Coalscuttle

coalscuttle_28_small_by_illogictree_dd9wa8d.png.17f42cc691ddeb5e8c0114f415557f37.pngCoalscuttle Kobold Paladin 2 || Guardian Tier 1 LG AC 21 HP 23/25 Speed 20ft Str 11 (0) Dex 13 (1) Con 11 (0) Wis 10 (0) Int 9 (-1) Cha 15 (2) Attacks Dagger +3 (1d4), +1 Longsword +4 (1d6+1), Light Crossbow +4 (1d6) Mythic Power 4/5 (+1d6)

The creature takes a swing at Draco with its vicious-looking weapon, but the tiny paladin somehow interrupts the blow and bats it away with her shield. It looks confused for a second at how she'd managed the feat but its bewilderment lasts only as long as it takes for the kobold to run her weapon into its vitals.

Barely waiting for the corpse to hit the ground before stepping over it, she brings the fight to the one that just hit her dwarven friend, blade flashing in the air.

OOC

Coals takes a 5-foot step north to K14.

She attacks the Skum at J15.

She will use Sudden Block this turn to protect Ingrid if she is attacked.

Draco was glad that Coals managed to deflect the attack. But as the fight continues on, he glances around to see who needed help. With everyone engaging in combat, he starts to hum, then starts to speak, his voice thrumming with power suddenly. "Follow me. I'm standing on the border of everything..."

Undeterred by the frog man's chittering, Quim slashed again with his blade. Doing his best to avoid the teeth of the trident.

Nearby, the worg continued to nip at the heels of the frog man keeping Ingrid pressed inside the wagon.

Battle Map

Coal's blade finds it's target, as does Quim's. For that matter, Quim's pup manages to digs its teeth into the frog-man's leg and get a good hold of it. The skum tries to shake the beast loose, but by the time it pulls it's leg free the pup has already done considerable damage.

Now that there's space, Nancy takes the opportunity to get out of the horrid wagon, slipping past Draco and looping around the creatures - at a safe distance.

There, she begins another spell, gathering a dark power in her hands and hurling it at the nearest of the skum.

Actions

Move down and around - should be able to get to J17 without provoking.

Use 1 Mythic Power for Inspired Spell to cast Touch of Blindness (DC15) at the nearest skum - the one in melee with Coals, though it sounds like that one's nearly dead anyway. Thanks to Divine Reach this is a ranged touch attack, but I still take a -4 for "firing" into melee.

~ Skum Cave Entrance ~

~ Month 2, Day 9: Afternoon ~

Battle Map

DM: Nancy

I can get Nancy to K17 without provoking, and based on her speed of 30. The only way I can move her to J17 is if she provokes an AoO.

As Nancy navigates around her companions, she launches her spell at the nearby frog-man. It's eyes glaze over and turn milky white, but it turns out to be only temporary as the glaze fades quickly and it seems unaffected.

Ingrid hops down off the back of the wagon and steps behind one of the creatures. Now it had to split its attention between Ingrid and Quim's pup. She took a swing with her hammer at the one attacking Coal, but it missed.

As Vannan and Byran continued to land blows, the skum in front of the former falls to the ground, and the one in front of the latter looks to be teetering on dropping as well.

The leader watches as another of the skum falls, and a few seem close to dropping. He barks something at the rest of the group. They all take a step back, generally towards the cave, before unleashing another volley of strikes. Fortunately, few of them connect. One claw swings towards Ingrid, but Coal's shield flies up and deflects the blow, and gives Ingrid an opportunity to swing her hammer and connect. Startled, the frog-man stumbles back, surprised by the sudden and hurtful blow.

The leader seems uninterested in continuing to fight further, and while keeping its trident up it circles away from Quim towards the cave entrance. It holds a defensive position for now, calling the others over.

Another enemy swing, this time aimed at Ingrid, is deflected by the tiny paladin. The dwarf's follow-up connects, but Coals isn't interested - she's heard the guttural croak of the enemy leader.

