Spoilers wont hold formatting!

Recommended Posts

I am having this issue CONSTANTLY, and the frustration levels are reaching nuclear proportions.

I have literally spent the last THREE HOURS formatting/saving/losing the formatting/trying to figure out how to keep the formatting by going into the source and brute forcing things/becoming so irritated I'm ready to give up on this 'grand experiment' immediately and for all bloody time!

For whatever stupid reason, this idiotic editor is, YET AGAIN, taking what should be a SIMPLE, EASY, and most importantly QUICK process, and making it impossible!

Every time I put any kind of formatting inside a spoiler, whether it be bullet/number points, indents, or justification (which, for some stupid reason, can ONLY be changed by either copy/pasting it from a saved post on OGMW, which is yet another strike against this worthless WYSIWYG editor).  Literally the only formatting I can get to stay is Bold, Italics, or Underline.

And for added 'hilarity', hitting CTRL+Z undoes EVERY SINGLE CHANCE MADE SINCE YOU LAST SAVED, IN A SINGLE KEYSTROKE!

For reference, HERE IS THE THREAD I've been working in. The third post down (the IC posting format) is the one that's been causing me to rip my hair out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  My frustration levels are through the roof with this problem. It's taking up so much of my time that I haven't even been able to post in the game itself, because I just wanted to put together a halfway decent posting format...SOMETHING I CAN DO ON OGMW IN LITERAL SECONDS!!

I come to this site TO RELAX! I should not have my blood pressure being raised because of a stupid, intransigent, overly fussy, text editor!  This is intolerable!

My first question:  Did you copy the post directly from OGMW and paste here?  If you did, you'll have to paste as plain text and then format the post in its entirety; you cannot paste directly from OGMW with formatting due to presence of bbCode.  Brute-forcing through source also doesn't work if you did that; you'll find that you'll have to pretty much wipe the source and start over.

@Arklytte It's a particularly irritating known issue with spoilers and fieldsets that's currently being worked on, the joys of beta testing unfortunately. Spoilers, fieldsets, and OOC blocks are all custom plugins, so we're having to debug as users find the issues. We're hoping to have this particular bug resolved soon, because it's agitating for everyone using the system.

The open beta period exists to find issues like what you described, but there's nothing forcing users to utilize the open beta if they don't want to deal with the bugs and in-progress plugins still being developed. 🤷‍♂️

Appreciate the heads up.  Also, I'd like to apologize for ranting.  I'd been up all night,  I was incredibly frustrated, and I lost my temper.  I could have made my point without grousing quite so hard. I do appreciate the work y'all are doing, I just REALLY don't like WYSIWYG editors.  IMO they are always a suboptimal choice.

Regardless, it's the way y'all have chosen to go, so I'll have to get used to it, I suppose.  Which is why I continue to beat my head on frustration against this particular brick wall. 😄

I trust y'all will forgive the occasional lapse in temper.  🙂

Good troubleshooting, but nope.  I copied it from one of @bwatford's forms that he's put together.  I then was trying to edit one of the spoilers (the equipment one), and couldn't even get it to accept a simple bullet list.

This was on top of trying to build a form from scratch for a couple hours.

I've tried multiple ways, both copypasta, using the editor, and brute force/ source.  Now that I know it's an ongoing issue, I can find alternatives and temper my expectations.

Thanks to you as well Eric.  And, again, sorry about the rant.

Hey Ark.... it will hold a bullet list if you never edit the post again.... lol I learned the hard way.   Since that's not viable we will have to wait for the fix.

Somehow the html sanitizer is stripping out nested tags, but it is on the list to fix.

Oh...erm...yeah.

Well, good to know for informational posts, but useless for IC posts.  🙂

@Arklytte The good thing at least is if you add them back in during an edit, they’ll stay till you edit again.

still a PITA overall (I have to rebullet the first post list in the Path to Baldr Release thread multiple times a week), so hopefully resolved soon. 🙂

Erm...So, I'm not sure if I did something right, something wrong, or if this is just normal function, and I'm too tired to realize it (been up WAY too long)

Nevertheless, since it's (probably) relevant to the issue of the code sanitizer, I thought I'd share.

I copied a character sheet template that @bwatford put together (thanks, btw, B, those templates are AWESOME!!!) and have been modifying it for my own use.  I have an Spoiler that I set up to contain OOC info & comments, and, since it's by itself (ie not nested within any other fieldsets or spoilers), I wanted it centered.  I brute forced it with 'Text Align:Center' in the source, because when I used the editor buttons, it wouldn't stick.  Frustratingly, the whole thing was Centered, including the text within the hidden area.  Thinking I would just be stuck with this, I ignored it in favor of tinkering with other things.

Well, tonight, I was editing it again, and I decided to try and put 'Text Align:Left' in the hidden part, and, wonder of wonders, it worked.  But, since the board had been stripping out code before, I figured it was going to strip this out as well, so, with a sigh, I re-edited it and saved it...and it kept the formatting! 😄

Now, again, I dont know if this is a step in the right direction, or if this is it just working how it's supposed to, or if y'all got the issue (partially) fixed.  But, for whatever reason, it's working in this instance, and I wanted to let y'all know, in case this is a good (or, potentially bad) thing.

Oh, and speaking of 'weird stuff'...When I was editing that same post, specifically when I was adding links to things within the nested spoilers, I was getting a weird little hiccup that looked something like this:

  1. Highlight text you want to make a link
  2. Click Link button in editor
  3. Paste link into popup
  4. Hit return key
  5. Entire link moves to very beginning of post

This happened multiple times (and is still happening...you're welcome to test it with the Original thread (third post down)).  If, at step #4, I clicked the 'Insert Into Post' button with my mouse, everything worked fine.

I've tested this in other threads (including this one), and whether I hit return once I post the URL or click the Insert Into Post button, everything works fine.  I also tried it in a couple other posts that just had single fieldsets/spoilers (ie nothing nested), and everything also seems to work normally.  Apparently it's only when you have spoilers nested withing spoilers that the problem arises.

Not a game breaker or anything, just a weird error that I thought y'all should be aware of.

@Arklytte I’m pretty sure that’s not supposed to work because of the entire bit with spoiler/ooc/fieldset being blocks, but cool that it is! I’ll let the actual devs look into it. The normal workaround has been to create a single row, three column table to contain things centered, then set the border to 0 px.

For the link oddity… All a dev thing that they can dig into, it’s too far outside my territory to figure out what’s going on there. 😛
