About This Game

The Milky Way after SECCOM is a dangerous place, as ThirdCom tries to reestablish ties to lost colonies. Out on the frontiers, rebels, pirates, and corporations constantly battle it out while the Union tries to bring peace and prosperity back to their far-flung descendants. To accomplish this several Union organizations banded together to create a special paramilitary Lancer unit: The Peregrine Syndicate. Operating completely autonomously to give them the tactical flexibility of a pirate squad, but dedicated to bringing peace and safety back to the frontier states, the Peregrine Syndicate (or PERSYN) sends its Syndis out on dangerous missions to combat pirates, fight back corporate control, and bring colonies back into the fold. You are the first PERSYN unit ever created. With narrow access to resources your job is to prove that PERSYN will work and can bring peace back to the Frontier. It's a daunting task but you were picked because you seemed to have the grit, the courage, and the dedication to do it. Can you prove the Union right?

Detailed Description

This is a hybrid PbP/Voice Chat Discord game made for the Lancer system, and a return to Gming for yours truly.

The above is the basic set up of the game. You are a member of PERSYN, the Peregrine Syndicate, a paramilitary organization founded by members of Union seeking to bring the prosperity promised by ThirdCom back to the lost frontier colonies. Your goal is fighting pirates, leashing out of control corporations, and reestablishing contact with lost worlds.

The downside is that PERSYN doesn't have very much official support just yet, but if you prove yourselves on the frontier by completing missions then hopefully that support will grow.

CLOSING DATE: The Ad will close on November 1st, 2023. On that day I will make final character and player selections. People not selected may be called on later to fill any positions lost over time, so don't throw out your characters!

Game Structure: THIS IS A HYBRID GAME. This means the game will not be played solely on the play-by-post forum, it will be played on Play-by-Post as well as over discord voice chat, and Roll20. As such, the abilities to use discord voice and Roll20 chat are a requirement.

  • The Briefing, Preparation, Missions, and Debriefs will occur on voice chat. As Lancer has a complex combat system that relies on specific measurements, its easiest to handle missions in real-time. Discord will be used for voice chat, and Roll20 will be used to handle the battle mat.
  • Downtime will be played on the Myth-Weavers forums. This allows for more free role-playing during downtime and the free-form/narrative portions of the game.
  • In-Universe mission summaries, documents characters receive, and other paraphernalia will be posted on the Myth-Weavers forums. This gives us a convenient, central location to access everything, as well as a record for missions.
  • There will be a mission every 2 weeks, on Fridays between 6 and 8pm MST. The specific Fridays will be selected once players are chosen. Scheduling conflicts happen, especially around holidays, so some flexibility will be required. However, in general I expect players to try and accommodate the 2 week rotations.
    • This means any between-mission downtime MUST be completed in those two weeks! This is a very big, very important point. You must maintain at least enough posting regularity to complete your downtime before missions so that you have any reserves or upgrades prepared narratively by the next mission.

Application requirements:

Your character application should include all of the following:

Name: Your character's name.
Background: The background you've chosen or created for your character (custom backgrounds are allowed, within reason).
Biography: A brief, in-universe biography of your character, such as might be seen on a dossier in the PERSYN files. It should include a general description of your pilot, the name of the system and planet (or ship, or space station) your pilot is from, any living family members or close contacts, and why your character chose to join PERSYN.
Psychology: A brief psychological overview written in an in-universe style. This shouldn't be more than a paragraph long. It should not list myers-briggs personality types or specific mental illnesses. It should include descriptions of how you envision your pilot approaching high-stress situations, personality traits that may cause conflict or concern in the mission, and ways in which your character excels as a mech pilot.

License Levels: Your initial license level is 0 until the game starts. As always, you start with a license for all General Massive Systems gear, and one license for the GMS-SP1-Everest frame.
Pilot Combat Stats: This will always be (until the game begins): HP 6, Size 1/2, Evasion 10, E-Defense 10, Speed 4
Triggers: The four +2 triggers from your Background.
Mech Skills: Your one +2 Mech Skill, or your two +1 Mech skills.
Talents: Your three Rank 1 talents.

