Request: Can the notifications bell be made to not mark all notifications as unread?

When I click on my notification indicator bell, then click away (or click one of my notifications), all my notifications are marked as "unread".  I recognize that this may be intended behavior. 

If that's the case, can we get an option so that it doesn't mark everything as read?  To me, I actually enjoy having to click through notifications to mark them individually as read.  It helps me keep track of what I have and haven't attended to. 

 

As a compromise, I think a "mark all as read" button would be helpful.  Everybody needs to clear them all out at once sometimes.

This may be technically possible, but it's going to be really low on the priority list.
