Zorian Arakan (Half-elf Paladin 3) sheetspacer.png

AC: 20 | HP: 31/31 | Initiative: +0 | Passive Perception: 12 | Features

Zorian jumps back at Yopine's small outburst. He finds the violence even a little cute coming from someone her size, but he knows not to let that thought linger. She looks deadly enough if provoked. Instead, he smiles at Vanio and Yopine.

"I'm not specifically a thief-hunter, although I'm not opposed to it. I'm just trying to do some good in this world, and for now, make enough money to survive through the next winter. Finding work can be hard once the snows set in."

Vanio Valgok - Dwarven Druid, Circle of the Mountain.

Vanio gave Yopine a disarming smile. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to insult you."
Then, he answers Zorian. "I can imagine. The winters can be harsh, especially as an adventurer."

He takes a moment to look around the tavern and think. Pushes back his hair a bit, because it started falling across his face and bothering him.

"So I think it's decided then. Would you both like to leave immediately? In that case, I will need a moment to grab some stuff."

Yopine Quietclock (Deep Gnome Ranger 3) Sheet spacer.png

AC: 15 | HP: 28/28 | Initiative: +3 | Passive Perception: 15 | Passive Insight: 15 | | Features

"Ah mean, don't get me wrong. Yer common larceny? Couldn't give two shites." Her accent thickened with an emotion somewhere between passion and bile. "s'only when things get organized ta'the point where innocents start gettin' trampled. There's what gets grit inta' the grinder. Do what you need to survive, sure. Can't be no harm in that. I just don't like how far some people are willing to go when they don't stop at survival. That's all..."

Yopine's voice dwindled as her professional calm returned towards the end of the minor rant, and the thickest parts of her gutter accent receded again. She cleared her throat with only a little embarrassment and indicated that she was good to move out.

Zorian Arakan (Half-elf Paladin 3) sheetspacer.png

AC: 20 | HP: 31/31 | Initiative: +0 | Passive Perception: 12 | Features

Zorian is happy to have found these companions. He was not looking forward to exploring the ruins alone. He's heard there's goblins there and he could easily be overwhelmed if there were more than a few. He returns his dishes to the kitchen, gathers any belongings from his room, leaving it tidy, and returns to the common room where he pays the innkeeper for anything he still owes. He then turns to his new friends.

"It's only morning. Let's see if we can find this Citadel before nightfall."

Once they are ready, he heads out into the forest, following a route from a map he had once seen briefly.

Yopine Quietclock (Deep Gnome Ranger 3) Sheet spacer.png

AC: 15 | HP: 28/28 | Initiative: +5 | Passive Perception: 15 | Passive Insight: 15 | | Features

"Aye, they call that the Sunless Citadel, right? Hoping that's more than a fanciful name."

What looked like a clean dish towel from the inn was partially draped over here eyes. She hadn't been comfortable on the short leg from building to forest. While it was a myth that Svirfneblin suffered disabilities in full daylight, they weren't exactly built for the sweltering heat already building. Yopine was even further a creature of the night, preferring dark alleys and moonless skies. The bright light was harsh.

She fared better in the forest than the open stretch, though not exactly as the typical Ranger. She hardly seemed at one with nature; shying from things that would be harmless while passing entirely things that should be genuine cause for concern to a real naturist. Animals didn't care much for her, either.

Instead, she appeared to be at home with instinctively move from one shadow to the next. Sometimes it could be difficult to keep track of her position, but then some bit of enthusiasm would disrupt. Otherwise, there was hardly a creak from her well-cared armor. Her sword and crossbow were both secured and unmoving, strapped lots to opposing hips. There was only the one bolt ever seen, however.

Even the arrows were secure and silent in their quiver. The entire compilation was done in various shades of not-quite-black. It wasn't the dark blacks one might normally think of about shadows. Yopine instead wore what was actually found there.

As you all leave the tavern and head out towards the forest from Oakhurst, you come across the general store and what appeared to be some young adventurers of either human or half elf descent both male and female nearby packing a small covered wagon. A noble looking human women was watching the adventurers and talking with what appeared to be a young half elf with a stringed instrument over his back. You manage to overhear this

"Young man I do hope you and your friends know what you are doing going to that cursed citadel"

"Relax Matron, we may be young but we've have experience in dungeon diving. This isn't our first adventure together,"

"My son said the same thing but now he's missing along with his sister."

"yeah I get where you are coming from but don't worry, we can take care of ourselves and with a little luck and a few blessings from above bring back your children.

"Call it what you want young man but that sounds like you have more faith than anything else."

"You'll be surprised how much faith can adjust fate after all it saved me from a life on the streets when all I met said I would never get out of that life." The young man replied

"yes but even faith has its limits, don't be blind to that."

"of course of course." The young bard looked at the wagon that was being loaded by a young man with hide armor and muscles "hey Brick is that everything we need."

