Chapter One: The Lost Girl

Faelwen: The hounds are not something you recognize from nature. The wiry rust colored hair is not something found in nature that you know of.

Victor: The hounds' aura glows as evil though not as strong as your aura. But nothing else is close enough to sense.

roll vs web With a -4 penalty here since they were unaware.

The arrow plinks off of the dog's hide under the stomach narrowly missing a very damaging shot. The hounds themselves got caught up in the web thrashing against everything they had. Their blood red eyes laid on the attackers as the Pelorite strengthened his grip on the sword before moving forward to the front lines. As I'd assumed they're here for guard duty for the culmination of the rite close by I'd assume. That or they're hunting their next sacrifice..

Rewund Hudorem - Church Inquisitor

Rewund draws his mace from his belt and moves to stand in front of the lesser armored.
Attacking outright what might be someone's hunting dogs, like Ei-Leese did, was much too hasty in his opinion.
I'd be hostile as well if someone put an arrow in me.
But the decision had been made for him; he would likely have to fight these mutts.
"Let's see what these markings could mean," he says, moving closer to the entangled pack

Ei-Leese Van Damakos, Lesser Tiefling Planar Ranger

spacer.pngQUICK STATS:  AC=20, Touch=15, FF=16 / HP=32/32 / Init=4 / Saves: Fort=6, Reflex=8, Will = 5  __________________________________________________________________________

Ei-Leese stows her Great Sword and she quietly replies to Lajal saying, "Sorry, I'm unaware of your abilities so I had no idea what your skills are or that you even have the power to bind, and for that you have my apologies."

Continuing, the ranger adds, "Plus, even I'm new to this part of the forest, but in my experience silencing guard dogs is usually more important than binding them, since the bark of a watch dog is actually worse than the bite."

Li-Li then removes her dark glasses revealing to the entire party her own firey red glowing eyes which are eerily similar to the strange red eyes of the evil hounds and adds, "Besides, these canines aren't natural; I'm pretty sure can recognize my own kin!"

"However, now that they are bound, let's see if I can't calm my distant cousins down.  It's unlikely, but I can try," the Tiefling adds as she reaches into her cloak and withdraws a pair of bones for the dogs while approaching them and speaking the language of the Abyss.

The planar ranger smiles and stands non-aggressively as she tries to alter the mood of the outsider mutts starting with common commands all canines hear at one time or another in an attempt to achieve familiarity and dominance by speaking both in Infernal and Abyssal, "Stay Down!  Now, Sit! Ok, Quiet!  Shhhhhhh," she adds softly without much positive reaction.

However, the planar ranger maintains mutual 'red' eye contact with the pair of hounds as she continues the soft soothing hushing sound, "Shhhhhhh," in an attempt to change their mood while simultaneously throwing a bone with dried fresh meat still clinging at the joint to each dog and then saying, "Ok, eat."

Unfortunately, unless the pair of guard dogs can be effectively silenced, they will have to be put down, a task Ei-Leese does not relish, but also one she will execute without any hesitation whatsoever, which is why she is attempting to control them now that they are bound.

WILD EMPATHY:  A planar ranger takes no penalty on wild empathy checks made to influence magical beasts with the celestial or fiendish templates.  However, he takes a -4 penalty when using this ability against animals.

A ranger can improve the attitude of an animal. This ability functions just like a Diplomacy check to improve the attitude of a person. The ranger rolls 1d20 and adds his ranger level and his Charisma modifier to determine the wild empathy check result. The typical domestic animal has a starting attitude of indifferent, while wild animals are usually unfriendly.

To use wild empathy, the ranger and the animal must be able to study each other, which means that they must be within 30 feet of one another under normal visibility conditions. Generally, influencing an animal in this way takes 1 minute, but, as with influencing people, it might take more or less time.

Seeing as these dogs were not of the natural sort, she observed as one claimed to have bound them, and the other who seems to be a skilled ranger is hoping to calm the two. At first she found herself wanting to reach out and passify the dogs, but if they are tainted with evil, then hopefully them being bound will at least keep them from attacking. Although now, she is more cautious about her surroundings, wondering if the they had been noticed yet.

Lajal Dothel Barok

HP: 28/28| AC:14 | Init: +3

"No no, Effendi, it is I who should apologize, I did not mean to be so rude, or quick to comment. Your speed and accuracy, we will come to depend upon, I am in no doubt." Lajal seems utterly distraught that he offended Ei-Leese, and bows his head.

"I am well versed in many esoteric arts, you could think of me as a summoner and wizard, or perhaps a druid. My skills are at your service"

When Ei-Leese reveals her eyes, Lajal seems not to even notice, but when she talks to the creatures he seems impressed, standing back to admire her work.

The hound she hit with an arrow growled at her before releasing a breath of fire at the web causing it to burn. Stepping forward the hound that she nearly wounded stared at the party ready to attack at any moment. It's red eyes glared at them as the hair bristled on it's back seemingly unharmed by the fire. Meanwhile the other hound smelled the meat and started chomping on it happily before looking at the bone. It picked it up before biting hard enough to crack it in one bite. Satisfied the hound backed off and just watched the other one as well as the group before turning around to walk off. Whether it was alerting the rest of the group of kidnappers or not was yet to be found out. It disappeared into the thickets to the west leaving its growling partner to take care of the party.

Ei-Leese whispers, "I can't likely keep it quiet for long, unless it takes the bone. If not, then the decision is made."

Taking a chance, the Tiefling smiles at the canine revealing her fang-like teeth as the planar ranger reaches into the residual fire letting the flames lick about her hand and, without flinching, slowly withdraws the bone and holds it out with her undamaged hand to the still simmering hound!

"Ugnn," she grunts out in Infernal, not so much a word but more of an ancient guttural sound symbolizing a giving or an offering, while holding out the meaty bone. The outcome in the next few moments will determine the course of events thereafter.

Mirowyn had been distracted by the Brotherhood, and had missed the initial commotion with the infernal dogs. Finally coming to notice the scene before her, she focused herself on the situation. One of the canines appeared to at least be interested in the Tiefling's attempts to calm it, while the other was taking a much more feral approach. That made things easier, she knew which one to target. She took a deep breath as she drew her Longsword. She then shouted over her shoulder, "Ware the dogs, guard our backs!"

She then closed her eyes and let her mind briefly enter a separate place. She peered with her mind's eye through the astral seeking the seed that was the infernal canine's mind. Once she found it, it was as if a soft thud impacted from the canine's mind. Whether it worked or not, she glared eye to eye with the devilish creature, and very firmly commanded, "Sit."

The hound ran up to the unarmored and unarmed Faelwen before sinking it's teeth into the poor girl's arm without warning. Hot flames licked the bite wound but luckily Faelwen managed to pull back to where only the barest of flesh from her arm was actually bitten. I've never seen a denizen of Hell that could be reasoned with without some major sacrifices along the way. I'm surprised that you managed to lure that other one away. He said before pulling out his sword and drawing closer himself. Putting enough distance between him and the rust colored hound that it couldn't attack in one burst. Or so he thought.

spacer.pngQUICK STATS:  AC=20, Touch=15, FF=16 / HP=32/32 / Init=4 / Saves: Fort=6, Reflex=8, Will = 5  __________________________________________________________________________

Ei-Leese frowns when the devil dog bites the attractive Druid of the group, causing the Planar Ranger says, "Big mistake!"

After immediately dropping the bone to the ground, the Tiefling draws her massive Great Sword in literally the flash of an eye.

Feeling both regret at her failure and remorse for her response, Li-Li brings the huge razor-sharp blade down hard upon the attacking canine.