Mech Statblock: A name and a stat-block for your mech's basic load-out. This may change as the game progresses, but it gives me an idea what kind of combat role you'd like your mech to fill (at least initially).

Lines and Veils: A list of Lines and Veils for you as a player. This may be put in a private tag so only I and moderators can read it, if you aren't comfortable openly sharing (though I would encourage you to share them openly). If you do this, when the game is started I will anonymously list your Lines and Veils alongside everyone elses in the master list so that all players are aware of them.

  • A LINE is content that absolutely, under no circumstances, can come up in the game.
  • A VEIL is content that might come up in the game, but will be handled "off-screen" or fade-to-black.
  • When choosing Lines and Veils, keep in mind that a good deal of content already has to be veiled due to Myth-Weavers code of conduct (such as explicit sexual acts, hard drug use, torture, ultra-violence, etc.) That said, I would encourage you to list those things anyways if they are particularly sensitive for you, just so all of our players are on the same page.

  1. What's new in this game
  2. Turns out thinking of what to post isn't posting. My Fate game is next Friday, and I doubt we wanna hit this Friday, so next good time for me is 2/2.
  3. Sorry, I unexpectedly gained an underling, which sucked up all my at work posting time for a bit. Getting back to normal now. Fridays are still probably the best for me as well.
  4. Jason takes advantage of the break between to read and sim-up on the new frame model he was able to get a license for, in preparation for the next op. When he sees the distraught scene outside the hospital a week later he looks sympathetic and remains quiet to honor what the group is going through. When he arrives in the dungeon for Ashe's "explanation" he is visibly taken aback by the modified Genghis, having not really paid much attention to the work Ashe was doing on it in light of everything else going on. He listens with rapt attention to Ashe's explanation and quietly offers a simple sympathetic "I'm sorry for you loss" in the pause.
  5. January - No issues with any Friday. My Saturdays continue to be quite packed. I have a small window around noon where I could theoretically squeeze in a game, but Friday remains much easier for me. Will respond to the thread shortly.
  6. Hello, folks! There is a thread that's been posted a while, just wanted to see how everyone is doing? It's been holidays so I haven't wanted to push anyone about games or the like, but I'd like to get started back into a routine soon! So if possible, I'd like to know everyone's weekend schedules (fridays and saturdays) for January!
  7. Clyde congratulated you on your return. He told you he was still working on something at Ras Shamra, but would have more work soon. Enjoy your break while it lasts, he said. The prep work for this next mission would be tough. Ashe has been in the hospital for three days with Nino. Jekyll has come out a few times to tell you it would not be long before Ashe would rejoin you. Prima never leaves the hospital room. It seems like she doesn't even sleep, instead standing guard over Nino like a statue of Venus. It is on the seventh day that Ashe finally emerges. Their face is streaked with tears. Their hair is a mess. They somehow look older. Prima refused to leave the room, but howling sobs can be heard from inside. Jekyll tries to hug Ashe, but Ashe stops them. "No. No, not now." They mutter hoarsely. "Business first. The Lancers are finally owed some explanations Clyde couldn't give them." Ashe tells all of you to meet then down in the Dungeon on the following day. The dungeon is quieter today. The printers are not running. Ashe is wearing black and accompanied by Jekyll and Prima. Prima has an elaborate funerary veil on and is sitting with one legged crossed over the other, looking away from Ashe and Jekyll. Jekyll always wears black, so he looks no different aside from removing his bowler hat. Ashe is standing in front of the World Killer. It has changed since last you saw it. The rough plates are now intricately carved, depicting in relief harrowing scenes of violence from the conquest of Hercynia. Where normally a Genghis would mount weapons, metal sculptures of human corpses have been placed. The image is so disorienting, it takes some time for you to realize you are not looking at a weapon of war, but a weapon of art. As you come down, Ashe starts speaking. "I was sixty five when I met Nino. I looked and felt 23, but that's what near light travel does. Unsticks you in time. Nino was likely much older. They werr a mercenary on the long rim. A run away from the hospital they grew up in. Rescued Prima from the pirates who took them in. Prima's casket had been locked away, she was near to cascading when they found her. Two have been inseparable since. But when I met them, I was a revolutionary. I was sent off Sanjak for medical care, but could never find my way back. So I fought for the Ungratefuls in the Dawnline shore. That's where I met Nino and Clyde. But I always knew Nino would die young. I hoped my nephew could get them care, maybe find a cure. But it was too late."
