Denrag briefly reeled from the fell power hurled against him, but managed to will himself into action nonetheless. The situation had certainly escalated, with the two greater demons making an appearance. He knew they were likely a more pressing threat, but his plan to draw away the small ones had unfortunately worked to perfection. Still while the tiny things were annoying, he needed to help contain the larger demons. Digging deep within himself for a third time, he called forth his signature power, and a silver gale whipped about him as he aimed at the nearest of the larger demons. The silver wind washed forth, carrying with it disruptive energies which would hopefully hinder any fell powers they tried to loose on him or his companions.

At the expression of such power, the ever blowing barrier of wind around him temporarily crackled with energy, empowered to foil arcane as well as mundane projectiles. His body also adapted to the power coursing through him, growing tougher and more agile to aid him in the combat.

The newly arrived demons seemed especially dangerous.

The sorceress found herself engaged in melee with one of the remaining quasits; she quickly targeted the creature with yet another fire spell, despite being aware of its resistance to that element.

Cast: Burning Arc.

(Save DC: 18, Base damage: 24).


If the spell killed the creature, she would move forward to try and rescue her friends; but she doubted it.

Sunna was worried about being left behind, now she wished she was. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time, she took the brunt of the damage from the new combatants. The suddenness of it was too much for even her fast reflexes, and she was badly burned by the rapidly moving lava. Then, while still reeling from the heat and the burns, she was struck by a black bolt from the new creature, draining her life and energy.

She quickly realized that she couldn't get close to this new threat, hovering as they were over the lava, so rushed down to help Denrag fend off the fiends that were surrounding him. Shifting into a more defensive pose, Sunna cut at one quasit with her blade and kicked another one.

Grrr, I forgot about the negative levels, and then I forgot that if I bash with the madu I lose the AC from it. So switching my 2nd attack to be unarmed. I've adjusted the attack bonuses for both attacks in bold above, but I rerolled the damage since it changes from d6 to d8. Ugh, not a great start.

Quake attacks a demon hitting 3 times
50, 33, 31 (114pts)

Denrag blasts at the same demon but misses.  (knowledge check 27)

Sabrael attacks the quasit which takes minor damage

Sunna attacks K9 and K10 doing 27 and 20 points respectively. They hang on with just a few hit points left. (knowledge check 31)

 

Sunna and Denrag know that these are Nabasu demons (CR8):

  • Nabasu can steal life just by looking at people (30ft radius burst) and get more powerful when people die from it.
  • Nabasu have powerful spell like abilities including Mass hold person, Enervation, Silence, Vampiric Touch, Telekinesis, Deeper Darkness and of course Teleport

Though one of them is very damaged, the Nabasu square off on the flying lion shifting into position (5' steps). Their eyes flash with a sickening blackness that pulls at the very soul.

@Grand Poobah Quake must make two DC 18 Fort saves or gain 1 negative level each, (two possible negative levels)

Nabasu 1 (the damaged one) bites and claws at Quake, the teeth finding purchase. He takes 19 points of (Evil and Cold Iron) damage

Nabasu 2 tries to activate an ability defensively but looses the effect

 

Quasits around Denrag all attempt to flee (AoO all around)

Quasit on Sabrael claws and bites at her but has no chance at hitting while alone. It starts to flee as well. It does make a rude gesture before it leaves though.

Momentarily relieved to see the quasits leave Denrag, she quickly slashes at two of them as they depart. Sunna starts to worry when she sees them heading toward Sabrael though. She moves to follow the fleeing demons and calls out, "Sabrael, they are coming your way! Come across the bridge so I can clear them off of you!"

She remembers a tactic to more effectively catch flying enemies and adjusts her approach, then she lunges forward to attack two more of the winged beasts, then readies to hit them again if they continue to fly away.

She takes a quick glance over at the new demons currently fighting Quake and recognizes them instantly, "Those are Nabasu's" she yells, "they've got some powerful spells. Enervation, silence, vampiric touch, deeper darkness, mass hold person and can steal life just by looking at people. They already got me good, watch out!"

Nabasu, death demons, it would seem that this war was every bit as dire as the strange voice had made out if such vile creatures were already making an appearance. Still, the Diamond Crusaders would handle it as they had struggles before. "Thanks Sunna," he said in gratitude as the brawler helped drive the tiny demons away from him and informed them all of . As she moved to help support Sabrael, Denrag turned back to the pair of Nabasu facing Quake. Once more he pulled into his reserves; there was no room for holding back in this fight. Noting the damaged Nabasu and trusting Quake to finish it off, Denrag chose to weaken the other hell creature. The winds around him howled once more as he launched another blast of wind at the ugly creature, this time infused with the essence of cold iron to overcome the demons natural resistance as well as warding energies to suppress it's magical abilities.

Quake goes for the epicenter ***again

Quake is getting seriously pissed as the demon takes attack after attack with half of his attempts going wide. The creatues lash out at him and barely resists their life draining attacks.

He lets out another roar as he lets loose at the demon again. This time most of them connect and the first one drops and the second looks like it may follow.

spacer.pngSunna was correct; demons were flying to Sabrael 's side of the river; if she did not react, she would soon find herself surrounded, with her companions on the other side and unable to help.

The sorceress whispers a few words and vanishes from sight !

She then proceeds to cross the river, where she can be more helpful in the fight anyway - unless her companions manage to dispatch the party's enemies without further help of her spells.

The team takes down more demons. Faced with a difficult foe, the remaining Nabasu changes tactics and rolls away from Quake and then teleports. The keen eyed in the group notice that the demon appears near the city gates. It's eyes flare as it did before and several of the men manning the walls cry out in pain and terror as their life force is stolen. One of their souls visibly stream into the Nabasu and it seems to feel a little better about itself. The downed men immediately turn into Ghouls and start doing battle with the living on the walls.

 

 

OOC: The guardmen will be able to handle the ghouls, they are not intended to affect the battle.

 

 


 

Sunna attacks two more Quasits, killing one instantly

Denrag tries to blast a Nabasu but his shot goes wide

Quake furiously attacks the demons killing one and wounding the other

Sabrael vanished and moves 

Nabasu steps back from Quake (grants an AoO) and teleports across the field

Denrag bit back curse as the Nabasu teleported away from Quake. He had been hoping to prevent such an eventuality. Worse still, the hellspawn had teleported towards more innocents and unleashed its hellish powers upon them. Still, far as it had moved, the creature was still within his effective range. "I'll try and restrict it's use of power!" He called to the others as the winds around him howled once more. He was beginning to push himself farther than was safe, but his earlier failures had already caused the death of more people, he had to help drop this last nabasu as quickly as possible. He pulled his right hand back, a gale of wind condensing briefly before being launched forward, clearing the distance between himself and the demon with ease.

Unlike his previous attempts, this blast was devoid of cold iron or silver, but the extra effort would hopefully see it land with increased force.

Quake takes a snap at the demon as it tries to escape. He looks about noticing the demons new position. He takes off towards the creature bounding lightly as allowed with his wings. He stops just out of reach crouching ready to pounce.
