artsmythe Posted March 23, 2023 Author Clone Share Posted March 23, 2023 (edited) Background: Thandeka (or "Tande" to those closest to her) was born in the tiny village of Bendakarh in the Mwangi Expanse, just northeast of the city of Senghor and far from the outskirts of the legendary Magaambya Academy. She is the oldest daughter of the healer Ashiki Heart-Strong, and she it was who was trained to follow in her mother's legendary footsteps. Thandeka is also the granddaughter of the respected Bendakarhan matriarch, Imara Farsight, who has led the villagers safely through many a bad time. Displaying a natural affinity towards herbalism and medicines, her mother and her grandmother both decided that Thandeka would learn much studying at the local Temple of the Dawnflower. There she learned not only about healing from the priestesses, but also developing more martial proficiencies with armor and the goddess' favored weapon, the scimitar. And she learned to cast spells to help her to combat the forces of darkness. After completing her formal training at the Temple, when she received her pure white vestments and ceremonial scimitar, her entire village turned out to celebrate the event. Once the week-long festivities ended (for which she was grateful), she naturally assumed that she would just return to Bendarkah to continue to guide, heal and protect her people, but her mother and grandmother again, together with the other Bendakarhan elders, had other ideas. Pooling their resources together, they submitted an application for her to attend the prestigious magic academy of Magaambya. Slightly annoyed but somewhat excited at the prospect, she did what she always does -- she obeyed the dictates of the village elders. So she packed her meager belongings into a sturdy backpack, said her goodbyes, and made her way by ship to the great city of Nantambu wherein the fabled institution rests. Thandeka had no expectations about Magaambya. She thought she would fail the entrance exam, but she would do her absolute best not to dishonor Bendakarh... or Sarenrae. Description: Much like the sunflower, Thandeka stands tall -- taller than the rest of the human women of her village. Unlike the sunflower, though, she is humble and unobtrusive, dedicated to serving the will of the goddess Sarenrae by healing and protecting her fellow villagers. Yet, while she is tall, she is not overly muscular. She does maintain a very trim and athletic figure, and her simple Spartan beauty has caused many to turn their heads around in admiration as she passes by. She keeps her hair combed and neatly plaited. She wears little make-up except for some facial tattoos around her eyes as is traditional for those of her village. Any more fussing around with her features would give people the wrong impression, suggesting arrogance or pride. She simply follows the traditional ways of dress and adornment as befits a true priestess of the Dawnflower. Despite her elevated position in the small farming community, she doesn't enjoy the limelight. Helping others is all that matters to the young woman because doing so is to follow the true path as dictated by the blessed tenets of the Church of Sarenrae. Thandeka understands about duty and responsibility. She will not lie, she will not cheat, she will not break any laws. This is way of things for her. Although she is unafraid to hunt down and extirpate the forces of evil, especially the beast god Rovagug and his followers, she is a gentle soul who studies and enjoys the wonders of the natural world around her in the jungles of the Mwangi Expanse. Summation: Thandeka is a sober pragmatist who is dedicated to her god and her people. She loves nature and baby animals. She enjoys music and singing, especially hymns glorifying Sarenrae. The priestess enjoys the company of others but is unafraid to spend quiet moments alone. She prefers civility and order. Thandeka abhors slavery, greed, deceit... and the undead. She knows that she has enjoyed many advantages in her short life, but she expects to repay family and friends twice over for their kindly belief in her by always doing her best in all matters. Cloistered Clerics gain a domain through the Domain Initiate feat. Sarenrae makes available fire, healing, sun, or truth. Also you shouldn't be expert in any skills at first level. How did you get Expert in Nature? Other than that, it's fine. Jump in to the pre-game thread any time.
