Bafatis Dynasty

Capital Region: 71 (Veehra)
Region Name: Voletha

Leader: Duke Cinra Bafatis
Diplomacy 5
Military 3
Economy 4
Faith 2
Intrigue 2

History

The Bafatis family was given control over the Voletha region since time immemorial.  The Dukes of the Bafatis family manged to keep the region together during the War of Eternal Bombardments and after that, but this have come at the price of near complete isolation.  With the dust of Veehra swirling around them, only the geography of the region made that they managed to keep an industrial base as the dust normally didn't come far into the region. This coupled with the fact that the region had enough resources to keep the factories running made that the factories could keep running.  They also managed to keep the fusion plants running and even build a few new ones, making energy abundand and cheap within the region.

In the last years, they have started to come out more, trying to contact other regions and even other planets.

Geography

The region has some hills and they form a a ring around the region with rivers starting that feed into the sea.  The hills, while not all that high, do keep the dust out of most of the region.  It's also in these hills that most of the resources are located.  The capital is near the largest river.
Near the sea the land is more flat and it's there that most of the industry is located.  A large network of trains connects the hills and the resources with the industrial sites.

People

Voletha is mostly human, but other races do exist here and all are welcome.  Due to the lower gravity the people tend to be taller than average.  They work hard, but when they are free, they like to play mind games more than physical sports.  Intellect is highly priced in the region

Government

While the Duke has the last word, during the years various Dukes have added ministeries and even a parliament to help with the day to day running of the region.  The parliament is elected by the citizens of the realm, but has only an advisory role.  The real decisions are made in the Ducal council, a group of people appointed by the Duke (normally around 10 people are in the council).  Most of these are either industrialists, ex-members of parliament or experts in their field.  One is always a priest-psionic.

Religion

The cult of the Mind.
The Mind is considered the most important thing, as for everything else the Mind can create a machine to do the work for it.  The few psionics born in Voletha will always end up as priests.  They will use their powers to help people, but also in courts and to rehabilitate criminals.  One will always be near the Duke to protect him against other mind powers.

Holy Site: the Academy of the Mind.  The location in the capital where priest-psionics are trained.

Resource/Desired Import

Resource: industrial machinery. The region is heavily industrialised, mostly with heavy industry.  This creates an abundance of heavy machinery used in other more consumer oriented industries.

Desired Import: magic talismans. The people in the region like to have talismans to protect themselves against magical forces.  However, there are only a few priest-psionics and they are not enough to satisfy the demand for magic talismans.

Tech

Nuclear Fusion and Dust Hardening

Themis Space Station (region 113)

Layout

The base started as a ring with six drydocks for building battleships, connected by a ring.  Now some of the drydocks were expanded to build fortress ships up to 5km in length and two of the six have been converted to Activated DarkMatter production facilities as these can be more easily seperated from the main base.  While the ring is mostly manufacturing and laboratories, inside the ring they build a giant sphere to house people.  When finished, it can hold about about 80 million people, but nowhere near that number live here yet.

People

Themis is colonised by Volethans.  Most are construction workers, finishing up the construction of the base as well as spaceyard workers, administrators and military staff.  Some families already live there, mostly from military personal and spaceyard workers stationed there.  As soon as more production will be started up (some products are easier constructed in zero-G, more workers and their families will move to the station. The maximum population is 80 million, but it will take years to get to this number.

Government

Currently the station is under military governance, although in a few years a civilian governor is slated to take over.  The base will have a local council to handle local affairs, and will send representatives to the ducal council as well as the parliament. It will also have local communities and they will handle local affairs, just like towns and cities in Bafatis.

Religion

The Mind is considered the most important thing, as for everything else the Mind can create a machine to do the work for it.  Some priests are on the base, mostly in the military, although a larger presence still has to be established.

Resource

Activated Dark Matter: While the base will build most ships for the Bafatis Space Navy as well as civilian ships, in its labs Bafatis scientists have created Activated DarkMatter, a form of matter that decays into regular matter releasing tremendous amounts of energy.  While its properties are not yet fully understood, it needs zero-G production facilities protected by the best armour and shields.  Two of the orginal six drydocks have been rebuild to produce this resource while scientists keep studying it.
categories: exotic matter, fuel

Desired Import

Ores and Alloys: With all the construction that is going on in the base, they always need more material to build with.  Also the creation of the activated Dark Matter requires materials to begin with.
