell apart and nobody wanted to use any tactics anymore, so everyone moved in (and out of my range for Liberating Step) and ... eh. Admittedly that group always had bad tactics (Moving behind the champion with her good AC or at least next to her? Naah...) ... but to be honest, nobody of us saw that Owlbear boss (?) onehitting our War Priest from ~27 HP to <0 before the encounter, not even the DM ... Admittedly, that group before played 5E with a DM who was completely unable to balance any encounter and so even fights against black dragons and a lich were 2-round-cakewalks, so I guess people still were feeling invincible... still sad.
  3. I'm not sorry for casting Raise Dead on this thread. AD&D2 hands down for three reasons: - It had all these "All about ..." supplements. Fighters, Rogues, Elves etc it was great. I loved these books. - The Monster Manual contained detailed infos about the diet of dragons. I loved that so much! - Speaking of diet, Qualinesti elves being fruitarians was just the best. How can you not love elves eating nothing but fruit?! (Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fruitarian.)
  4. Hello! Naturally I know that I'm probably biased, but let me tell you my experiences: - Pathfinder 1: (Kitsune Ninja, Automaton Bard, Human Monk, High Elf Fighter) Played it once, but our group were TPK'd in our first fight by two monsters, DM said "It shouldn't have worked out like this", but after that almost everyone lost motivation and the group dissolved. - Pathfinder 2: Played two games. -- (Sprite Rogue, Orc War Priest, some Tree Kineticist, a Human Mage, Half-Elf Champion) In this one we managed at least to get to level 2 before an Owlbear with some good rolls wiped us and the group dissolved after that. -- (Human Gunslinger, Half-Elf Samurai (?) and two Goblin rogues) In the other game our first fight against some thugs had half of the party was killed and the others were taken as prisoners, which subsequently ended the game. - Starfinder: (Vesk Guardsman, Shirren Solarion, Ysoki Embassy, Human Sniper, Human Mystic) We got to level 3, but every fight was a slog. Even primitive barbarians with slings and sticks had better attack roll modifiers than our trained fighters (i.e. Sniper, Guard, Solarion), and usually our Mystic specialized on Healing dealt the most damage with her spells ... then we fought some weird, three-headed boss-monster which killed our Vesk, Ysoki and Shirren, the DM apologized and offered to retcon the scene but after that nobody wanted to play anymore. Each of these games had a different DM, and I'm just wondering at this point: Is that standard for Paizo games, or was I just unlucky? The games I usually play (L5R, The Dark Eye, Battle Century) are by far less lethal.
  5. Thanks a lot for the replies! Lots to think about. In regards to actual mecha size BC defaults to ~20 meters, however it explicitly states that much bigger or smaller (think ~80 meter Evangelion for big, ~3 meter Knightmare Frame for small) is also possible. Our players all have units around 20 meters, so that's not too big. There's a generic transport craft in the manual which is listed as ~120 meters length, but has no data to crew size etc ... the ship I envision for this is going to be a bit bigger, as it's meant to operate far away from any support infrastructure. Automation is a good point, but BC isn't too sophisticated, it's essentially a post-post-apocalyptic setting, with humanity slowly starting to rebuild, so I assume that for most tasks, be it repairs or mundane things like preparing meals usually humans have to do the work ... well, I'll think about it for a while longer. Thanks again for the replies!
  6. (Or is it 'how much crewmembers' in this context?) Hello! Also apologies if this is actually not the right forum for this question - I think it is but please correct me! So, the following scenario - imagine a rag-tag crew of four mercenaries, all bringing their own, custom-built/-grown mecha (We're playing Battle Century, so the actual term would be Gears and, for the organic variant, Familiars), all of them having just a little bit of combat experience. Now the city-state they work for is unfortunately in a conflict with an enemy that has a lot of spread out bases, so they need these mercenaries being highly mobile - on a flight capable carrier that houses their four units and at least has some more space housing 2-4 'cheap patrol craft' and for potentially captured units. The players likely will interact a lot with the crewmembers of this ship as they will spend plenty of time (sometimes weeks, even though I don't intent on playing out every single day) 'confined' to said ship. Unfortunately I have literally zero experience in regards to what kind of crew size such a small-size carrier could have, and even worse, what kind of facilities does it require? So I've been thinking... Bridge - Naturally, the ship's captain - Probably an XO? - At least 2-4 Bridge Operators? Engineering - Chief Engineer and Maintenance Crew (and once more, how many of these even?) Mess/Kitchen - Kitchen personnel and chef to keep crew morale high Infirmary - Doctor and at least 1-2 nurses? Hangar and NPC combat personnel - Pilots for the patrol units - Gunners for the defensive turrets? (Can also be unnecessary if that part is done by AI...) Storage deck/rooms/bays for fuel, spare parts, ammunition, food and medical supplies (for humans and familiars) But that's like all I can think of - perhaps this is also all nonsense and some of this isn't even required ... I have really no idea. Anyway, thanks for reading! - Miri p.s.: Once more apologies if this isn't the right forum for this question.
  7. Honestly, when WotC started with the OGL drama I already gave up on them, despite having roughly a dozen 5E books in physical copies here. Sure, they changed their approach, but them even trying this crap was enough for me. These days I'm playing in a PF2 game for a year now and I like it, more than PF1 at least. Otherwise I'm running just two games - one of them using 'The Dark Eye' (*The* german P&P system since, uh, I think 1984?) and the other being 'Battle Century' ... both of these feel quite different, despite TDE being also a fantasy game. I'm reading up on OneD&D UA's out of curiousity these days, but I'll never give WotC any money again ... Shadow of the Bad Writing Queen was the last D&D book I ever bought, and I regretted even that before the OGL shittery even started.
  8. Hey, I asked this a while ago (I think, September?), is it now possible to hide sheets from friends? Or can I at least unfriend these people who aren't playing anymore somehow to don't see their sheets anymore? I'm unfortunately still seeing sheets of half a dozen characters of people who stopped playing in 2019/2020 ... Once more, sorry if I *again* missed any updates on that. Thanks, Miri
  9. Okay, cool! Also uh, email adresses are hidden, right? Because I couldn't find any option to hide it.
  10. So, I have tried to look through all the posts here but I guess I've missed it ... - Is there any way to *not* see the sheets of friends in my sheet list? - And if there is no such option, where do I actually unfriend users so their sheets are no longer shown to me? Thanks, Miri. p.s.: Apologies again if I missed that somewhere.
