Civit Posted August 14, 2023 Clone Share Posted August 14, 2023 No one? It was Hallowed Be Thy Name by Iron Maiden. There are better videos of it but this was the concert I last saw them. Rob Halford may have a better range but Bruce is by far the better singer. He is also hilarious. He does a spoken word tour. I took my brother for his birthday and he was funny, sharp and witty. Oh he also flies the tour plane (and has been a commercial pilot) and is an Olympic level fencer.
Civit Posted August 14, 2023 Clone Share Posted August 14, 2023 Considering Rush, Iron Maiden and Within Temptation are my 2,3 and 4th favorites, saying this group rounds out my top 5 is NOT a good hint... There was a time I met a girl of a different kind We ruled the world I thought I'd never lose her out of sight We were so young I think of her now and then I still hear the songs reminding me of a friend Up on a hill across the blue lake That's where I had my first heartbreak I still remember how it all changed My father said... Roughtrade Posted August 14, 2023 Clone Share Posted August 14, 2023 Rush, I'm with you. Iron Maiden, at least I have heard of. Dunno Within Temptation. Or your current song. It does sound like the plotline of a Roger Zelazny book.
grapefruit Posted August 15, 2023 Clone Share Posted August 15, 2023 This is another that I know part of the answer to. It took me about 20 minutes of whistling the tune to myself to get it, and, if the next line is the title, I know the title, and I can confirm that the group is nothing like the others listed...however, as for the name of that group... --- For some reason, I couldn't get Children of the Damned out of my mind, although I knew it wasn't that. To prevent me having to do 3 in a row, I'll accept just the song name
grapefruit Posted August 17, 2023 Clone Share Posted August 17, 2023 Don't You Worry, Child, by Swedish House Mafia/John Martin (I looked it up). It was "Up on a hill across the blue lake" that was the key for me. --- A change of pace: And the rain fell like pearls On the leaves of the flowers Leaving brown, muddy clay Where the earth had been dry

CharmingSatyr Posted August 23, 2023 Clone Share Posted August 23, 2023 This feels like a 70s song, back in the heyday of the singer/storyteller/songwriter like Cats in the Cradle or Bye-Bye Miss American Pie.
Civit Posted August 23, 2023 Clone Share Posted August 23, 2023 Or Gordon Lightfoot maybe? *shrug*
CharmingSatyr Posted August 24, 2023 Clone Share Posted August 24, 2023 Yeah. It's got that "Let's rhyme a whole bunch of unnecessary details" feel to it.

Civit Posted August 24, 2023 Clone Share Posted August 24, 2023 I was thinking Harry Chapin, but his stuff is more literal than poetic

Sounds like my era actually, but I was leaning more into Simon & Garfunkel or Greatful Dead than the folksy set like Harry Chapin. Maybe a second line could help someone? Civit Posted August 24, 2023 Clone Share Posted August 24, 2023 Definitely not Simon and Garfunkel. I know their's. GD... I would only recognize Touch of Grey.
grapefruit Posted August 24, 2023 Clone Share Posted August 24, 2023 (edited) The second part of the same verse: And deep in the trench He waited for hours As he held to his rifle And prayed not to die Edited August 24, 2023 by grapefruit (see edit history)
