Briarstone East Wing

While trying to recall why the names sound familiar, Sophia steps boldly into the room. It is quickly apparent that this was the dwelling place for two children, as the Inquisitor unearths a set of wooden toy knights from the tangle of sheets. There's nothing of immediate value to the group here, however.

“Bloody” Lora, shell-shocked fighter

Description

About 5'8", Lora has long, dirty red hair that hangs in front of her eyes and her large forehead. Her nose and teeth are pronounced, and her chin is snug. Her skin is light brown. Her stomach has an obvious bulge, like she is pregnant, and a distinctive scar that runs all the way up to her sternum. She wears shiny metal armor of interlocking scales, a small metal shield, and she carries a large and curved sword in both hands. She seems very taciturn and distant, like she is in shock, or not all there, mentally.

“Baby” appears to be an aberration, a warped creature with long, spindly crab legs and the head of a human infant.

Lora shrugs and continues to the last door. She tries her best to remain on high alert, keeping her eyes and ears open and relying on the aid of the aberrant creature that follows her like a puppy. She obediently lifts Jax up.

"Brenton, wasn't he one of the kids back with Winter and the survivor camp?" she asked, pocketing the two toys.

"Maybe he wants them back?" she wondered aloud with a shrug. It wasn't the worst thing in the world to bring a brief smile to a traumatized boy's face. But who was Debis?

Regardless, nothing to dwell on. She moved on behind Lora and watched her lift the little ratfolk up again.

Briarstone Asylum

This room contains another intriguing, yet sad tableau. Within lie three bodies: two individuals wrapped in dirty yellow robes, and an elderly man easily in his eighties who lies where he fell upon the bed. Upon closer inspection (and after verifying that the coast is indeed clear), you see that the robed men have the signs of heavy, bludgeoning damage on their faces heralding the manner in which they died. As for the old man, he has no outward signs of harm, but even in death he wears a faint smile and in one withered hand he is still clutching a very sturdy and well-made leather boot. A bit of blood can be found near the heel of the footwear, and its partner lies on the floor nearby, unused.

 

OOCYou may make an Appraise or Knowledge (Local) check to identify the maker of the boots, as they are quite handsome and robust.

Lora grunts. "Looks like he fought off somethin' with his boot," she says, looking over the corpse for herself. "Must be pretty good boots. If no one else wants 'em, might be we could sell 'em."

She pries the boot out of the old man's grip and grabs its mate before proceeding.

Briarstone Asylum

Boots acquired, the party moves on. The last room barely has a working door, and upon opening it you see why: a huge portion of the ceiling has collapsed in on this room, smiting the bed and most of the surrounding area with its mighty weight.

Luckily, it seems nobody was occupying this room when the ceiling fell.

"Quiet! Everyone!" the Doctor calls out in a hushed voice, turning his head sideways, as if trying to hear something more clearly.

"Do you hear that? Something like...... dripping water..... but not...

More like a squishing sound....? Do you hear it? Sickly sound... coming from that desk up ahead.

Or......... IS the desk?!?" he says confused, aiming his rifle.

There is nothing unusual about the desk. It seems sturdy enough, though a little dusty.