  8. Getting through the blockade was trouble, but simple enough. The landing was far more harrowing. No one died, though, so overall a mission success. Sanjaki forces were able to secure the LZ after the Lancers held out for a harrowing length of time. Retrieving Nino was simple enough. Getting access to a Karrakin hospital intended only for Nobles proved suspiciously easy with the aid of a decorated Karrakin Cavalier named Asher McFadden-Pine, Ashe McFadden's apparently estranged nephew. He lead them to a hospital room, guarded by two sword wielding strangers. One named Jekyll, dressed as a Victorian gentleman with a handlebar moustache and mutton chops, and another apparently named Prima Donna, or "Auntie Prima" as Jekyll keeps calling her. Nino, the person you were sent to retrieve, was nearly comatose when you arrived. Little more than skin and bones, barely able to focus, you got them on a ship back to the Peregrine's Nest. When you landed, Ashe, Jekyll, and Prima all took Nino to a hospital on the base. You haven't seen any of them since...
  9. "I think I can swing something, I'm not sure if you're aware but union doesn't use currency internally but they still trade with Karakis. I'm sure a shipment of materiel or maybe some mana can get him a 'special assignment' near Sanjack." He smiles and begins walking away but turns and gestures for her to follow. "Care to join me? Truth be told I know nothing about any of our ragtag little group and wouldn't mind making a new friend."
  10. Ashe nods. "Okay. Thank you. That... means a lot." Standing, Ashe taps some dataplating on their wrist, then moves over to a table. They take the dataplate watch off and set it down, as it projects several images of mechs, vehicles, and ships. "You're heading straight into the maw of the House of Stone's blockade. There's not really any hiding from it, fact is you'll have to fight your way through. HoS forces likely won't try to kill the soldiers you're escorting. More likely, they're interested in capturing them and ransoming them back to their families if they're from any sort of Karrakin affiliated household. That said, they won't hesitate to slaughter you and blame Union for invading their space afterwards. "So with that said? Make sure you're packing EVA suites on all your mechs. Moving through 0G is a bastard and a half if you're not. Second, HoS is absolutely going to follow you to the surface of Sanjak. You don't blockade a planet just by keeping ships out, they raid Sanjak regularly to keep the population scared. That said, Ungrateful forces will likely try to secure your LZ once they realize HoS is after you. They do not take kindly to house forces on their turf. "As for what you'll be up against? You're small enough that they can't really engage you with the bigger ships. Likely they'll stick some seeders or interceptor ships after you. Typical HoS forces usually include Bombards, Archers, Cataphracts, Ronins, and Scourers. In short, you'll want to be able to tangle in close quarters, and have some way of eliminating the ranged enemies quickly. I also expect at least one ship to engage you with some sort of short-cycle heavy weapon. So being able to move, and quickly, will be vital." OOC RESERVE: Pre-knowledge of the Enemy Load Out. Once I have the encounter fully set up, I'll post the enemy types for each OpFor you'll be facing (some have already been mentioned) giving you a chance to build your mechs to be able to properly counter them. Also, you now know that at least one mission will be under the Microgravity effect, so you'll want to make sure you have EVA suites to be able to maneuver effectively.
  11. "Alright. I'll make sure that Nino gets here safely." Jason says with a nod after spending a few seconds considering everything Ashe has said.
  12. Salarra's pride in her brother turns to surprise as Amani makes his request. "To be honest, I'd feel a lot better if he were coming along as well, but he's just shipped out on assignment. I don't think I mentioned it before, but he's a pilot in the Union navy." She gathers her thoughts for a moment. "He is pretty committed to his post, but if you can persuade him to join up with us, I'd be more than fine with it."
