Nothing upsets the perfect plan like the dice.

Ambush, advantage, awesome set up, roll a 1. Or hit and roll minimum damage!

Such is the price of the dice!

Then again, sometimes a fools gambit pays off cos the dice love a reckless fool, until they don't.

 

As for daggers on a barbarian, it is not something I have seen before. The maths is not good, but if it is for aesthetic reasons, then go for it.

Maul gives you 2d6+3+2 the turn you rage, and every turn after. Critical gives you 4d6, but you either hit or miss

Daggers (assuming you have bought drawn as you can only draw one a turn) gives you 2 attack rolls, doing 1d4+3+2 for the turn you rage.
Second round gets a little better with first doing 1d4+3+2, but the second attack only gets 1d4+2.

 

At level 5 (assuming you up your Str)

Maul gives you 2 2d6+4+2 attacks

Daggers give you 2 1d4+4+2, and 1 1d4+2 damage

 

If you took Dual Wielder instead

Maul gives you 2 2d6+3+2 attacks

You could take 2 longswords instead give you 2 1d8+3+2, and 1 1d8+2 damage

On the plus side, I think Ander's attack killed the Goblin Boss! Still with two gobos left alive though. And us with a bunch of wounds.