"yep." The young man called brick stated as he put in the last part "should be able to handle anything that comes at us Jin." He replied "Rebe, you need anything special."

"No, I have all I need." A girl's voice replied from inside the wagon replied

"Violet?"

"I am fine. Let us go before I melt." A second female voice stated with a negative tone

"I hear that." Brick stated "today feels like it's going to be a scorcher."

"do not tell me that..." Violet replied

Jin chuckled

Yopine Quietclock (Deep Gnome Ranger 3) Sheet spacer.png

AC: 15 | HP: 28/28 | Initiative: +5 | Passive Perception: 15 | Passive Insight: 15 | | Features

Yopine fell into silence as they came upon the ongoing drama. At first she was just listening carefully, but her ears visibly twitched at the mention of the missing. A mildly apologetic glance was offered to her companions as the Gnome went off to do what she had to do.

"Excuse me, hi?" Any uncertainty or youthful nonsense that might have been in her voice was now gone. A smooth layer of professionalism had been plastered over all the little fractures of immaturity. "I'm a tracker by trade. Finding people is what I do for a living. Please let me know if you have room for one more."

She hated to bail on her new companions, but missing people took precedence over everything else. Dungeon delving and even the thief hunt would have to be put on hold Yopine's skills were desperately needed here.

Plus, she was curious to see who could be more of an ice-princess than herself. The heat was oppressive, sure, but still nothing compared to the thick miasma of a large city in the middle of Summer.

Zorian Arakan (Half-elf Paladin 3) sheetspacer.png

AC: 20 | HP: 31/31 | Initiative: +0 | Passive Perception: 12 | Features

Zorian watches as opine goes forward and asks for space just for herself. So much for our Fellowship. But he walks forward too. He's not going to lose out on this chance just because the gnome found a better offer. He's also not going to ditch Vanio.

"Or three? Or perhaps two search parties would be better than one."

He then introduces himself to the noblewoman. "Zorian Arakan, at your service ma'am."

Jin made a noise of surprise "whoa where did you three come from."

The Matron hummed as she looked upon the group. "I suspect the tavern that's where most from out of town stay."

A curtain in the back of the wagon opened slightly as a teenage acolyte looking girl with bright blue eyes poked her head out "Jin's what going on."

A second girl with dark hair and dark makeup on also peered out "my guess Rebe, our competition." She got a slight smile "this is going to be entertaining..."

Jin made a noise "what Matron I thought we had an agreement."

"We do young man, however two search parties are better than one." She turned to the group "besides they look like they might provide skills you all do not have. After all didn't you all say you don't have a tracker or guide."

Jin gave the group a frown "we know where we're going..."

The Matron hummed then approached the group "a pleasure Mr. Arakan, I'm Lady Kerowyn Hucrele, Matriach of the Hucrele Merchant family and owner of this general store. If you all are indeed heading in the same direction as young Jin and his friends are then I would be more than happy to offer the same job as I did them. My son, Talgen Hucrele and daughter Sharwyn Hucrele were part of an adventurers' group who set out for The Sunless Citadel about two weeks ago to investigate it and the incidents that have been occurring, they have not been heard from nor has there been anyone willing to search for them... until now..."

Jin made a noise "yeah this is our gig, go get your own!" He snapped

Brick came up behind Jin and put a heavy hand on his shoulder "cool it Jin," He growled

"but Brick. They are poaching our job!"

"The sunless citadel a big place or so I've heard, loaded with Goblins" Brick stated "if the Matron willing to pay for more people who are willing to search I say that's more people able to take on those goblins and anything else that's down there, besides she did say 250 gold per person not as a group so it doesn't affect the pay"

Jin growled "I suppose not."

Violet giggled

Lady Hucrele hummed "Like Jin's more levelheaded companion has stated, I am willing to pay 250 gold per person of the search team who can locate my children and bring them home or if something has happened to them return both gold signet rings to me. Do this and you all may decide to split whatever else you find there. Is that acceptable?"

Yopine actually laughed at the thought of 'competition'. It was sharp and lighthearted, not intended for derision. Though she couldn't help how others might choose to translate it.

"I'm sorry, but I'm not sure you could afford my rates. Not comfortably, anyway, an' that's not a burden I'll put to anyone in real need. I ain't asking for a job. I'm offering ta' help. The others can split the profits as they see fit after yer' kids are home safe."

Zorian Arakan (Half-elf Paladin 3) sheetspacer.png

AC: 20 | HP: 31/31 | Initiative: +0 | Passive Perception: 12 | Features

Zorian shakes the woman's hand as an equal. While he is low on funds right now, it is clear that he is also a noble.

"Thank you, ma'am. 250 gold per person is quite generous. Could you describe your children so we know them when we find them? What are their names? What do you know about this adventuring party they went with?"

