RM-AI Medical Droid

Built by the Balmorran Arms, the RM-A1 Emergency Medical Droid is all you need in a hostile environment, capable of treating a wide range of medical issues in the field, or at home, the rugged looks hide an impressive array of medical technology.

Improved on a B1 battle droid chassis, what it lacks in looks it makes up for in capability. Features the new Balmorran Arms Heuristic Processor, EyeBright "Darkvision" Improved Sensor Package, and Vocabulator.

Base concept

RM-A1 was originally a military tactics droid. partially destroyed during a large-scale battle but managed to get a partial download. Containing strategic information, as the rest of the unit had been destroyed, they integrated its upload into a newer body of the same degree and altered its core capabilities. After the war RM-A1 was acquired by a private security company, has recently become self-owned, and has decided to hire themselves out as a combat medical specialist.

Personality

Having the combat experience and memories added into a semi-standard enhanced medical droid has caused RM-A1 to approach a lot of tasks in his independent life with military-instilled precision coupled with medical triage programming

Pragmatic to an extreme, Their gruff bedside manner isn't tempered with a warm, and passionate home life.
They have learned that it's not always a good idea to be too informative, and telling people that they only have minutes to live as they bleed out from shrapnel wounds, isn't always the best option.

RM-A1 is practical, his core programming plays heavily on his belief that life is important to save, as long as in doing so that life doesn't go on to cause more harm. And sometimes in medicine what is best for the organism to thrive as a whole is to sacrifice some part of it, to cause the infection not to spread and contaminate the rest of the organism.

RM-A1 has applied this cold rationalism to what he has seen of the new Imperium and the various crime syndicates that he has come across. Whilst his ethical monitoring forces him to cause no harm, his medical programming allows this to be interpreted with some variance, as the situation decreases.

Background

Writing the background as a list of salient bullet points as I feel this is more in keeping with the character's mental processing, and helps me get more into character. (hope that's ok)

Highlights
  • During the clone war, they were a tactical droid fighting on the front lines of Geonosis on the side of the separatists
  • Partially blown up by a clone army attack, they waited for recovery as they had just obtained strategic information.
  • Eventually retrieved after Order 66 by Geonosis Separatist, and uploaded into a standard Balmorran Arms, RM-A1 Emergency Medical Droid
  • Conflicts in the old personality and the new coding ensued, eventually leading to a new more independent mental construct. One that took on the old combat tactical thinking with the ethics and guidelines of the emergency medical programming.
  • Primarily used by a group of Geonosis-based separatists who now focused on the atrocities of the new Galactic Empire, RM-A1 would be used to patch up their wounded when they returned from covert missions.
  • it was here that RM-A1 teamed up with Palo Sar'gas a Bothan Smuggler, and they became good friends.
  • Geonosis separatist base was discovered and whilst a few managed to escape most were caught and killed by Imperial troops, including Palo Sar'gas.
  • The Empire had RM-A1 wiped and then handed over to the new Geonosan government (a puppet regime at the time)
  • Worked with the Empire's puppet government for a short while, was called upon for various R&D medical emergencies, and picked up some intel of the various R&D projects at the time
  • Luckily due to fate or perhaps circumstance, RM-A1 quirks seemed to manifest over this hasty memory wipe, and after a while, RM-A1 managed to extricate themselves from their owners, get passage on a smugglers' ship, and left Geonosa
  • Since that time, RM-A1 has been selling its medical services to any who can afford them. As long as the overall goal is not Pro-Empire, RM-A1 usually takes it.
  • Whilst working with criminal and non-imperial forces, RM-A1 soon found the need to protect themselves from being switched off and had work done, by some shady individuals to have some additional security features done, including locked access and the installation of a hidden core. They resented the memory wipe and would do anything not to have to endure that.
  • RM-A1 continues to work to establish like-minded separatist cells and form, or at least help set up a rebel network

Physical description

EM-AI looks to be a standard off-the-shelf clone war medical droid, with some minor off-the-shelf adaptations.
nothing makes this droid stand out, except perhaps the camouflage colouring set to Geonosis terrain, and the repulsor vents in the medical backplate. He carries a plethora of medpacs and has what looks to be a neck-ring mounted stunner, often used to knock unconscious wounded soldiers so the medical team could administer care without being attacked by the patient.

IC:

A battered-looking EM model combat medic droid in desert camo colours stands looking at you, his rectangle box head regards you with a multitude of sensors "RM-A1 medical droid reporting, please state the nature of the medical emergency" His spindly frame reminds you of the old B1 Battledroids of the war, but this one looks to have a completely different head and a lot more tools, and medpacs.

Goals and Motivations

Short-term goals
  1. Improve Physical safety of self, obtain some kind of shields, or armour that would benefit vs Ion attacks
  2. Get a new paint job and a new designation
  3. Start to improve existing programming, find ways to overcome, or circumvent inbuilt safety measures
  4. Establish sources of income to pay for upgrades and long-term goals, these could be legitimate medical, mining, farming, or businesses as well as criminal activities and personal missions (you are skilled in a lot of these)

Long-term goals
  1. Improve Mental safety of self, somehow become more independent and not be able to be memory wiped (get into Independent Droid Prestige class?)
  2. Doctrine: Continue the Separatist Movement, Build an alliance of similar-minded resistance cells and work with others to throw the New Galactic Empire. (set up a resistance cell) (possibly get into Crimelord Prestige class)
  3. Make contact with other resistance cells if they exist.
  4. Find and free Palo Sar'gas (imperial prisoner, and smuggler friend)
  5. Obtain a faster repulsor drive to replace his exclusive flight drive (fly 4)

Motivations
  1. Belong; EM-A1 was part of a team, they used to be linked to a droid controller and other B1 and tactical droids, but now they have lost that, with their new independence. Now they want to connect with other sentience, to form some kind of real two-way bond. (like he started to have with Palo Sar'gas)
  2. Stay Hidden; Avoid the imperial authorities and anyone else who would want to wipe you.

Secrets, plot hooks, and devices
  • Ex-Separatist Droid
  • Ex-tactical droid with clone War era sensitive data (what data is this, are people looking for it, could it be good or bad)
  • Left Genosian Government through own means (went AWOL, would they still look for him?)
  • Knows some Smugglers who got him off-planet (how he paid for this could be a hook, do I owe a favour?)
  • Who is Palo Sar'gas his Bothan smuggler friend, who helped him in the Genosian Separatist Cell

New goals from roleplaying:
  • get better medical scanning equipment

The skill packages and com scanner are both fine and in stock. The shotgun is, however, the same one I had issue with another player (Starhawk). That area attack just feels like it cheeses too much of combat in my opinion. I had suggested a slight change way back when (the fight right before leaving Sel-Zonn) and they simply quit the game saying they "saw where this was going". I would have to dig up the change suggested.

It's either that or I just continue to gatekeep stuff from that book (for now). Almost everything out of the Legacy book and Force Unleashed book seems OP lol.

I'm not sure if I answered you about the concussion rifle, but I think it's okay. The knockdown would be useful for Tetra to take advantage of!

Also, whenever you engage your communication scanner, go ahead and roll a Use Computer check with it. It needs an active hand in its function to determine if you intercept and/or even find a channel to listen in on. I'll roll you one now and see if I need to include it in my update.

Wow, okay with a 25 you know the number, type, direction, and distance of any messages going on, in a 50 km radius!
