General Overview

Personality
The pursuit of wealth — whether in the form of gold, jewels, property, or other material goods — is Bróin's driving passion. Money is its own reward for him, and he aims to acquire a great deal of it. Nearly every decision he makes is made with an assessment of “What’s in this for me?”, weighing risk versus reward for maximum profit. Even still Bróin always seeks the most efficient or reasonable means of achieving his goals; he thinks through the machinations of his enemies, the implications of his decisions, and seats his ego behind what is the best choice for future profits. He is not rash, when he acts it is always decisive. He is confident he considered all the options in a situation and, after having done so, that his path is clear. Furthermore, he always keeps his options open, and always tries to have a secondary plan of action. Still where other merchants might contend themselves with the stability that the same allegiances, tasks and fortunes of their forefathers bring, Bróin follows the movement of coin and the favours of fate wherever they might take him.

Background
- Bróin was born on October 13th, TA 2788 in the settlement of Tûr Morva in Dunland. His father Bori worked as an equerry to his grandfather Borr, a wealthy and well-connected merchant in Erebor, however when Smaug attacked and seized the Lonely Mountain much of the family's wealth was lost. Escaping with his wife and family Bori journeyed with the rest of Durin's Folk in a wandering exile that would eventually seem them settling in Dunland.

- Bróin's father, grandfather and uncles served throughout the War of the Dwarves and Orcs, and at the war's conclusion returned to Dunland. King Thráin II led the Dwarves of Erebor from Dunland shortly after the war's conclusion and eventually settled them in the Blue Mountains in TA 2802; Borr and his kin, Bori and Bróin among them, helped in the founding and construction of the port township of Kheledûl, located along the banks of the river Lhûn at the base of the mountains. From there Borr rebuilt his merchant enterprise with his children, first in river trade between Lindon and the Blue Mountains before investing in overland trade into Eriador proper.

- Bori was placed in charge of this overland trade, his fondness for travel making him well-suited for such work. For over a century Bróin's father traded with the Folk of the Shire and the Men of Bree; through him Dwarven and Elven trinkets and treasures decorate the Hobbit-holes of well-to-do families in Hobbiton and the wealthier residents of Bree, while the Dwarves of the Blue Mountains enjoy Breelander wheat and Old Toby. By the reckoning of the Dwarves, Bróin was only a stripling (about 20 years old) when he left Kheledûl to follow his father and kinsmen along the trading roads, having spent the six years prior studying at the feet of the merchant Dori.

- Bróin's trading has taken him across much of the land west and south of the Misty Mountains, introducing him to all manner of people and places. Perhaps his proudest memory of these travels was when he supped in the Hornburg with King Folcwine of Rohan, an honoured guest thanks to the stock of weapons he'd brought from the Blue Mountains and Breeland for use in the campaign against the Dunlendings. While there was a certain drudgery involved with taking goods from one town, trading them for goods in the next, pocketing some coin along the way, and then moving on, Bróin has nonetheless come to favour a life beneath the sky and the open road.

- When word reached Kheledûl of Smaug's death and the reclamation of Erebor, some among the late Borr's kin wanted to return to their ancestral home, while others wished to remain in the Blue Mountains. For Bróin, a reinvigorated desire to see the world was awoken within him, and he now sees an opportunity to travel farther than even his father did. Wilderland is full of opportunities for those willing to strike a bargain, sign a contract and embark on a task others may regard as too perilous. With the roads beginning to reopen and songs being sung again of the great market of Dale, there's a fortune to be made trading goods in the markets of Wilderland, and Bróin wants to stake his claim.

- In the end Bróin, his brother Borin, cousins Tir and Hagar, and uncle Orin made the journey over Eriador and through the High Pass into the lands of Rhovanion in 2943 TA. They have spent the last seven years in various business ventures particular to their own skills and interests; Bróin work chiefly as a caravaner, buying and selling goods across the length and breadth of Wilderland. In recent years however Bróin has come into the confidence of a young Dwarf named Bofri, son of the famous Bofur, who is undertaking a grand venture; securing and repairing the Old Forest Road that divides the north and south of Mirkwood. Seeing the opportunity for profit in this venture Bróin has put his full support behind Bofri. Even now he returns from a trading mission to the Old Ford, with supplies and news that may be useful to these plans.