"They are retreating!" she translates, shouting over the clamor of battle. "We need to stop them!"

Quim kept his ground even as the trident was waved about in his face. His muscles tensed as he waited for an attack, but none came. Instead, the frogman circled around him and retreated. It took Quim a moment to figure out what was happening, but when he did he adjusted. He'd been prepared for this inevitability.

With his crooked blade leading the way, he shadowed the leader toward the mouth of the cave. Knowing the destination allowed him to carve his own path though. He pressed in close and took a swipe before side-stepping around the frogman and again putting himself between it and the entrance.

When he was balanced again, he planted his feet and took another slash with his blade.

Draco joins Nancy in jogging to an open area, and like her begins to gather magic. His body thrums with power as he pulls upon his magical reserves and the other source of power within, and unleashes a pair of bolts of energy at the boss one who Quin was attacking. "Listen Close. Can you hear the spirits sing of lost messages of long ago..."

One of them was making for the caves and escape, but Ingrid wasn't in any position to stop him, not without sacrificing potential advantage in what was to come. Not while threatened by two attackers already. She pressed the attack, continuing to put her strength behind the rhythmic blows of her mace.

~ Skum Cave Entrance ~

~ Month 2, Day 9: Afternoon ~

Battle Map

Despite Coalscuttle's longsword being of a smaller size befitting a smaller wielder, it's sharpness must be clearly evident at this point, as she nearly slices one of the frog-men's arm completely through. Only the bone stopped it from being completely severed from its body.

Quim chases down the retreating skum with incredible speed and agility. His blade is a blur, and in the time it seems it would take most to strike once, Quim is able to do so twice. Both attacks draw blood, and while the creature seems strong enough, it's vigor is quickly being whittled away.

Draco's magical blasts wear down the skum Quim was attacking even further. It's wounds seem considerable.

Ingrid swings her hammer and misses, and Nancy fires her dark magic at the same skum as Ingrid and with the same result as well.

Byran's exotically spiked shield pierces the skum's neck in front of him as it drops to the ground. As he runs to help Quim intercept the fleeing foe, Vannan hops off the wagon and charges for the pair still facing off against his friends. Taking advantage of the skum's divided attention, he cuts it down with a mighty swing of his falchion.

The remaining skum near the wagons breaks after watching all of his kind be defeated by the party. He weaves around the battlefield, doing his best to stay away from the group, and makes towards the cave. Fortunately, he doesn't seem to run very fast.

The leader steps into the darkness of the cave. Unable to break from combat completely without leaving itself open to Quim, he turns to deliver a series of strikes. Quim ducks the trident, but the more feral attacks land; the claw on it's webbed hand and the sharp teeth in its frog-like mouth.

Quim

Quim takes 5 and 3 damage for 8 total.

The skum used the shadows of the cave to his advantage. Quim's attention held on the wide-reaching polearm, so he wasn't expecting claws and bites. Quim wasn't even sure how the damned frogman was even able to get in so close on him without feeling the sharp edge of his blade.

The scratches burned and were almost enough to distract him, but rage began to well up behind his eyes. He wasn't desperate -not yet- but it was a kind of urgency that pushed him to places he wasn't likely to go with a more level headed mind.

He brandished the blade out in front of his chest, daring the skum to give him an opening he could use.

~ Month 2, Day 9: Afternoon ~

Battle Map

Quim's slashes at the midsection of the skum. It raises it's trident, bringing the point towards Quim's face, but staggers and drops to one knee. It tries using the shaft of it's weapon to will itself up to its feet, but instead it collapses to the ground.

Draco starts to move towards the cave, but with just one of the creatures remaining standing and two people in the way, he just jogs to them. He didn't think he would get the chance to attack, so he instead looks over everyone to gauge how injured they were from this fight. His voices trails off as he ends his song early as he catches Quinn take a pair of hits.
