spacer.pngBackground
They say curiosity killed the cat, well perhaps Book may have wished that so, but instead it merely bound the kitty to a Dao. Early in his career as a librarian and researcher Tsarland was looking through books and read an esoteric passage that led him down a rabbit hole so to speak. At the end of the research was a ritual, but it was not like any other ritual that he had ever read, but for this one the little kitty was faced with a Dao, a Genie of Earth. The Dao took interest in the curious cat, and discerned that perhaps he can utilize this Tabaxi to his own ends. A curious tabaxi in a library could help dig up information for him, and perhaps if needed, could be used to go out and find the information himself.

Book as he was soon known was then tasked to find information on lost Dwarven mines. Very quickly he became an "expert" on Dwarven history and lost settlements. Though only he knew that it was not due to self interest or what most people think. His interest is strictly in service of a hidden master.

Personality
Book is curious, and tends to ask questions, even though his curiosity had gotten him bound in servitude, he still wants to know everything. He tends to be polite, being a small feline tends to cause people to either treat him very poorly, or very well. Children in particular take a liking to him and he has learned that children will often know the tales of a land and through folklore and nursery rhymes would lead him to what information he would be looking for. He sometimes seems aloof, but he has what would be considered ADHD, His mind scatters to the newest topic until he finds one that grabs his attention then his focus becomes singular.

Appearance
Book is a small Tabaxi, should he walk on his hands and feet he could be mistaken for a very large cat. As is the pants or robes ensure that he does not get mistaken often. His fur is shades of grey and white, his eyes a soft yellow. He leans toward the domestic cats than the wild in his appearance.

Traits
I love a good Mystery.

IN tend to come across as incredibly awkward in social situations.

Ideal
The purpose of dedicating your life to study is to better yourself.

Bonds
A single question has become an obsession for me and I am determined to discover its answer.

Flaws
The promise of information easily distracts me.

Bottled Respite As an action, you can magically vanish and enter your vessel, which remains in the space you left. The interior of the vessel is an extradimensional space in the shape of a 20-foot-radius cylinder, 20 feet high, and resembles your vessel. The interior is appointed with cushions and low tables and is a comfortable temperature. While inside, you can hear the area around your vessel as if you were in its space. You can remain inside the vessel up to a number of hours equal to twice your proficiency bonus. You exit the vessel early if you use a bonus action to leave, if you die, or if the vessel is destroyed. When you exit the vessel, you appear in the unoccupied space closest to it. Any objects left in the vessel remain there until carried out, and if the vessel is destroyed, every object stored there harmlessly appears in the unoccupied spaces closest to the vessel's former space. Once you enter the vessel, you can't enter again until you finish a long rest.

Feline Agility (1 uses). When you move on your tum in combat, you can double your speed until the end of the tum. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you move 0 feet on one of your turns.

Geneie's Wrath Once during each of your turns when you hit with an attack roll, you can deal extra damage to the target equal to your proficiency bonus. The type of this damage is determined by your patron: bludgeoning (dao)

Genies Vessel - Bell Necklace At 1st level, your patron gifts you a magical vessel that grants you a measure of the genie's power. The vessel is a Tiny object, and you can use it as a spellcasting focus for your warlock spells. You decide what the object is. The vessel's AC equals your spell save DC. Its hit points equal your warlock level plus your proficiency bonus, and it is immune to poison and psychic damage. If the vessel is destroyed or you lose it, you can perform a 1-hour ceremony to receive a replacement from your patron. This ceremony can be performed during a short or long rest, and the previous vessel is destroyed if it still exists. The vessel vanishes in a flare of elemental power when you die.

Spells

Eldritch Blast

  • Casting Time: 1 action
  • Range: 120 feet
  • Target: A creature within range
  • Components: V S
  • Duration: Instantaneous
  • Classes: Warlock
  • A beam of crackling energy streaks toward a creature within range. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes 1d10 force damage.
The spell creates more than one beam when you reach higher levels: two beams at 5th level, three beams at 11th level, and four beams at 17th level. You can direct the beams at the same target or at different ones. Make a separate attack roll for each beam.

Prestidigitation

  • Casting Time: 1 action
  • Range: 10 feet
  • Target: See text
  • Components: V S
  • Duration: Up to 1 hour
  • Classes: Bard, Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard
  • This spell is a minor magical trick that novice spellcasters use for practice. You create one of the following magical effects within range:
You create an instantaneous, harmless sensory effect, such as a shower of sparks, a puff of wind, faint musical notes, or an odd odor.
You instantaneously light or snuff out a candle, a torch, or a small campfire.
You instantaneously clean or soil an object no larger than 1 cubic foot.
You chill, warm, or flavor up to 1 cubic foot of nonliving material for 1 hour.
You make a color, a small mark, or a symbol appear on an object or a surface for 1 hour.
You create a nonmagical trinket or an illusory image that can fit in your hand and that lasts until the end of your next turn.
If you cast this spell multiple times, you can have up to three of its non-instantaneous effects active at a time, and you can dismiss such an effect as an action.

Comprehend Languages

  • Casting Time: 1 action
  • Range: Self
  • Target: Self
  • Components: V S M (A pinch of soot and salt)
  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Classes: Bard, Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard
  • For the duration, you understand the literal meaning of any spoken language that you hear. You also understand any written language that you see, but you must be touching the surface on which the words are written. It takes about 1 minute to read one page of text.
This spell doesn’t decode secret messages in a text or a glyph, such as an arcane sigil, that isn’t part of a written language.

Sanctuary

  • Casting Time: 1 bonus action
  • Range: 30 feet
  • Target: A creature within range
  • Components: V S M (A small silver mirror)
  • Duration: 1 minute
  • Classes: Cleric
  • You ward a creature within range against attack. Until the spell ends, any creature who targets the warded creature with an attack or a harmful spell must first make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature must choose a new target or lose the attack or spell. This spell doesn’t protect the warded creature from area effects, such as the explosion of a fireball.
If the warded creature makes an attack or casts a spell that affects an enemy creature, this spell ends.

Thanks for the app, everything looks good.

What form does Book's genie's vessel take?

You mentioned that he might have preferred death and feels bound in servitude to the dao. Does he want to be free of the genie?

I think Book may have heard that there is an interesting book shop in Phandalin, the Well Read Tome, that might be worth looking into.

I was thinking that the Genies Vessel it would take the form of a bauble or bell around his neck to fit the fact he is a cat. Between that or a ring. Thinking about it...the Dao providing him a bell tickles my fancy.

Book values his freedom, and now being bound to a Dao he has lost a measure of this freedom. There have been times when he has been given a task, sometimes dangerous, well dangerous to him before he understands what real danger is by adventuring, that he thought that he would be better off dead, but nothing quite so severe as committing suicide. But this is not something that he dwells on and between his borderline ADHD and curiosity he quickly moves on to another thought. And though he does not like servitude, it does lead him down new rabbit holes of information that he can get lost in that does sooth his discomfort enough most days.

Oh, a thread...a string for him to follow, perhaps there is a ball of thread that he can bat about when he gets there...Er...yeah, he would be interested in this book shop.