  13. Ashbird watches Grey for a little while, then taps something on the order console. A subaltern server comes over with a drink shortly after, setting it down in front of Grey. "I like the way you think. Did a bit of research on you myself. Was not able to find much... almost like someone important didn't want you found. But I found just enough to know you're on the level, so I'll tell you what." Ashbird sets the drugbowl aside and leans back, eyes critically examining Grey. "I may be a smuggler, but I'm also an Ungrateful. If you're trying to help Sanjak, then I don't need money. I can't get you all the way planet side, not with an entire contingent of soldiers, but I can get you into the system completely undetected, and I can mask your signature so that no one knows your group is Union sponsored. There's a lot of eyes on Sanjak, watching it as a foretelling of how the Dawnline Shore is going to play out. A lot of the same players involved, after all. Once you get to the planetary blockade, though, the help I can offer you is limited. However, there is one thing I can do." Ashbird pulls out a dataplating, and taps something on it sending up a holographic display. On it is a round drone, with several large guns protruding from it. "Turret drones. I'll give you two blink grenades. Activate them and one of these will blink to your location. It's weird Harrison Armory tech that I managed to come across at some point, don't worry about where or how. We good?" OOC RESERVE: Ashbird's Turrets As a quick action, you can throw a blink grenade to a target within sensors and line of sight. When you do, a Turret Drone will immediately appear in that space, and operates as per the Turret Drone system.
  14. "Well you know the solution to Stone's disapproval?" Grey leans forward, a feint at a conspiratorial whisper, though she's yell-talking to be heard over the music, "...don't get caught." She leans back again, arms laying along the top of the booth, faking ease she is only kind of feeling. Hoping bluster works as well here to keep her out of local social faux pas. "It's against my religion to refuse the offer of free intoxicants, bring it on. But yeah, it's odd. The org I'm working for is probably going to be more odd jobs than milk runs. But from what I've been able to dig up, I think we'd make good business partners..."
  15. "That airstrike, from our first mission? That was amazing! I was worried that infantry was going to start climbing on Khan and rip me out of my cockpit. You said that was your brother? I didn't know someone could fly suborbital craft with that level of precision, let alone how well he aimed those munitions. I was serious when I made my offer, I want to contract him if he's available, we're going to need all the help we can get once we land on Sanjack. It didn't feel right contacting him without your permission." Amani seems excited recounting the excitement of their first mission, but there is some reservation as he asks his question.
  16. "Amani! It's good to see you. I'm on my lunch break right now - studying up on first aid for our next mission - but I can talk." She puts down her coursework and turns to face Amani.
  17. Ashbird languidly looks up at Grey, and nods. "So, I'm guessing you're the one who put out the request. An odd one, at that. Smuggling soldiers through... Stone won't like it if we get caught, could cause problems along the Dawnline shore. Definitely a risky one." She says, sniffing from the bowl again. "Sit, let's talk. Do you drink? It's on me."
  18. Grey sighs. This place is so familiar but so alien. Back home she would hack the sound system, adjust things to her own liking. Here, she doesn't have the clout. At least, not yet. Instead Grey queries the system, downloading the track. Queues it to the control system in her head that handles her ware, gives it a tweak so her ears...the microcomputer between her ears and her brain, that is, recognizes it as a threat, like a flashbang or a jackhammer. Instantly the noise dulls, though the echoes of it still seep through like poison toffee. And she can still feel it, in her chest, in her heart, the larger-than-life beat that demands allegiance. Filtering like this makes hearing iffy, but really no more than trying to talk over the music. There's Ashbird. Grey doesn't order a drink yet. Maybe this would be over quick. She stalks over and wordlessly slides into the booth. Grey's done a little homework. Ashbird is quasi-military, and Grey mirrors that. Grey on grey camo, industrial bland. Nothing distinctive, nothing close to any military anyone here has likely seen, intentionally so, stripped to the essential tropes. Bulky looking, but thin enough to not be hot in the Human Medium Climate of the station. The kind of jacket that hides a multitude of sins. "Ashbird."
