Sailors on the Starless Sea - IC

Tabitha stayed back with the larger group, afraid that she'd be killed instantly. She had brought a dagger, as it was all she had left of her poor husband. The jeweler would have to get a sling soon. Tabitha wasn't brave enough to stab these undead menaces, let alone get close to them. In fact, she decided to wedge herself into the middle of the group as best she could.

Eli was steadfast, stubborn, and some said stupid. The corn farmer was of average intellect but far too curious for his health. He'd almost lost an arm in a crazed farming accident several years back; some of the villagers still poked fun at him over the "sheep rampage" but he just laughed along with them. Why get upset? Life was too short. These were the thoughts going through his head as he raised his fork defensively. He made sure to keep that tough-looking dwarf beside him, though...

Brar gives a shout, his knocked arrow falling from his bow to clatter against the ground. Lyra frantically fumbles for her quarterstaff, struggling to unhook it from the leather loop on her backpack. She stumbles to the side, grabbing Brar’s arm and pulling him with her.

Eli let the corpse wander up toward him so he could keep his footing. That was when he launched into his attack, jabbing upward at the top half. He didn't wanna brain it, but, well, that was the weak spot in living things. Eli figured he didn't want to meet anything without a brain.

Tabitha stayed back behind part of the crowd, her dagger held defensively, her face pensive.

Seeing others start attacking the bodies, Obraun shakes his head and calls out.

Don't waste time on the bodies. Attack the vines. That is what is moving the bodies. Gwen look for the center of the plant!

With that he steps up and attacks, concentrating on cutting the vines that are animating the bodies.

Not knowing what else to do, Gwen follows orders. She moves up behind Obraun to cover his back, but starts looking around trying to see where the main "body" of the plant is.

Eli stabs his pitchfork into one of the vine-wrapped corpses and lifts it onto its toes. Obraun steps in behind the thing and chops the central vine in half with his sword. The whole construct -- vine and corpse alike -- crumples to the ground like so much compost.

Thugnar could be an apothecarist, but he was a dwarf first and foremost! No dwarf ever would yield to some vegetation - undead or not! "Take this, you piece of a green nothing!"

He retaliated with all dwarven might, hitting the vine with his cudgel.

Whether it was the bravery of others, the clumsy first attack of the vine, or the simple realization that there is no way back, but Ivor joined the fight despite shaky hands and knees. He attacked silently - all his willpower was spent on keeping his eyes open.

Hugo Harfoot

Hugo Harfoot the halfling haberdasher, inspired by the sight of the courageous Obraun in battle, races forward and swings his scissors lustily.

He is, however, quite bad at this and misses completely.

Helge Haisley

Helge Haisley the healer, cries out, "It's the Smith boys!" She doesn't think that calamine lotion is going to be sufficient this time.

The monstrosity stirs something within her. While generally a gentle creature, she understands that sometimes you need to heal by harming. She races forward with her club, trying to clock the monstrosity in the back of the head. Her timing is completely off and she swings well before arriving at her target.

Preston, the wizard's apprentice, hangs back. The idea of close combat seems to terrify him.

Seamus the Gravedigger, however, charges in. He swings his shovel like an axe at the torso of the vine horror. He strikes it hard, but the creature seems unhurt.

Happy to see his thoughts were right, he turns as Gwen calls out pointing to a large cluster of vines. He hopes she is right about that being at least one of the main clusters as he dances his way through the twisting vines and then attacks it with his sword.

Gwen spots a large cluster of vines and calls out to Obraun.

There! I think that is the base of the vines.

She then follows him in as he moves in and attacks the vines. She is not sure how effective her hammer will be, but she is not going to just stand there and watch. She slams her hammer down on the vines close to where Obraun just attacked.

"Wull hot damn on a stick! Ah didn' think that'd work! C'mon y'all keep it up!" Eli shouted out as he pulled his fork free of the corpse's....corpse. "C'mon fancy pants," he yelled at Obraun, whom was close enough to not need yelled at. "Heeyahhhh!" the farmer shouted as he stabbed again at the still-standing corpse.

Tabitha was keen to just cheer the fighters on, knowing full well she'd crumple if she were to get hurt. This was not where her story ended...

The more daring members of your party rush forward and swarm over the vine horrors, hacking at it with what tools and weapons you have. Severing the vines is the key; before the remaining vegetable/corpse creature can attack again, you've brought it down.

Helge correctly identified these bodies as the sons of one of the village smiths. Their names were Keary and Alban. They were among those who had vanished from the villiage.

A short sword and dagger are on Keary's corpse, likely forged by his father.