He then introduces himself to other scouting party. "With the Madam offering to pay each of us if we bring home her children, there's no reason to compete for this. We will have a better chance of surviving and finding them if we work together. This is Yopine, our guide and archer. And this is Vanio, a druid. And I'm Zorian. I just have a sword and a shield, but I've found them both rather useful."

Vanio had been watching everything that happened around him carefully. When he heard the children had been gone for two weeks, he feared for them. That was a long time to be gone already, yet he felt pretty confident that he and his new companions would be able to find them if they were at the Citadel. Yopine had offered her help, then Zorian had stepped forward to offer his and Vanio's too. The dwarf was fine with that and nodded in agreement.

"I am willing to offer my services to you as well. If they are still around the ruins, we will find them. Could you describe what the children look like and do you know what the adventurers were looking for in particular?"

Lady Hucrele hummed as she bowed her head "a pleasure indeed." She pulled out a small handsized picture of her family showing a tall blond haired man with a longsword strapped to his back and a shorter amber haired female with bewitching green eyes "My son is a tall and strong young man who has practiced many hours with the longsword and my daughter is a studious sort learning arcane magic. The adventurers were looking into some incidents that have occurred recently, people and domesticated animals who stay out past sunset and don't watch out end up dead with thin needle like stab wounds. They think there's some sort of monster lurking in the forest who attacks at night and think it uses the Sunless Citadel as it's den during the day. They recruited my son and daughter for their sword and magical talent. They were a paladin a Sir Braford I believe and a Ranger Karakas I think his name was who had tracking expertise."

Rebe gasped "Sir Braford... I know of him, he's one of the Pelor blessed warriors, If he was looking into something it must mean it's serious"

Brick hummed "sure does sound like it. We best get going if we don't want to get caught outside at night with a monster roaming around."

Jin hummed "I'll just borrow this for a second.' He causally took the picture out of Lady Hucrele hand then did a couple of hand gestures like he was using his fingers to measure stuff "uh huh... perfect..." He then handed the picture back and then used hand gestures to summon magic and created a small replica of the picture "this will come in handy." He stated

Lady Hucrele hummed "do what you all need to do. If you need any last minute supplies, my store is open."

Jin hummed "I think we got all we need," he commented "don't know about them."

Violet hummed "wait." She barked then exited out of the wagon and you could see her outfit was a violet colored robe and light footwear and went into the store

Jin made a noise of annoyance "I thought you didn't want anything Violet."

"Shush it Jin... if we're going to face a monster that a paladin was sent out to defeat I'm grabbing as many magic components as I can. I'm not going into a monster's den unprepared, Rebe you want anything."

"umm... I think I'm okay."

Jin rolled his eyes

Brick chuckled then approached the group "hey never got a chance to introduce myself properly, I'm Brick, the muscle of our little group with a slight knack for unarmed combat, Lute man's Jin, he's our quote unquote leader and our Bard." He pointed at Rebe "Rebecca's our healer and life cleric, she likes to be called Rebe, and Violet's our arcana specialist and she's been dabbling in some other magic being inspired by both Jin and Rebecca for their magic but don't tell her that she claims all her studies is her own."

Jin made a scoff

Yopine Quietclock (Deep Gnome Ranger 3) Sheet spacer.png

AC: 15 | HP: 28/28 | Initiative: +5 | Passive Perception: 15 | Passive Insight: 15 | | Features

"Interesting group you have. Good to meet you." She'd been scrounging for something to write with while the others made their introductions. The search was interrupted when Jin made his copy of the picture. Yopine was only a dabbler when it came to magic. She knew there was a lot of potential, however, and having the ability to produce her own ammunition would be invaluable in the field.

When the question came up on anything else that might be needed, Yopine replied with "Well, I'd really like to learn Jin's copy trick. But other than that? If you're determined to spend coin on us, I know too many people who could use that to turn it down. Letting them go hungry aint worth preserving my professional pride. There's a St. Moritz infirmary that could use more help than me. I'll give you their address 'soon as I can find something to write with. Be charitable towards them and that's my payment, 'k?"

As far as the other adventurers went she guessed it was Violet who had the aversion to light. It would explain the makeup, and again there was a magical mystery. Combining arcane with divine magic? Yopine had always believed the two to be mutually exclusive. She'd have to watch the results carefully for anything she could learn to use.

Learning that a monster was on the loose and killing both people and their livelihoods, she had to adjust her priorities again. Fine, first finding the missing, then defeating the monster, and then finding any evidence of the Guild in the area. It was always something, she shook her head.

Zorian nods thanks to the noblewoman.

"We'll do our best to find your children."

He then goes to meet the other adventurers. He does not need to go into the store so waits outside with the others while Violet goes inside. He thinks Jin seems impatient, much like most bards he has met. He's going to be trouble. But this Brick seems like a decent fellow. Zorian shakes his hand.

"I look forward to fighting beside you, Brick. Hopefully we can keep the goblins and monsters away from the others. Jin, Rebe, it is nice to meet you too. How did you all meet?"