  19. "I can't do it, because I cannot go back into Karrakin space. I'm a wanted criminal there. I do not trust normal transport to get them out, and my two friends... well, let's just say they're perfectly capable of piloting ships, sure, but for everyone's sake it's probably better they didn't. Also... Nino is not well. They are very, very sick. And they are very important to me. I want someone trustworthy to bring them back. Please. It is my only price on the information I give you." Ashe says, looking at Jason pleadingly.
  20. Jason pays careful attention to the picture, doing his best to memories the face of the person that is apparently named Nino. After a few moments thought he nods. "Swing by the KTB and pick 'em up? I'm reasonably confident I can convince the team to manage that, yeah. Anything specific that makes this a job we need to run rather than something a normal transport can handle?" he asks, trying to make sure he understands the ask before completely agreeing to it. OOC Is this functionally going to end up as something similar to the last power at a price, with something related to this ask becoming the next op, or is it just something that would happen between the end of this op and the next one? Just trying to understand.
  21. "I need you to find someone when you're done on Sanjak, and... no, I'll tell you why later." Ashe says. They produce a small picture from a breast pocket. It's gold creased and worn. In it is a picture of a younger Ashe kissing another person, only a scant few inches taller than them, with dark wolf-cut hair, sleepy eyes, and wearing a fishnet shirt with a binder. In the picture the two are flanked by a tall Victorian looking gentleman with a bowler hat, mutton chops, a dueling scar and a robust handlebar moustache. Opposite him, a tall blonde woman wearing a half face mask with kaleidoscope eyes and a dress that would leave Beyonce jealous. Ashe points to their partner. "That is Nino. As far as I know, this is the only picture that exists of them not from a corporate bounty board. I left them on a planet in the KTB a while ago, for medical care. My... two friends with them contacted me and told me...well it doesn't matter, but it's time Nino came home. When you are done on Sanjak, I need you to get them. Can you do that?"
  22. "Alright. What do you need?" Jason asks simply, doing his best to keep his face relatively expressionless while a combination of anger at what's going on and worry about the scope of the mission fight it out in his head.
  23. "Hey! hello!" Amani lightly jogs towards Salarra outside of the education center. "Sorry for intruding, I hope you're not busy. I wanted to talk to you about our last mission...If you have the time of course." Judging from the dust around the cuffs of his pants and the fact that he's slightly out of breath, he either sprinted there or has been searching for Salarra for some time. He smiles as he speaks in between his words and panting.
  24. Ashe nods and taps their chest. "I was smuggled out on a medical transport after the incident that left me burned. I spent an objective 20 years, subjective 2 weeks in an ice box getting slow boated to Cradle. I was unconscious the entire time." Finishing their cigarette, Ashe tosses it down and stomps it out. "And I know I was not the only Ungrateful to escape. Where I eventually found myself, there were a handful dozen of us in the Revolutionary forces. Even had our own foreign corps. "But let me make something absolutely clear: if they suspect that something is up, that Hornets nest you are flying into is going to get really, really bad. So be careful when you get out there." Ashe leans back, gazing up at their mech thoughtfully. "There is one other thing I can tell you. And maybe it will be useful in blowing past the blockade, I don't know. I just need a favour.
  25. Jason takes the offered seat with a nod of thanks. "Alright. Sanjak. Been blockaded for quite some time as I understand it. Way too long to be reasonable frankly, but I don't pretend to understand the kind of people running that. Obviously some people have found ways around it, no way it's had a perfect record for this long. You ever hear of anyone successfully running the blockade? Anything that worked before? Might make a decent starting point even if they'd be ready for an exact copy of the tactic now." he asks with a shrug. OOC Sounds good.
