We don't have rations to spare, but I will throw in your choice of two of the potions or poultices with a tent, tools and materials, a quiver and half a dozen arrows for all of that." As she spoke she stood back up and turned to look down at the group from her spot in the wagon. The Vistani had spread out a little bit as the negotiation continued, keeping a close eye on the woods and the road. It is easy to notice that a fair number of glances are thrown your way as well. Whether they agreed with what Madame Kotorara was doing wasn't apparent, but it was obvious that they were still quite suspicious of your group's intentions. One may even wonder if they had been jumped in similar circumstances before. The woods are quiet and the sun has passed it's peak behind the grey clouds overhead. She took the group's items and started finding places in the wagon for them. The flask of holy water is placed carefully in the box the potions came out of. The party gathers themselves and begins moving west along the roads. The rest of the day passes fairly quietly except for conversations among the group. More than once, you find piles of charred and ashen corpse burn piles. Topping a small rise as the sun begins to dip below the tops of the endless forest, your eyes can follow the thin cut of the road down into the valley, only to then be lost in a forest of a different type. Miles of bare wooden poles were planted in the ground, ghastly posts adorned with putrid rotten corpses. The road appears to split at this horrific change in terrain, branches running left to the south by southwest or right to the north. Dark carrion birds circle in fading light, and just beyond the forest of spikes you can see the watch fires beginning to be lit along the walls of the great city of Lekar, last fasthold of the living in this land of the shambling dead. Faint smells of fires, metal, rot and refuse are carried out on the wind. Suddenly, those sharpest eyed amongst the group spot some movement among the forest of corpses. A quartet of horses, each with a red and silver armor rider, was moving at a casual pace towards the true forest. They give no indication of having spotted the group yet and there are ample places nearby that would be easy to hide in. Alternately, one might attempt to either run down to the split before the riders get there, or even cutting a path through the woods to intercept the left-hand road that Falken assures will lead around to the road that leads south to Silbervas. Time is running out on the options ahead of you, should you wish to avoid the obvious Talons approaching. OOC Because of the lead time and amount of stuff at hand to hide with off the side of the road, any stealth checks to attempt to hide in the woods (for whatever reasone) can be made with advantage. Without missing a beat, he starts moving West, as previously agreed. He turns to Karlov: "You talked about Stangengrad possibly having people needing aid. I commend you on your willingness to help people, but, unfortunately, right now we need to aid ourselves. I don't know much about Stangengrad, but there used to be many Talons there. Not my first choice of destination. I suggest we keep going to Silbevas." As the corpes on spikes come into view, Falken gets visibly sad. He pauses for a few seconds, taking a deep breath, then resumes the walk. "This... this is the penalty for any crimes, in case you're wondering..." The arrival of the riders causes him to tense up, and he quickly signals the others to hide in the forest. "Talons!", he warns. For a moment, he considers getting rid of them in order to get horses, but quickly asserts that the odds are not good. "Horses would be great, but I'm not sure we can take 4 Talons..." He replies reluctantly to Falken, "I guess if there's a strong military presence there then they're likely to be fine... I took the impression they'd been abandoned from the vista but you know this land better than I. I don't wish to argue about conscription, for I will follow only Kelemvors will. It would be a needless waste of living bodies." He looks over the impaled bodies. "It seems that the Talons do not share my concerns. Death is not to be feared, but it should not be chased after in this land. Perhaps that is why the mists grow strong, fed by blood and evil deed." he growls. "If you are sure we could not have horses hen we will avoid them," Karlov replies, attempting his best to follow the group into hiding. He was not used to such hiding, and it was not his strong point. It showed, as he struggled through the thickets with his scale armour and shield. Perhaps after some time with the group he could persuade a more direct approach to their problems. Hiding did not stop the encroachment of evil, nor save you from the dark... Looking back, he winced as he saw all to clearly the path of broken branches he had left through the undergrowth. When negotiations finish, Set offers the retreating Visani a cordial smile. Internally, however, he's making note (which he will later make physically) of all the little tidbits revealed by them and his companions over the last brief while. While he has to sort the detritus from the important bits in the process, knowledge is a valuable thing- especially when it comes to people's motivations. His own, he likes to think, are relatively simple. So simple in fact, that when Falken reveals the 'punishment' for crimes- including refusal to be conscripted- he has to force the blood not to drain from his already pale face. "Yes, well, as much as I'm sure the Talons have only the best of people's interests at heart..." He doesn't, and the frank acidity in his voice says as much. "I won't be attempting to test that theory either." Following suit with the others, he ducks into the woods, hoping none of the soldiers have the ability to see through the trees better from their higher vantage point on horseback.
